Chapter 344 Henry and William's Celebration Banquet
A week later, Alexander and Samantha returned to their homeland. Alexander first took her to the hospital for a comprehensive examination, which revealed no major issues. He then escorted her back to Sinclair Villa and summoned Bernice and Leah to return as well.
Seeing the bruises still on Samantha's face, Leah exclaimed, "Mom, what happened to you?"
Bernice frowned and asked, "Mom, were you robbed abroad?"
Samantha lay in bed, reluctant to speak about the incident, and said to Bernice, "Book an appointment for me at the beauty salon. I'll go tomorrow."
Alexander said, "Bernice, stay home for a couple of days and keep Mom company."
"Okay," Bernice agreed readily.
After arranging everything for Samantha, Alexander returned home, and Lillian, seeing him back suddenly, happily jumped into his arms and playfully hit him. "Weren't you supposed to come back tomorrow?"
"I wanted to surprise you," Alexander said, kissing her gently on the nose. "Where are Henry and William?" he asked.
"They're sleeping," Lillian got off him, followed him upstairs, and helped him take off his coat while asking, "What exactly happened to mom?"
Alexander loosened his tie and threw it aside, saying, "Amy hired a hitman to kidnap Mom."
"What?" Lillian's eyes widened in shock. "Kidnap? Isn't she sick? How could she plan a kidnapping?"
Alexander let out a cold laugh. "A mentally ill person, not a fool, can resort to extreme actions."
Lillian asked, "Is mom hurt?"
"Just some superficial wounds, she'll recover slowly," he said, "She was also brutally tormented; Amy's actions were quite ruthless."
Lillian gasped, "Fortunately, Mom is safe and sound now. She must be furious, right? Won't she seek retribution against Amy upon her return?"
"After this incident, Amy's condition seems to have worsened; she doesn't even recognize me," Alexander said, "Although Amy's condition has worsened, my mom never admits her mistakes. I didn't want my mom to bear too much guilt, so I told Jared to get Amy the best treatment. Honey, will you be mad at me for doing this?"
"Who's Jared?" Lillian asked.
"Amy's friend abroad; he's been taking good care of her," Alexander replied.
Lillian said sympathetically, "How could I be angry? It was your mother's fault, and since she won't acknowledge it, it's up to you, as her son, to make amends. Although she has hurt me before, ever since I learned about her plight and illness, my anger has subsided. It's not that I'm overly compassionate; it's just that I genuinely find her pitiable, even more so than me."
Alexander hugged her. "Honey, I'm relieved that you think this way. I only see Amy as a friend now, nothing more. I just feel I should make it up to her out of guilt."
Lillian patted his back and teased, "Do you think I'm an unreasonable woman?"
"I know, you've always been understanding," Alexander said flatteringly.
"Honey, let's take the kids to see your mother tonight," Lillian suggested.
"Good idea. She kept talking about wanting to see the kids while we were abroad. I suggested a video call, but she didn't want you to see her face." Alexander nodded and said.
"Will she be upset if we see her without informing her tonight?" Lillian asked.
"No; with the kids around, she won't be angry," Alexander replied with a smile.
In mid-November, it was time for the celebration party for Henry and William. Alexander only invited close family and friends.
Ethan came alone; Beatrice was pregnant, making it inconvenient for her to go out. More importantly, she wanted to avoid any potential conflict with Samantha at this special moment.
"Beatrice couldn't make it, so she sent this gift for the kids," Ethan handed the gift box to Alexander.
"Thank Beatrice for me," Alexander accepted it calmly and handed it to someone nearby.
"Talk to your mother about our divorce, and persuade her not to drag it out any longer," Ethan said, even on such days, never forgetting to discuss his matters with Alexander.
Alexander took Henry from Heather's arms and soothed him, saying, "My mom is so stubborn; she won't listen to me. You should talk to her yourself."
Ethan looked disappointed that Alexander wouldn't help him. Just as he was about to say something, Justin and Linda arrived.
Samantha quickly went over to greet them and helped Linda to the sofa, while Alexander walked over and handed Henry to Linda. Patricia also came over and gently placed William in Justin's arms.
Seeing this scene, Ethan felt awkward and out of place.
After greeting Justin and Linda, Lillian went to the side room to chat with Wendy and Angela.
"I have some good news for you," Lillian said excitedly to them.
"What good news?" they asked in unison.
Lillian said with a smug look, "I got a job!"
"You found a job?" Angela asked, "Does Alexander know?"
Wendy asked, "What kind of job?"
Lillian smiled. "An editor from Imaginarium Ink commissioned me, and I successfully signed a contract."
"Sounds good" Angela nodded, "You can do something you like freely." She then looked at Wendy and asked, "Has that douchebag been bothering you lately?"
Douchebag naturally referred to Amos. The three of them no longer called him by his name, using "douchebag" instead.
Wendy shook her head and said, "He hasn't been coming to the studio much lately. I heard Ms. Phillips and the director talking the other day, saying he's been busy with some project, seems quite diligent."
"As long as he's not giving you trouble," Angela stated. "I don't concern myself with his and Evelyn's affairs, but if he ever harms you, I won't stand by idly. A private detective has been keeping an eye on him recently, and he has been behaving well. I dismissed the detective a couple of days ago; after all, it's not our business to meddle in."
Lillian said, "Yes, their business is none of our concern. Our priority is to protect Wendy."
Feeling touched, Wendy held their hands and said, "You are so good to me."
Angela glanced ahead and saw Caspian looking their way, teasing, "Any progress with Caspian lately?"
Wendy sighed, "It's still the same as before. Sometimes I hint at him, but I don't know if he doesn't get it or is pretending not to. He just laughs it off, making me feel quite awkward." She couldn't help but glance back, her eyes landing on Caspian before turning back and asking suddenly, "Perhaps I should confess to him; what do you all think?"
