Chapter 235 Beatrice and Blake's Bad Idea
Beatrice asked, "Where'd you get the parrot?"
Blake replied, "John from the Jenkins family gave it to me. He loves gardening and birds. I visited him, saw him with the parrot, and he gave me two."
Beatrice said, "He does love those things. As long as the parrot's healthy..."
Blake said, "The parrot's really smart. I keep it in my office and teach it to talk. It's already learned 'Happy Birthday' and 'Double the Luck.'"
"Really? Does it speak well? I'll visit your office to see it," Beatrice said, a small smile breaking her serious face.
She added, "We can't just use the parrot to make your grandpa happy; it would seem insincere. He loves antiques. I'm planning to give him that precious antique I have."
"Mom, you love that antique, and are you giving it away?" Blake teased.
Beatrice sighed. "You're not as capable as Alexander. It's also my fault for not getting your dad to divorce and marry me. If these things can secure our future in the Sinclair family, it's worth it."
"Dad said he was going to divorce Samantha, right? We just have to wait," Blake said, trying to comfort her.
Beatrice replied, "We can't wait that long. Your grandparents are healthy. As long as they're around, we can forget about moving into Sinclair Villa."
Nico had been silent, watching their scheming. She sneered inwardly, 'After all these years, they hadn't replaced Samantha. Was it really just because of the grandparents? No, it was because Alexander was formidable!'
"There's something else," Blake said, glancing at Nico. "I'm having Shae come to work at the branch office as my secretary tomorrow."
"Shae?" Beatrice asked. "Amy's cousin? Why is she going to be your secretary?"
Nico's face changed, and she asked, "Isn't she pursuing Alexander? I heard she was his secretary. Why is she coming to the branch office now?"
Blake said, "Alexander fired her. You saw his announcement, right? He said he had no ties with the Anderson family. Shae is ambitious and looked for a job but couldn't find one she liked. I needed a secretary, so I brought her in."
Nico asked sarcastically, "Do you two keep in touch often? How do you know so much?"
"No," Blake said guiltily. "A friend asked me to help her find a job, so I did them a favor."
"Alexander fired her, and you're giving her a job at the branch office? Isn't that a real insult to him?" Nico frowned. "And why make her your secretary? Aren't there other positions?"
Beatrice spoke up, "Nico, what did Blake do wrong for you to be so aggressive?"
"Mom, I'm just curious, no other reason," Nico explained.
Beatrice asked Blake, "You must have a plan for making her your secretary, right? Tell us."
"Mom, you get me," Blake said. "Bringing Shae in gives us an extra hand. Shae is Amy's cousin, which is useful. If we promise Shae some benefits, she'll cooperate with us."
"Shae wants to be with Alexander. Can you help her with that?" Nico asked coolly.
Blake glared at Nico and continued to Beatrice, "Mom, Alexander is sentimental. He won't forget Amy just because he's married. He lashed out at the Anderson family because Shae went too far. Once he calms down, we can have Shae approach him again. If she's my secretary and I take her to the main office, Alexander can't avoid her."
Beatrice thought for a while. "You have a point. If Shae cooperates, we should use her connection to Amy. Alexander felt guilty about the car accident, and Amy was closest to Shae. Out of old feelings, he won't be ruthless. It's worth a try."
She added reluctantly, "It's a pity we failed to make Lillian miscarry this time. Let's put that on hold to avoid suspicion. First, let's secure Shae's cooperation."
Blake said, "Mom, speaking of Shae, I still think of her as that girl from back then. But she really resembles Amy today."
Beatrice looked at him and said, "Resembles Amy? When you talk to her about cooperation, see if she's willing to get some cosmetic adjustments. If she tweaks her appearance and mimics Amy's style and makeup, Alexander might be moved."
"Mom, that's a great idea!" Blake said with a smile. "If we use this well, making Alexander fall for her won't be hard."
Nico watched Blake's smug smile, feeling uneasy. She instinctively felt that he wanted to have sex with Shae rather than use her against Alexander.
She glared at Blake, her hand on her bump slowly clenching into a fist.
A week later, Oscar was discharged from the hospital. Emily and Kelly were packing up in the room, Melvin was handling the discharge paperwork, and Alexander was discussing the condition with the doctor.
"Oscar's heart surgery needs to be done soon. It's lucky his heart condition wasn't triggered this time," the doctor told Alexander. "The wound is healing well. Change the dressing every three days. There shouldn't be any major issues."
Alexander shook the doctor's hand and thanked him, "Thank you for your hard work."
"If you don't want me to work hard, then don't come back," the doctor joked. "Oscar's body is too weak to handle such stress. It's best to do the heart surgery early and not delay it."
Alexander nodded. "I understand."
The group left the hospital and got into the car. Kevin had brought a spacious van. Emily helped Oscar into the car and sat next to him.
"Oscar, do you want some water?" She asked.
"No, thanks," Oscar asked Alexander. "Alexander, are we going to pick up Lillian now?"
"We'll take you home first, then I'll go pick her up," Alexander replied, glancing back at Emily. "Emily, thank you for taking care of Oscar this week. Once you're home, get some good rest."
"I'm fine. No need to thank me," Emily said with a smile.
The car drove back to the neighborhood, dropping Emily off at her home first. Before getting out, she reminded Oscar to take care of his health.
"Why are you so nagging?" Oscar said impatiently, pretending to push her. "Go home and catch up on sleep. Look at those dark circles under your eyes."
After that, they went home. After helping Oscar to his room, Alexander instructed Kelly to prepare a generous gift for the Roberts family to show their gratitude. Then, he drove off to pick up Lillian.
