Chapter 137 A Pair of Frenemies
Michael was equally surprised and smiled, saying, "Ms. Hill, what a coincidence."
Lillian stood up and walked towards him, saying, "It's a nice day, so I came out with my family."
Michael glanced behind her and said, "I had some free time today, so I brought my sister out to play."
Lillian looked at the girl, smiled slightly, and said, "Go ahead, and I'll be on my way."
After she left, Emily Roberts asked Michael, "Who is she?"
"She's a secretary from a partner company," Michael replied, then asked, "Aren't your two good friends here yet?"
"I just posted on Facebook. They said they're on their way." Emily sat down and spread all the food she brought on the mat.
Michael doted on Emily, his only sister. Although he had a packed schedule today, Emily convinced him to picnic with her.
"Michael, they're here, but they went to the wrong spot. I'll go get them," Emily said, putting down the snacks.
"Go ahead," Michael said, looking down at his phone, not paying much attention.
After finishing a card game with Melvin Kelly, Lillian took out her bento upon realizing it was afternoon.
"I wonder where Oscar took Luke to play," Lillian looked around and then said to Kelly, "Let's eat first."
Melvin lay on one side, listening to an audiobook on his phone, and said, "You two go ahead. I'm not hungry yet."
"Don't mind him. He always spoils the fun when he comes out," Kelly said, opening the lid of the bento box.
Lillian said, "Melvin just played cards with us. He didn't spoil anything."
"Lillian is the sensible one," Melvin said with a chuckle, turning over.
Kelly sighed. "It would be great if Alexander were here. Every early spring, he would take us out for a picnic. This year, he didn't mention it, so I didn't ask."
Lillian scratched her head and asked pitifully, "Kelly, are you blaming me for not asking Alexander?"
"There you go, overthinking again," Kelly said with a helpless smile, "You said Alexander is busy, so we shouldn't bother him. When things slow down,, he'll definitely take us out."
Lillian squinted and smiled, then fed a piece of fruit to Kelly.
Suddenly, Luke came running back quickly, shouting, "Oscar is fighting with someone!"
"What?" Lillian and Kelly asked in shock.
Melvin quickly sat up and asked, "Where is Oscar? Take me to him!"
With a tearful face, Luke said, "He's right behind me. They're coming this way."
As soon as he finished speaking, they heard arguing not far away. Oscar was surrounded by three girls, arguing as they walked. People around them stopped and watched with amusement.
"What's going on?" Lillian stood up angrily and walked towards them.
Oscar and the others came closer, and Emily said aggressively, "You need to apologize to us and pay for our coffee!"
"I did nothing wrong. Why should I apologize?" Oscar said in a steady voice, "You were careless while walking and spilled coffee on me. You should compensate me for the dry cleaning!"
Lillian saw Emily and asked, "Ms. Roberts, don't argue."
Emily asked, "Do you know him? He knocked over our coffee, making our clothes dirty, and he doesn't feel guilty or apologize!"
Oscar said to Lillian, "Lillian, don't get involved in this. You take Luke over there to play. I'll handle it."
After saying that, he grabbed Emily's wrist and angrily said, "Fine, do you want me to apologize? I'll find a place to apologize to you!"
"What are you doing? Let go of me!" Emily screamed in fear, seeing his dark expression. "Michael, save me!"
Michael was on the phone with his back to them and did not notice. He turned, ended the conversation, and ran when he heard Emily's cries for help.
"What happened?" Michael glared at Oscar, pushing his hand away, and angrily asked, "What are you doing? Don't you dare touch Emily!"
"Michael," Lillian interjected, "Oscar is my brother. It seems they had a bit of a misunderstanding."
Michael had been focused on Emily and only now noticed Lillian beside him. Surprised, he asked, "Your brother?"
"Yes! I'm her biological brother!" Oscar said unhappily, "Is this an unreasonable person, your sister?"
"You're the unreasonable one. Clearly, it's your fault," Emily shouted with her hands on her hips.
"Emily!" Michael called her in displeasure, then turned to Lillian. "Let's sit down and talk this over."
They all went over to Michael's side. Lillian approached Kelly and Melvin, saying, "It's nothing serious, just a little misunderstanding. Don't worry."
Luke grimaced and glared at Emily. "That Miss is really annoying!"
"Don't say that." Lillian put her finger on his lips. "You and Kelly sit here and have something to eat. Oscar and I will be back soon."
As Lillian approached, she heard Michael saying with a smile, "You're all grown up now. A little bump isn't a big deal. No need to keep arguing."
"Michael, he bumped into us, spilling our coffee," Emily said unhappily.
Oscar said, "I was flying a kite, and you walked backward into me. How is that my fault?"
Lillian felt they were naive. "Emily, are you in college, right? Oscar, you're a boy, be magnanimous and apologize. It's not a big deal."
Michael smiled and said, "No need to apologize. Just shake hands and make up."
Oscar and Emily turned away, refusing to look at each other.
Lillian and Michael exchanged helpless smiles.
"Since neither of them is willing to give in, let's leave it at that. We're heading back," Lillian said to Michael.
"Alright." Michael nodded with a smile.
Lillian asked with concern, "Oscar, arguing with Emily just now, are you okay?"
Oscar reassured her. "I'm fine. I wasn't really angry. It's over now. Don't talk about it."
Kelly called out to Oscar, "You've been playing for so long. You must be hungry. Come and eat."
Meanwhile, Michael said to Emily, "You need to behave yourself. Everywhere you go, you cause trouble. Can't you stay out of it?"
As her brother, Michael knew exactly what Emily was like. He didn't need to ask to know she was being unreasonable today.
"Michael!" Emily said unhappily, "How can you blame me?"
Emily's good friend said to her, "Emily, he seems to be the president of our school's literature club."
