Chapter 101 Who Will Go?

Isolde was freaking out. She couldn't let Diana take any risks, especially since she was pregnant.

Plus, Diana must've left quite an impression on Finnian during their last drinking session.

So Isolde spoke up, "No way, this isn't your problem. As Cecil's mom, I should go first. I can't just sit back and watch him use my kid to threaten me."

Seeing the argument going nowhere, Robert cut in, "I'll go instead."

Diana shot him a look. "You're the last person who should go. Finnian said no cops, and you look like one right now. A random guy showing up at his door would just set him off."

Now it was a three-way argument.

Grace, who was nearby, struggled to tap the floor with her cane. "I'll go!"

The three of them stopped and turned to look at Grace.

Isolde was the first to react, forcing a smile. "This has even less to do with you, and you don't even know what's going on. Just stay out of it."

Robert whispered from the side, "She loves to meddle."

"What do you mean? Think I'm too old? Useless? Just tell me what's going on." Grace, feeling stifled, raised her cane to hit Robert, but he dodged nimbly.

Diana, deep in thought, felt this might be a good idea. However, Grace was old, and her safety had to be ensured. "We're here for something important."

"Tell me about it. Don't underestimate me because of my age. I used to be in the military." Grace sat in a chair, her tone revealing pride.

Isolde wanted to refuse again but was interrupted by Diana, "Robert, explain it to her. I think this plan is good. I'll contact the cop outside. If we're going to rescue Cecil, we need to be cautious."

Although the three were at odds, Diana was always reliable, so Isolde and Robert agreed after some discussion.

Robert began explaining to Grace, while Diana dialed the number for Officer Jasper Anderson.

This kidnapping case was taken very seriously by the police due to the large amount involved.

However, they were also afraid of alerting the suspect, so they only parked their cars outside the village and quietly entered.

They were currently surveying the area, considering how to proceed with the capture.

The hostage in this case was too young to cooperate with the police.

When Diana reported the case today, a few officers thought it was a joke.

Typically, such a kidnapping case would require a special task force to outwit the kidnappers.

But Diana directly showed them the evidence chain, even providing photos of the suspect. All they had to do was capture him, making it quite time-saving and efficient.

Diana dialed the phone. "Hello, Mr. Anderson, we have found a villager willing to cooperate with us in the capture. Do you have any plans to ensure her safety while apprehending the suspect?"

At this moment, Jasper and a group of officers were hiding in a vegetable field outside, troubled by how to approach Finnian's house.

His house was particularly secluded, with a standalone building surrounded by a wall.

The wall was at least 6 feet high, and upon closer inspection, there was an infrared monitor at the entrance. Sneaking in would be difficult.

The only entrance was a double iron gate.

The top of the gate faced the second floor of the house. If someone climbed up, it would definitely alert Finnian.

Jasper was scratching his head, and Diana's call couldn't have come at a better time. "Ms. Spencer, you said a villager is willing to help us out? Where are you? I'll be right there."

But when Jasper showed up and saw the "villager" was an elderly woman, he frowned. "This? Ms. Spencer, it's best not to involve unrelated people in this."

Diana crossed her arms and stared him down. "Then, Mr. Anderson, do you have a better plan right now?"

Jasper hesitated, fumbling for words. "We'll come up with something..."

Before he could finish, Isolde cut him off, "All you do is wait. What's the point of having you cops? My son is in his hands right now. Do you know how much money he wants? Are you going to help me gather that money?"

Robert had to pull Isolde back to keep her from charging forward.

The young officer next to Jasper got serious. "Ma'am, you're insulting us. If this happened earlier, why didn't you report it sooner?"

"You!" Isolde was about to lose it, her mind entirely on Cecil, with no patience for these officers.

Diana held Isolde's shoulder and shook her head, signaling her not to act impulsively.

Isolde turned away, no longer looking at them, but staring at Finnian's house in the distance.

Grace, who had been quiet, finally spoke up, "Listen to me. Finnian is not a good person, and the kid is still in his hands. What's the use of arguing here?"

Grace, after hearing Robert's explanation, realized the situation was complicated.

Seeing the others still bickering, Grace tapped the floor with her cane and continued, "I'm a villager and an old woman; he won't be wary of me. I'll go to the gate to distract him, and you can climb in from the backyard."

Everyone was stunned, looking at each other. This was indeed the best plan so far.

Diana's admiration for Grace grew; she truly had the courage of a veteran.

Jasper, stroking his chin, hesitated. "It sounds like a good idea. Are you still agile? We'll do our best to protect you."

Grace, hearing this, threw away her cane, took a few steps, and walked steadily. "The cane is for clearing obstacles; my legs are fine. Do you want me to run a few steps to show you?"

Everyone waved their hands. "No need."

Isolde felt deeply grateful to her, a stranger willing to go to such lengths for her.

With a decoy to distract Finnian, the plan became very simple.

Grace would go in first, find an excuse to lure Finnian to the door.

If he was not vigilant, the officers hiding in the dark could directly take him down.

This would be the ideal situation, a happy ending if successful.

But if Finnian was vigilant, the officers would have to climb the wall while his attention was on Grace and act accordingly.

Jasper remotely directed the officers outside to set up an ambush, surrounding the house quietly.

They repeatedly reminded Grace not to confront Finnian. She only needed to lure him out, and the rest would be handled by them.

Grace seemed much calmer than they were, thinking she was just being helpful, not going to her death.

After speaking, Grace bent down, picked up her cane, and walked with a shaky gait, looking as if a gust of wind could knock her over.

Her act was so convincing that even they felt she looked weak.
