Chapter 513 Run

Charles groaned twice, his head resting in the crook of Diana's shoulder, his breathing rapid and heavy.

"Get out! Go now!"

He gritted his teeth against the pain and pulled Diana out from under him, desperately pushing her away.

"No way, I'm taking you with me. Get up! Come on, we can make it!"

Diana shook her head, frantically trying to pull Charles up, but he had been shot in the leg and his tall frame was now a burden.

"Don't save me, just go!"

Charles's voice was harsh, his eyes bloodshot, looking as fierce as if he could devour someone.

He didn't want to be a burden to her; this life was a debt he owed her.

"Get out of here! Do you hear me? That's an order."

Tears streamed uncontrollably down Diana's face as she clung to Charles's arm, trying to drag him out.

"Our agreement isn't over yet. You can't die!"

"Five years ago, I couldn't save you, and I've regretted it ever since. Diana, it was my fault. I'm sorry. I love you. I'm really sorry."

He rambled apologies, his hands prying Diana's fingers away.

"Please, just go. I'm begging you. Live. If I die, you'll be free. That's the freedom you wanted."

"Shut up!"

Diana slapped him hard across the face, not understanding why he was being so melodramatic at a time like this.

"Your life belongs to me. Even if you die, it has to be by my hand. You bullied me for so long, why should you get to die so easily? Five years ago, you couldn't save me because you were useless! But I'm not like you. I can keep you alive! Get up!"

She had a firm belief that Charles couldn't die, not here, not now.

When she pulled her hand back, she realized it was wet. Charles had started crying too, at some point.

Finally, he stopped resisting and, with Diana's help, slowly stood up.

The factory was collapsing, and amidst the thick smoke, Diana had to crouch low, dragging him along with difficulty.

Metal parts and wooden beams were falling everywhere. Suddenly, a burning plank crashed down from the ceiling, hitting Charles squarely.

The strength he had to run was gone, and he fell heavily to the ground, taking Diana down with him.

She quickly pushed the plank away and grabbed Charles's arm, dragging him out. His forehead had a gruesome gash, blood obscuring half his face.

"Hang in there. I won't let you die!"

Diana panted, each step feeling like walking on knives.

The smoke was numbing her will, and she was carrying a 6'2" Charles.

She never imagined she could muster such strength to drag Charles out.

Gradually, she lost her strength, her vision blurred, her throat dry and burning, feeling like she was being roasted alive.

"Help, someone help us."

The next second, the world spun, and Diana fell to the ground with Charles, darkness enveloping them.

-

Three days later, in a VIP hospital room.

Diana lay in bed, her brows furrowed, seemingly trapped in a nightmare.

"I don't want to die... I don't want to die!"

Her voice grew louder, waking Benjamin who had been dozing off nearby.

His eyes lit up, and he hurriedly shook Diana's arm.

"Mommy! Mommy! Are you awake? Please wake up!"

Finally, under his hopeful gaze, Diana slowly opened her eyes.

The first thing she saw was the white ceiling, then Benjamin's face leaning over.

"Mommy, how are you? Are you okay? I already called the doctor. They'll be here soon."

Diana's eyes moved, wanting to speak but finding her throat painfully sore and dry.

"Water."

She managed to say, and Benjamin understood, quickly grabbing a cup and inserting a straw.

"Here, Mommy, drink some water."

The warm water soothed her throat, easing the pain.

Diana spat out the straw and asked, "Benjamin, how are you? Are you okay?"

Benjamin nodded, his eyes red.

"I'm fine, but you've been asleep for three days. I was so scared."

"And Charles?"

Diana asked, her voice tinged with urgency she didn't even notice.

Benjamin closed his mouth, stood up, and tried to change the subject.

"Mommy, Dean is here too. You'll see him soon!"

"How is Charles?"

Diana pressed, her brow furrowing.

"I'll go check why the doctor isn't here yet."

Benjamin said, trying to run off.

Diana, desperate, sat up, causing the needle in her hand to bleed back.

"Benjamin! Are you trying to drive me crazy?"

Benjamin stopped, his small body trembling, fists clenched tightly.

After a moment, he turned around, tears streaming down his face.

"Mr. Percy is still in the ICU. He's not out of danger yet. The doctor said he might... he might..."

"Might what..."

Diana swallowed, pressing for an answer.

"Might never wake up."

Benjamin said, then broke into sobs, throwing himself beside Diana, crying uncontrollably.

"Mommy, I'm so scared. Mr. Percy can be a bit annoying, but I don't want him to die. He's my dad."

He openly spoke of Charles's identity, and Diana didn't have the heart to scold him.

If it were the old Charles, his death would have made Diana happy enough to throw a party.

But now, hearing he was critically ill, her chest tightened, her eyes reddening.

She patted Benjamin's back, comforting him.

"He'll be okay. Your dad is tough. He'll be fine."

In the past, when investigating him, he had been kidnapped many times but always managed to escape. This time would be no different.

As mother and son were lost in their sorrow, there was a knock at the door. The next second, Dean entered, carrying food.

"Sophia? You're awake!"

His eyes widened in surprise, then he smiled with relief.

"You're finally awake. You have no idea how scared I was! This place is cursed; nothing good ever happens here."

Seeing Dean, Diana felt a bit dazed, calling his name to confirm it was really him before relaxing.

"When did you get here?"

"The day after your accident. I flew in overnight."

Dean said, setting out the food.

"You must be hungry. The doctor said you're mostly fine, just some minor injuries and smoke inhalation. Here, eat something."

As he arranged the food, he chatted.

"Do you know what happened when Benjamin sent the location? The whole alliance nearly went crazy, but I managed to calm them down and came to get you."

"Luckily, you and Benjamin are okay. Once you're discharged, we'll head back to the alliance. Everyone misses you."

Hearing this, Diana put down her spoon and looked up slowly.

"Dean, I want to wait a bit longer."
