Chapter 242 Provocation
Diana's expression remained neutral as she offered a nonchalant nod.
She didn't care who Charles was with. All she wanted was to go home and rest.
But her indifference infuriated Charles.
Holding back his anger, he spoke again, his voice icy, "Stay with me tonight as my date."
His words left everyone around them stunned.
There were a lot of people at the Homestead Sunset Valley event tonight, and being Charles' date would definitely put Diana in the spotlight.
Charles' actions made it unmistakably clear to everyone that Diana was his.
But they were already divorced. Was there a chance they could get back together?
Billy was the first to speak up, "Isn't this lady your date? Why are you all over Diana?"
Charles let out a cold laugh, clenching his fists. The next second, Chloe gasped as Charles' punch landed squarely on Billy's face.
"Charles! What the hell are you doing?" The scene unfolded too quickly. Diana shouted in anger and rushed to help Billy up.
Charles' punch was strong, and even though Billy managed to turn his head in time, his lip was still bleeding.
Billy covered his face, spitting out blood-tinged saliva.
With so many people around and on the Richardson family's turf, Charles could afford to be reckless, but Billy couldn't retaliate. He could only respond coldly, "Mr. Percy, forcing things never works. Can't you see Diana doesn't want to be with you?"
Diana stood by his side, clutching his arm. Ignoring the injury, they looked like a perfect couple.
Seeing them together made Charles' expression darken. A sharp glint flashed in his eyes as he spoke in a menacing tone, "Diana, come here!"
"Why should I? So you can hit me too? Why do you always hurt innocent people?" Diana glared back at him, showing no sign of backing down.
"When have I ever hit you?"
Seeing her side with someone else, Charles couldn't hold back his anger any longer. He swung his fist again, this time hitting a nearby pillar.
Diana pressed her lips together, her tone turning scornful. He hadn't hit her, but he had nearly strangled her before.
To spare him some dignity, she retorted, "Do you think that means anything?"
"Ms. Spencer, watch your words!" Nolan, who had been listening in shock, quickly intervened.
Sensing the misunderstanding deepen, he couldn't help but explain, "Mr. Percy had planned to bring you to this event. You weren't home today and came with someone else, which made him angry. And now you're siding with another man."
The implication was clear: any man would be upset.
Diana listened carefully and immediately found a flaw in his argument. "You said he planned it. Did he inform me in advance?"
Nolan hesitated, "Well..."
He couldn't refute her because there had been no prior notice. Previous times had been the same, and now that Diana was living at the Percy Mansion, who knew she would go out?
"Mr. Smith, your mistake at work isn't my fault!" Diana's voice was icy, her imposing presence mirroring Charles'.
Claire, unable to hold back, spoke up, "Ms. Spencer, isn't that too harsh on Mr. Smith? Besides, you're Mr. Percy's woman." Her voice rose, pointing at Diana.
She wasn't really concerned about Nolan but wanted to escalate the situation.
As expected, Diana rolled her eyes without hesitation, "None of your business. I'm not anyone's woman!"
Whoever wanted to be with Charles could go ahead. If not for the circumstances, she would have killed him.
As soon as she finished speaking, Charles' long-suppressed anger erupted. "Enough!"
When Eugene had said those things earlier, Charles hadn't thought it was that serious.
But now, he couldn't find a trace of affection from Diana, only noticing her and Billy sharing a connection.
With his chest tight and his eyes red, Charles was on the verge of exploding.
Nolan quickly stood up and tried to hold him back, shouting at Diana, "Ms. Spencer, I admit I made a mistake. But Mr. Percy truly cares about you. You..."
Before he could finish, Charles shoved him aside.
Diana felt a cold wind rush towards her, and the next second, Charles grabbed her arm.
Billy quickly grabbed her other hand, his expression anxious, "Charles, what are you doing?"
Caught in the middle, Diana felt like her arms were about to be dislocated as neither man would let go.
Charles's voice was full of threat, "Let go! Billy, do you want to ruin Vance's birthday party?"
As soon as he finished speaking, Diana yanked her hand free from Billy's grip, her tone resolute, "Enough, I'll go with you. Stop troubling innocent people!"
"Innocent people?" Charles repeated her words, holding her tightly, and let out a cold laugh.
She couldn't even protect herself, yet she was still defending another man. Impressive.
Billy, in pain, wanted to intervene again but was stopped by a sharp slap from Diana.
The crisp sound echoed in the night, and Billy's hand instantly turned red.
"I told you to leave. This is my business! Stay out of it!" Diana's tone was fierce, unclear if directed at Billy or Charles.
Billy bit his lip, his eyes filled with grievance.
He didn't blame Diana but himself for not being strong enough.
In this situation, he couldn't even protect the woman he loved.
The tension between the three grew, and Nolan quickly ushered away the onlookers.
Claire and Chloe were pushed inside before they could react, feeling anxious but blocked by Nolan, unable to see anything.
"Diana, I..." Billy tried to say more.
The next second, Charles provocatively lifted Diana's chin and kissed her, ignoring her struggle.
Diana groaned, her back against Charles' chest, her hands pinned in front of her.
Her neck was awkwardly twisted as her head was pushed back, making the kiss extremely uncomfortable.
Moreover, with Billy watching, she felt embarrassed and wanted to escape.
To provoke Billy, the sound of their kiss was exaggerated, and Charles' eyes were filled with a fierce challenge as he stared at Billy.
But he couldn't maintain it for long. Diana bit down hard, the taste of blood filling their mouths.
Charles frowned slightly, looking down at Diana's flushed face.
He finally let her go, giving her a chance to breathe.
But the desire within him burned even hotter. He yearned for Diana now.
