Chapter 473 Familiar
"We did it! We really did it!" Cheers erupted from the crowd. Their two years of hard work had finally paid off.
It was the intern, usually overlooked, who had saved them!
At this moment, the intern let out a long sigh of relief as he watched the code running smoothly on his screen and saw the control room quickly returning to normal.
The expressions on the faces of the team lead and Frank were not great, but Isolde looked genuinely surprised.
"How did you do it?"
The team lead shoved the intern aside and stared at the scrolling code on the screen, unable to believe that the intern had done this.
He was just a guy with connections, and everyone knew his skill level. How could he have stopped a hacker attack?
"Isn't this the basic firewall code running on the computers outside the hall?"
A staff member standing nearby also focused on the code and quickly identified its origin.
"Yeah, I tweaked a few connection points in the basic code and updated the firewall system. This way, it can quickly detect the hacker's attack path and counterattack their system, catching them off guard."
The intern explained while recalling what Benjamin had just said, "Why didn't we think of that?"
Someone in the crowd, not noticing the team lead's changing expression, slapped their forehead and praised repeatedly.
"I didn't expect you to be so skilled! You thought of this! It shows you have a deep understanding of the basic code."
"Actually, it's not my credit." The intern, embarrassed by the praise, rubbed his nose and instinctively turned to look at Frank.
At his side, Benjamin was smiling, showing a set of small white teeth, and waving at him.
His colleagues followed his gaze and thought he was complimenting the boss, teasing him, "Don't be modest! If it weren't for you, the hackers might have already invaded our database and stolen all our data."
The more the team lead listened, the worse his face looked.
He stared at the running code on the screen, feeling his face burn with embarrassment.
Benjamin, hands in his pockets, also didn't hold back his praise for the intern, "Mr. Bailey, your employee is really impressive. What's that saying? You can't judge a book by its cover."
Isolde, amused by his mature demeanor, turned to Frank and said, "Mr. Bailey, I think this little guy has a point. Your company indeed has many hidden talents. Our collaboration should go smoothly."
Frank, who had been wondering if he had underestimated others, immediately changed his expression and smiled upon hearing Isolde's words,
"Of course, Ms. Porter, I've always looked forward to working with you."
Despite the commotion, the collaboration was still successful.
Frank's anger had also subsided quite a bit.
"Little guy, who taught you to say those things? You look familiar."
Isolde suddenly wanted to chat with Benjamin, so she squatted down to be at eye level with him.
Benjamin liked straightforward people, so he found Isolde very approachable and replied,
"My mommy taught me. My mommy is the smartest person in the world."
"Wow, your mommy is amazing. I'd love to meet her someday."
Isolde didn't take his childish words seriously but still praised him.
"Frank!"
As they were chatting, a loud call came from behind.
Frank's eyebrow twitched, and the anger he had just suppressed flared up again.
He turned to see Eugene running over, out of breath, looking nothing like a vice president.
Eugene had gone downstairs to meet some clients, only to find Benjamin missing when he returned.
In that moment, he even thought about where Charles might bury him.
But fortunately, someone saw Frank take the child, so he rushed over to ensure Benjamin's safety.
"Frank! Where's the kid?"
Eugene grabbed Frank's arm and looked around, finally seeing Benjamin, who was blocked by Frank.
As for Isolde, who was squatting, he didn't notice her at all.
"Are you okay? Any problems?"
Eugene checked Benjamin from head to toe, making sure he was unharmed before heaving a sigh of relief.
He turned to complain to Frank, "Frank, can you stop taking my people without permission? You scared me to death! I almost called the police. If Charles knew I lost the kid, he'd kill me!"
Frank, mindful of the outsiders present, held back his temper and said in a low voice, "He asked you to watch the kid, and where did you go? If I didn't take him, would he be alone in the office? And your department cost the company so much money, and today it was almost hacked. Aren't you ashamed? Is this how you manage your team?"
Eugene wanted to argue at first, but after hearing the whole thing, his face changed, and he turned to look at the control room.
The people in the control room greeted him politely, but their eyes were evasive.
"What happened? What's going on?"
Eugene strode over, and the team lead, with vacant eyes, couldn't escape a scolding.
"Ms. Porter, I'm sorry you had to see this. Let's step outside; it's too noisy here."
After scolding his brother, Frank wanted to quickly leave with Isolde to avoid ruining the newly secured collaboration. But Isolde stood still, her eyes on Benjamin, and suddenly asked,
"Is this the Percy family's child?"
Frank and Benjamin both looked at her in confusion. After a moment, Frank replied, "Yes, my brother and Mr. Percy are good friends. Our families are close, so we're just helping to watch the child."
He emphasized "good friends," hinting at leveraging the Percy family's reputation.
Upon getting confirmation, Isolde's mind went blank.
Frank might not understand the Percy family's internal affairs, but Isolde did.
Besides Charles, the Percy family only had his brother Zachary. And recently, Zachary's death was announced at a press conference.
So this child was either Zachary's or Charles's.
No wonder! No wonder she found him familiar. After figuring it out, the more Isolde looked at Benjamin, the more he resembled Charles.
Following this line of thought, something still felt off.
Zachary and Charles didn't get along. Even if Zachary had died, the child should be with Elise, not Charles. Why would Charles be taking care of him?
And the child looked old enough to be in kindergarten...
"Auntie, are you okay?"
Benjamin tilted his head, interrupting Isolde's thoughts.
Isolde snapped back to reality, forced a smile, and replied, "Nothing, no wonder you looked familiar. You're the Percy family's child."
Then she asked, "How old are you? I have a son who's already in elementary school."
"Miss, I'm almost five."
Benjamin replied obediently.
