Chapter 319 Ship Tour
Charles' eyes flickered, somewhat surprised that she would refuse him.
Worried that she might be upset, he softened his tone considerably.
"Hey, some of your friends might be on the ship. We'll be sailing for three days and nights, and if we're lucky, we might even spot some dolphins."
And the third day was Christmas. If everything went smoothly, they'd spend the holiday at sea, which could be a romantic memory.
He kept that last thought to himself, waiting for Diana to decide on her own.
Diana lowered her lashes, absentmindedly picking at her nails. "Do you really want me to go?"
Charles didn't answer directly. Instead, he said gently, "You should get out and relax."
"Can I move around freely?" Diana asked.
She had already achieved her goal, but to carry out her plan, she needed to be clear on the details.
As expected, Charles fell silent at her question.
After a moment of thought, he replied, "There are a lot of people on the ship. It would be safer if you stayed close to me."
Diana responded calmly, "If you're worried I'll try to escape, you can bring someone else along."
Her tone was so composed that it made Charles uneasy. Her compliance was almost frightening.
He frowned and changed his approach. "You can move around freely, but you must stay within my sight. If you can't do that, we won't go."
Diana fell silent. Just as Charles thought she would refuse, she said, "Okay."
With that, Charles no longer doubted her willingness to go. He even started having Nolan prepare an engagement gift for Billy.
His strongest rival in love was getting engaged; it was only proper to send something.
A week later, the day of the cruise arrived.
The official boarding time was ten in the morning, but guests began arriving earlier, making the ship lively.
At the dock's parking lot, a Maybach smoothly parked. The driver opened the doors for Charles and Diana, helping them out.
Diana, still a bit sleepy, was jolted awake by the cold sea breeze. The chill was biting.
As the cold air hit her nose, she couldn't help but sneeze.
Suddenly, she felt a weight on her shoulders—a coat.
"It's cold. Put on the coat before going up," Charles' steady voice came from above.
Diana glanced at the suit jacket and, unlike before, didn't refuse outright. She simply said, "Thanks."
Nolan had already sent their luggage to the ship and came down to escort Charles and Diana. Ten minutes later, they boarded the ship.
Diana's room was next to Charles'. To prevent her from escaping, Bronte was assigned to accompany her.
Diana didn't react much to this arrangement. As long as she didn't have to share a bed with Charles, anything was possible.
Bronte liked Diana but was afraid of making mistakes like Tessa and getting fired, so she was a bit obsequious.
With a loud, deep horn, the ship set sail.
Bronte, standing across from Diana, looked around the luxurious room and couldn't help but say, "This is so fancy. It's my first time on a ship like this. Thanks to you, Ms. Spencer."
Diana sat on the sofa, fiddling with her phone, not responding to Bronte.
Charles wasn't around, so she had a chance to talk to Dean.
Dean: [Sophia, are you on the ship?]
Dean: [Are you sure you want to do this? I'm so nervous.]
Diana couldn't help but imagine the 6'3" Dean curled up in a ball, looking helpless.
She stifled a laugh and replied: [Didn't we handle the car accident well last time? What's there to be afraid of now?]
Dean: [This is different. We're at sea. There are so many uncertainties. I'm really scared. What if something goes wrong?]
Dean was genuinely nervous. He had been relieved when Diana was unharmed in the car accident.
Now, with the cold weather and Diana being pregnant, how could she go into the water?
Diana: [I trust you. Besides, I'm prepared. My baby isn't that fragile.]
Diana: [This is the only way I can completely escape Evergreen City and leave Charles. Dean, we're family.]
Diana's firm tone encouraged Dean.
Right, they had faced so many challenges together. How could he back down because of Charles?
Dean: [Okay! Sophia, I won't let you down!]
Seeing his promise, Diana smiled faintly.
Bronte noticed and scratched her head. "Ms. Spencer, did something good happen? You look so happy."
Bronte was a straightforward servant. She was older, and Diana was about the same age as her daughter, so she often treated Diana with a mix of familiarity and nagging.
Diana put away her phone and looked up. "Nothing, just saw some interesting news."
Bronte seemed skeptical but didn't press further. "Just playing on your phone can be boring. I wonder when Mr. Percy will be back."
"If you miss him so much, you can go look for him," Diana said indifferently.
Anyone else might have taken that as sarcasm, but Bronte didn't mind. She laughed and replied, "I'm too old to miss him. I'm just worried you might."
Suddenly, a clear male voice came from behind, "Who's missing me?"
Diana's body tensed, surprised at how accurate Bronte's timing was. Just as she mentioned Charles, he appeared.
Bronte, eager to see what would happen next, stepped back with a smile.
"Mr. Percy, you came at the perfect time. We were just talking about you. Ms. Spencer misses you."
With that, she tactfully left, closing the door behind her.
Diana was stunned by Bronte's smooth exit. When Charles touched her face, she snapped out of it and pushed him away.
"She was just talking nonsense. We weren't saying anything."
Her expression was resistant, eager to explain and distance herself from Charles.
It was hurtful.
The smile that had originally spread across his face faded away, his lips frozen in an awkward position, making him look rather unsettling.
Realizing she might have overreacted, Diana paused and explained, "I don't like her making things up. We were just discussing entertainment."
Charles' expression didn't improve much, but remembering her situation, he suppressed his emotions and said, "It's fine. Come take a walk with me."
Diana's eyes widened. This wasn't the time for a walk, was it?
"What's wrong? Don't want to?" Charles pressed when she remained silent.
