Chapter 537 Secretary

Nolan was worried about saying the wrong thing, so he chose his words carefully.

Over time, he realized that even though Diana seemed laid-back, she handled things just like Charles.

Sometimes he wondered if he had actually changed bosses.

"Thanks for your concern. If you're not too busy, you could help Dean with his work."

Diana yawned and kept her eyes closed, resting.

Nolan got the hint and shut up, not wanting to annoy her any further.

Half an hour later, the car pulled up at the company.

Diana took the executive elevator straight to her office, avoiding too much interaction with other employees.

She had just started her computer when there was a knock on the door.

"Come in."

Diana didn't look up. Usually, it was Abigail coming in to report and remind her of the day's schedule.

But today, a different female voice spoke,

"Ms. Spencer, here are the meeting materials for today and some documents that need your signature."

Diana looked up to see Claire, another secretary, dressed in a pristine white business suit with her hair neatly tied back.

Their previous encounters hadn't been very pleasant, and since Diana took over the company, Claire had been almost invisible, staying downstairs.

If Claire hadn't come up today, Diana might have forgotten about her entirely.

"Why are you here? Where's Abigail?"

Diana took the documents and discreetly sized Claire up.

"Abigail is sick, so I'm delivering these today."

Claire's smile was gentle, revealing no ulterior motives.

"I've been at the company for a while now, but I hardly ever see you. As a secretary, shouldn't you be interacting with me more often?"

Diana asked, puzzled.

In over three months, she hadn't seen Claire at all, which seemed odd.

"Well, Ms. Spencer, although I'm a secretary, most of Mr. Percy's work is handled by Nolan and Abigail. Technically, I'm more of Abigail's assistant."

Claire explained.

Initially, she and Abigail were on equal footing, but Claire's work style was more laid-back, and her relationship with Elise meant she often had little to do.

The company treated her like a mascot.

Feeling a bit guilty after explaining, Claire worried Diana might fire her.

Unexpectedly, Diana simply nodded indifferently.

Charles's employees were not her concern.

After flipping through a few pages and confirming everything was in order, Diana continued,

"I have a meeting with Mr. Richardson this afternoon. Book a private room nearby."

Claire nodded and took the signed documents out.

Back at her desk, Claire threw the files down and dialed a number, frowning.

When the call connected, her tone was harsh,

"Do you have any idea how miserable I am at the company? You insisted I make my presence known to Diana!"

On the other end, Zachary's voice was playful,

"Sweetheart, you're the only one who can openly interact with her. We share common interests, and you need to contribute."

"Ugh!"

Claire snapped, dropping her usual gentle demeanor and cursing under her breath,

"Zachary, cut the crap. I've set up so many chances for you, and you blew every single one. Now you want my help? Are you nuts?"

"You know how tough Diana is. This time, we need to make sure she doesn't bounce back," Zachary said, rolling his eyes.

He was unimpressed with Claire's lack of progress after five years with Charles.

If it weren't for her unique position to approach Diana, he wouldn't bother working with her.

To prevent her from arguing further, Zachary threatened, "If you don't help, I'll spill everything you've done. Let's see how Charles reacts."

"You!" Claire's anger flared, but she held back, knowing their intertwined interests left her no choice.

"Fine, I'll help you, but if you piss me off, we'll both go down."

"Deal." Zachary grinned, reassured her, and hung up.

Claire took a deep breath, contemplating her next move.

Diana was running the company while Charles was recovering. This was a golden opportunity not to be missed.

However, Diana was meticulous, and after three days, Claire hadn't found any flaws.

Both Zachary and Claire were growing anxious as the shareholders' opinion of Diana improved, making their situation increasingly precarious.

---

In the executive office, Diana sat at her computer, idly reviewing documents.

Nearby, Dean was slouched on the couch with his laptop, looking frustrated.

"Why do I have to do all this work?" Dean grumbled, feeling his life being drained by the tasks. He preferred taking on missions for the alliance instead.

"Why is being a CEO so annoying? It's driving me crazy!"

Seeing Diana ignore him, Dean raised his voice.

"Alright, if you have time to complain, you could have finished your work," Diana yawned.

She disliked the tedious tasks as much as Dean, but once she took on a responsibility, she aimed to excel—that was her life philosophy.

Before Dean could grumble further, the phone rang.

Diana answered, and Claire's sweet voice came through, "Ms. Spencer, the car is ready downstairs, and the documents are prepared. When will you be leaving?"

Diana glanced at the time, remembering her meeting with Billy, and replied, "I'll be ready in ten minutes."

"Okay, Ms. Spencer."

After hanging up, Dean looked at her, "Meeting Billy again? Diana, what's going on between you two? I heard he likes you."

Diana rolled her eyes and started getting ready, "You think you know everything. We're just friends, discussing work. Do you want to come?"

"Sure, I don't feel like working today. I'll hand my tasks to Nolan, and we can meet Billy and grab a bite," Dean said, his interest piqued. He saved his files and cheerfully joined Diana.

Diana pushed him away, annoyed, "Don't block the way. Why are you coming? I already have a secretary."

"One secretary or two, what's the difference? Are you treating me like an outsider, not introducing your friends to me?"

Dean crossed his arms, playfully accusing her.
