Chapter 419 Drunkard 1

It was the first time Diana had seen Jacob so flustered. They exchanged glances for a moment before she finally relented, throwing on a coat and getting out of bed.

Benjamin, seeing her get up, eagerly followed.

As they stepped out of the room, the sound of glass shattering echoed from downstairs.

Diana turned to Jacob and asked, "Is he drunk and causing trouble?"

Jacob's face turned awkward at her question.

After a moment of hesitation, he replied, "Yeah, Mr. Percy usually isn't like this. I don't know why he's so angry today. He's broken several glasses and vases, and the servants are too scared to go near him."

Diana stopped in her tracks, crossing her arms. "There are so many of them, and they can't handle one Charles. What good will it do if I go?"

Jacob bit his lip. He couldn't exactly say that Charles had been calling out "Diana" and that she resembled her enough to calm him down.

"Ms. Wipere, you'll understand once you get there. Everyone will be around, and they won't let Mr. Percy harm you."

Jacob decided to put it more delicately.

Seeing his pleading eyes, Diana sighed and crouched down in front of Benjamin.

"You should go back to bed. I'll handle this. He's been drinking, and I don't want you to get hurt."

Benjamin pouted and shook his head. "No, I want to go with you. That way, I can protect you."

Diana flicked his forehead, making him wince in pain. He didn't understand until she said, "If you can't handle this little pain, how can you protect me? Be good and go back to sleep. I'll be fine. The butler said the servants will protect me."

With that, Diana stood up, leaving no room for refusal, and turned to Jacob. "Please take Benjamin back to his room. I'll go downstairs."

Jacob took Benjamin's hand and gave Diana a grateful look. "Alright, thank you."

Another glass shattered downstairs, and Diana smiled reassuringly at Benjamin. "Go back, really, it's fine."

She raised her arm and flexed her muscles. "If he causes trouble, I'll knock him out with one punch!"

Benjamin laughed, less worried now, and mimicked a kicking motion. "You can also kick him like this, right there!"

Diana nodded, and the two shared a lighthearted moment.

Jacob, however, felt conflicted. These two weren't afraid of Charles at all, discussing this right in front of him.

Remembering that Charles was still waiting downstairs, Jacob tugged Benjamin. "Ms. Wipere, I'll take him back to his room. You go take care of Mr. Percy. I'll be right there."

Diana nodded and waved goodbye to Benjamin.

As they walked in opposite directions, Diana took a deep breath to steady herself once Benjamin was out of sight.

The chaos downstairs made her nervous. What if Charles went berserk and attacked her?

Jacob must really want her gone, always giving her these thankless tasks.

Diana clicked her tongue but headed downstairs anyway. After all, this mess started because of her.

Downstairs, a group of servants stood together, staring at Charles on the couch with uneasy expressions.

Shards of glass and ceramic littered the floor around them. Jacob hadn't been exaggerating; Charles was indeed smashing things in a fit of rage.

"Mr. Percy, would you like some ginger tea?" one of the servants hesitantly approached with a tray.

"Get out!" Charles snapped, grabbing a nearby cup and hurling it.

The custom-made cup, worth tens of thousands of dollars, shattered, leaving only two intact.

The servant, holding the tray, couldn't dodge in time.

Just as the cup was about to hit, a slender hand intercepted it with precision.

The servant's eyes widened, following the hand to see Diana.

She weighed the crystal cup in her hand before setting it on a nearby table.

She gestured to the others and whispered, "If he goes crazy, hold him down and protect me."

Though she was also employed by Charles, her words carried an unusual authority. The servants, forgetting their drunken master, nodded in agreement.

Feeling slightly more confident, Diana approached the couch, psyching herself up.

As she got closer, she noticed Charles' neck and ears were flushed. His right hand covered his eyes, obscuring his expression.

Sensing someone nearby, he moved his hand, revealing bloodshot eyes that made Diana's heart skip a beat.

Recognizing her, Charles relaxed slightly and remained motionless on the couch.

His drunken state was Eugene's fault.

Eugene had mixed drinks without knowing their strength, and Charles, lost in thought, drank without realizing.

The alcohol hit him hard, making his head throb and stomach churn.

Eugene's chatter only worsened his mood. Charles slapped Eugene, who immediately quieted down. He then sent Charles home and left Jacob to clean up the mess.

Back home, the servants' fussing and the smell of ginger tea made him nauseous. He refused to drink, but they persisted, proving useless.

"Mr. Percy? Do you remember who I am? Are you still with it?"

Diana waved a hand in front of his face.

Charles, quicker to speak than think in his drunken state, blurted out, "Diana."

The servants exchanged glances and then looked down.

Diana wasn't startled this time. She touched his feverish skin and muttered, "How much did you drink? You can't even recognize people."

Charles stayed silent, his mind clear but body uncooperative, making him seem dazed.

But the woman before him thought he was drunk. So, he played along, her cool hand and faint scent more pleasant than the ginger tea.

Seeing his silence, Diana felt relieved. It wasn't as bad as she feared.

"Mr. Percy, let me help you upstairs. It's too cold to sleep here."

She didn't expect a response, thinking his silence meant refusal, giving her an excuse to leave.

"Okay."

Charles, fixated on her moving lips, agreed instinctively.

Just then, Jacob arrived, hearing this and quickly stepping in.

"Ms. Wipere, I'll help Mr. Percy upstairs. Please follow us."

He reached for Charles' arm, but Charles pulled away in disdain.

Drunk Charles was particularly unreasonable. He frowned and said to Diana, "Not him, you."
