Chapter 60 Awkward

As soon as Charles left the estate, he spotted Nolan waiting for him. Nolan looked jittery and avoided eye contact. "Mr. Percy."

Charles ignored him and headed straight for the driver's seat. Nolan was freaking out. If he didn't fix this, he'd be stuck farming potatoes in Phoenix. So, he blurted out, "I'm sorry, Mr. Percy. I messed up your instructions. I didn't check with you in time and ruined your evening. Please, give me another shot. I promise it won't happen again."

Charles acted like Nolan wasn't even there, starting the car right in front of him. Nolan got even more desperate. "Mr. Percy, let me drive. You've had a long day; you should rest. By the way, Ms. Spencer hasn't shown up yet. Let's wait for her."

Nolan was just babbling, hoping Diana would show up and take some heat off him.

Hearing Diana's name, Charles paused for a second but still ignored Nolan. He lightly pressed the gas pedal and sped off.

Nolan noticed Charles's brief hesitation and chased after the car, shouting, "Mr. Percy! I can apologize to Ms. Spencer and explain everything to her." Out of breath, Nolan couldn't run any further. He bent over, hands on his knees, thinking he was doomed.

But then the car reversed back, and Charles rolled down the window, his face stern. "I'll give you one more chance."

Nolan was almost in tears, sincerely grateful to Diana for the first time. "Thank you, Mr. Percy!"

Charles got out and sat in the back, letting Nolan drive. Nolan fastened his seatbelt and cautiously glanced at Charles's stern face in the rearview mirror. "Mr. Percy, what about Ms. Spencer?"

Charles replied indifferently, "To the left." He had just asked the security guard at the gate, who said he saw a very pretty girl walking to the left.

Harmony Haven Estate was in the suburbs, and now that it was dark, there were hardly any cars on the road. Diana was walking alone in her thin clothes, but luckily, her phone wasn't on her when she fell into the water.

As soon as Diana got her phone, she messaged Isolde and Robert to let them know she was safe. She also asked Robert to come pick her up.

Diana could have waited quietly at the Richardson Family's estate, but the thought of Charles being there made her resist, so she set off on her own.

The road was filled with the sounds of insects and night birds, which didn't scare Diana. Even if it were ghostly wails, she would still think they sounded better than Charles's voice. But the next moment, she heard the sound of a car approaching.

Nolan had sharp eyes and saw Diana walking alone from a distance. The temperature in late autumn was already very low, and Diana was still wearing short sleeves. Her slender figure looked fragile and unsteady.

Charles discreetly looked her up and down without saying a word.

"Ms. Spencer! Ms. Spencer, wait for me!" Nolan shouted.

Diana heard the familiar voice but didn't want to turn around. Nolan stepped on the gas to catch up with her and continued, "I'm sorry, Ms. Spencer. The problem with the party was my fault. Mr. Percy asked me to invite you, but I used such a rough method to bring you here. Mr. Percy didn't mean any harm; it was all a misunderstanding, Ms. Spencer." Nolan's tone was full of pleading, hoping for Diana's forgiveness.

Hearing this, Diana suddenly stopped and turned around. Nolan was delighted, thinking Diana was willing to forgive him, so he stopped the car to listen to her.

But Diana's face was full of sarcasm as she spoke to Charles in the back seat, "So I should thank Mr. Percy? For not meaning any harm when he threw me into the water and almost drowned me?" She emphasized "drowned," making it clear she was still furious.

Nolan was at a loss for words since he hadn't been there when it happened. If he had, he would've stopped Charles for sure.

The autumn night wind blew Diana's hair all over the place. She tried to tuck it behind her ear but accidentally touched her wound. Her sharp intake of breath was loud in the quiet night. But she didn't stop and kept walking.

Charles's expression darkened as he watched Diana's back. He noticed her hand was injured. After being soaked in water, the wound looked pretty nasty.

Seeing Diana about to leave again, Nolan could only follow her slowly. But Charles commanded, "Stop the car." He got out and quickly caught up to Diana with his long strides. "Diana, get in the car!"

Diana covered her ears and kept running, clearly showing she didn't want to ride in the same car with Charles.

Charles lost his patience and scooped Diana up by the waist. Suddenly lifted off the ground, Diana clung to Charles's neck in fright. "Charles, you lunatic! I don't want to sit in your car! I'd rather crawl back myself!" She kicked and struggled but was shoved into the car.

Nolan, thinking ahead, locked the door on her side. Once Charles got in and settled, the car slowly started moving.

Diana shrank into a corner, keeping her distance from Charles. 'Who knows what he's planning now?' she wondered.

Nolan raised the partition between the driver's seat and the back, giving them some privacy. Charles suddenly broke the silence. "Give me your hand."

Diana didn't know what Charles wanted and instinctively hid her hand behind her back, ignoring him. Seeing her uncooperative, Charles took matters into his own hands and pulled her right hand from behind her back.

In the struggle, Diana's barely healed wound reopened, oozing blood. Seeing that one hand couldn't escape him, she tried to use the other. But the next moment, both her hands were pinned above her head, pressed against the seatback.

His brows furrowed and he said in a low voice, "Stop it!"

Hearing this, Diana struggled even more. 'Stop it? Is he treating me like a pet? I am determined to make a scene, a big one!'

Charles lost all patience and pulled her into his lap, making her sit with her back to him. His knee acted like a clamp, holding her kicking legs in place. One of his hands gripped both of Diana's hands, while the other rested on her waist.

Diana felt surrounded by the woody scent mixed with alcohol from Charles, making her dizzy. But the difference in strength was too great; she couldn't break free and could only squirm.

Her movements caused Charles to react. "Don't move!" Charles's voice was tight and hoarse, and his breath was hot against Diana's neck, giving her goosebumps.

Diana wasn't stupid; she could feel Charles's reaction pressing against her uncomfortably. She gritted her teeth, her eyes red with anger, yelling, "Charles, you're drunk! You pervert!"

Charles had indeed been drinking, but his eyes were clear. Seeing Diana stop struggling, he released her waist and picked up some medicine. It was a first-aid kit he always kept in the car. Diana's wound was quite large. He didn't know how she got hurt, but if it wasn't treated, it could get infected.

"Hold out your hand," Charles commanded again.

Diana finally understood he wanted to apply medicine for her. She started struggling again. "You should have said you were going to apply medicine. Let me go; I can do it myself."

Charles, already aroused by her movements, warned, "If you keep moving, I can't guarantee what will happen next." He didn't know what perfume Diana was wearing, but it smelled really good. It was not overpowering, just a soft, warm sweetness that made Charles feel indulgent.

Diana felt the thing beneath her growing larger, and Charles's breathing became heavier.
