Chapter 74 He's About to Make a Move
Clara was still fuming, ready to fire back, but Nathan cut her off from the stairs. The noise in the living room was so loud, he heard it all the way from his study. "Clara, how can you talk to your mother like that?" he scolded.
Nathan walked over, put an arm around the shaky Mia, and gently patted her back to calm her down. Then he turned to Clara and said, "Your mom's right! We gotta wait for the right moment. Now is the time to be patient and bide our time. We can't afford to jeopardize our grand plan!"
Clara flopped onto the sofa, her voice dripping with impatience. "Wait, wait, wait! You always make me wait! Last time she hit me, I had to wait. This time, I'm still waiting! Am I even your daughter?"
Nathan consoled Mia and then walked over to Clara, giving her shoulder a reassuring pat to calm her down. "Clara, of course, you're our daughter." He paused, signaling the servants to leave, and continued, "Did something happen again? What's going on?"
Thinking about today, Clara felt so upset she started to cry. Mia, who had been angry, softened when she saw Clara's tears. She stepped forward and hugged Clara, asking gently, "What happened?"
Clara sobbed and choked out her response. "Today was the promotional event. I specifically called Charles over. But he said my plan had issues and scolded me. That would've been fine, but that bitch Diana, I don't know what luck she had. She found someone to collaborate with her and sold a ton of stuff. Now Charles thinks I'm stupid and she's in the spotlight."
Nathan thought for a moment and patted Clara's head. "Don't worry, I've already got people on it. In the next few days, we'll take care of those nuisances. You just keep making Charles happy. Men don't like women who are too smart and overshadow them. Being clever doesn't really matter."
Mia hugged Clara too. "It's all my fault, I'm sorry you had to go through this. Once we get the company back, you can go back to being our little princess at home, and no one will dare to bully you."
Clara nodded with tears in her eyes, feeling a bit better. Seeing everyone had calmed down, Nathan headed back upstairs. He had to personally handle getting rid of those old employees. Nathan returned to his computer and sent a message to the other party. In just a few minutes, they replied.
B: [Three people? That's not what we agreed on before.]
Nathan: [Just threaten two of them. But that woman, make sure to get rid of her.]
It wasn't that he was ruthless; it was just that Saskia knew too much.
B: [Fine, but it'll cost more. $500,000 for each.]
Nathan: [Why so expensive? Even just threatening someone costs $500,000?]
B: [What? Can't you afford it? You can always find someone else. A human life isn't worth $500,000? You won't have any worries afterward.]
Nathan was really stressed, but hearing this, he had no choice but to pay up.
B: [Alright, I'll look into these three people. Wait for my message.]
Seeing the other party agree, Nathan let out a long sigh of relief. As long as these three were dealt with, everything on Diana's side would be resolved. Spending a bit more money was nothing; after all, the Spencer Group would still be his in the end. But just as Nathan went offline, Dean quickly contacted someone else.
B: [Sophia, he's making his move.]
Even before Diana reached out to the old employees, she had Dean keeping tabs on Nathan. Dean didn't know why, but the deeper he dug, the more he realized Nathan was no ordinary guy. Hiring a hitman? That was next-level.
If Dean hadn't been watching, someone else on the Dark Web might've snagged the job. Now it was his, and with Diana's cooperation, he could make a killing off Nathan. Thinking of this, Dean sent another message.
B: [He hired a hitman. These are his targets. The woman is marked for death, the other two just need to be threatened.]
Diana didn't reply, so Dean got back to his own business. It wasn't until eleven at night that Diana finally logged in. Seeing Dean's message, she wasn't surprised. The Williams were both stupid and evil. That was why she had Dean keep an eye on them. Since they were asking for trouble despite having a good life, she wouldn't hold back.
A: [Do your usual work, but don't hurt anyone. I need evidence.]
Dean, still at his computer, quickly got what Diana meant. Sophia wanted to keep evidence, which spelled bad news for Nathan. Dean shook his head slightly in pity and replied.
B: [Alright, Sophia. I asked him for $1.5 million, and I'll give it all to you.]
This time, Diana didn't reply. She was pregnant and way sleepier than before. Unable to stay up late, and trusting Dean, she dozed off in her chair. It wasn't until the middle of the night, when her back started to ache, that she got up to go to bed.
Thanks to the success of the live streaming, the Spencer Group's original factory was back in action. Diana didn't go to the company, instead having Coralie find a few more pretty and articulate hosts to keep the momentum going.
However, things weren't going so hot for Clara. A bunch of people were trashing the luxury food, curious about what made it so expensive. Despite the PR department's emergency response, posting the ingredients, they still got slammed for the high prices.
Clara even made a bunch of fake accounts to argue with people online, but when she couldn't win, she fired several employees in a fit of rage. She smashed things in the office, and the employees outside didn't dare to breathe, scared of setting her off.
Just now, Clara stormed out of her office, calling out the names of a few employees who were just coasting along.
"Pack your things and leave," Clara snapped, not even sparing them a glance. In no time, Clara's team was almost halved.
Axel was sweating bullets, relieved he wasn't fired but also scared he might be next. After smashing things, Clara felt a bit better. 'Diana didn't come to the company again today. She better never come! When Nathan's people make their move, Diana will be the one crying!' Clara thought.
Someone knocked on the door, and Clara thought it was Coralie. With so many people fired today, there might be some labor disputes. Seeing it was Axel, Clara frowned and asked, "What do you want?"
Axel carefully stepped around the broken glass and said, "Ms. Williams, I've been looking at the online comments. I think we can actually use them."
