Chapter 399 Eugene Arrives
After she spoke, she stared at Diana and Angie, urging them, "Why aren't you drinking? Do you look down on me just like Stella does?"
She grabbed the fruit wine and poured some into their glasses.
Angie, clearly used to Jennifer's outbursts, took a sip without hesitation. "Alright, Jennifer, chill out. Everyone's gonna hear you."
Not sure what the mix of champagne and fruit wine would taste like, Diana watched as Angie drank it without any expression. Taking a couple of sips herself, she found the flavor quite pleasant and licked her lips.
She looked at the agitated Jennifer and reassured her, "I think your wish will come true."
This wasn't just flattery; Diana had seen the breakup firsthand. She took another sip of the sweet, aromatic wine, savoring its lingering taste.
Jennifer, pleased by Diana's words, lifted her chin and smiled. "I believe you now. Stella's enemy is my friend. What's your name?"
"I'm—" Diana began, but a hand suddenly wrapped around her shoulder, and the scent of cologne filled her nose.
A playful male voice whispered in her ear, "Hey, babe, what are you doing here?"
Diana frowned and turned to see Eugene's handsome but annoyingly smug face.
Unlike Charles, Eugene was leaner, with slightly upturned eyes and thin lips that seemed to smile even when he wasn't.
This kind of charming and refined appearance was especially popular among the girls.
Jennifer and Angie were already swooning, their voices turning sugary sweet. "Mr. Bailey, what a surprise!"
Eugene, as if just noticing them, greeted, "Hello, beautiful ladies."
"Let go!" Diana snapped, not falling for his charm. Where had Eugene come from, and why was he holding her?
She pried his fingers off her shoulder with surprising strength, making him wince and release her, shaking his wrist. "Are you trying to break my hand?"
"That's the idea," Diana retorted, stepping back with a cold demeanor.
She barely knew Eugene, and this was only their second meeting. His behavior was disrespectful.
"Are you Eugene's date?" Jennifer's gaze turned curious, darting between them as if piecing something together.
Eugene's reputation in Evergreen City was mixed, but his womanizing was well-known. If Diana was with him, her family probably wasn't well-off.
"No, we're not close. Sir, please keep your distance," Diana said, crossing her arms and glaring at Eugene.
Eugene clutched his chest dramatically. "How can you say that? I thought we were at least friends."
He turned to Jennifer and Angie, "Ladies, could you give us a moment alone?"
The two women exchanged glances, curious but respectful of Eugene. "Alright," they said, moving to the other side of the garden.
Once they were gone, Eugene dropped his act, raising an eyebrow. "Where's Charles? Why are you alone? Those two aren't exactly kind-hearted, you know. Talking to them, you might not even realize if you get into trouble."
"None of your business. I don't owe you any explanations," Diana snapped. Eugene was even more irritating than Jennifer and Angie.
Eugene laughed instead of getting angry. "You haven't changed a bit. I'm curious how you managed to get away."
A brief silence fell between them.
Diana's expression remained unchanged as she met his gaze. "I don't know what you're talking about."
Eugene smirked but didn't press further. "You look a lot like someone I know. I keep thinking she's back."
"Sir, with all your money, you should see a doctor about your eyes," Diana said, her face calm, but her trembling hands betrayed her nerves.
She almost thought Eugene had figured it out, but his casual attitude suggested he was joking.
Returning with this face was too bold. Diana's heart pounded. She needed to leave quickly. If Eugene could guess her identity, Charles might too.
"Mr. White, you can sign now," Nolan's voice broke the tension in the living room.
It had been nearly 15 minutes since Oliver said he wanted to take a closer look at the contract. He could spend ages on each page, and each one seemed to take an eternity to get through.
Nolan could tell Charles was losing patience.
"Sorry, my eyesight isn't great. Can my lawyer take another look?" Oliver's apologetic tone was grating. He wasn't struggling to see; he was stalling.
Charles tapped his fingers on the sofa, raising an eyebrow. "If you don't want to sign, then don't."
Nolan understood and moved to retrieve the contract, but Oliver was quicker, snatching it back. Nolan's hand froze mid-air, and he glanced awkwardly at Charles.
Oliver's voice was firm. "Mr. Percy, I need to speak with you alone. I'm begging you."
Calista sighed and stood, pulling Stella up. "Let's give them some privacy."
The White family might be doing well now, but they still relied on the Percy family. Oliver, despite his age, had to beg Charles, a much younger man.
Nolan frowned. "Mr. White, are you trying to pressure us? Isn't this deal good enough?"
"Nolan, leave us," Charles ordered. Nolan hesitated but complied, leaving the room.
Dealing with the White family was tiresome, but Charles was curious to hear what Oliver had to say.
Once everyone left, Oliver stood and bowed deeply to Charles, his white hair and tightly pressed lips showing his desperation.
"Please, Mr. Percy, keep my daughter."
Charles remained seated, his expression indifferent. "If that's all you have to say, you can stop. Sign the contract, and we can continue our partnership."
"After the wedding, Stella won't care who you're with. Even if you have other women, we won't mind," Oliver pleaded, his voice quickening.
"Stella has been with you for nearly four years. Everyone in Evergreen City knows she's your woman. If you break off the engagement now, who will marry her?"
