Chapter 136 Isolde Arrives
Isolde put on a mock angry face when she heard that. "What do you mean by that? Treating me like a stranger?"
Diana knew Isolde was pretty blunt, so she held back her thanks and switched topics. "How's the company doing these days?"
Diana had a reason for asking. Charles had threatened her before, saying he'd make life tough for those around her.
"It's doing great. Are you thinking of joining me?" Isolde said, plopping down next to Diana and nudging her. "Scoot over, I want to lie down too."
Diana chuckled at her antics. "What are you doing? I'm the patient here."
Isolde squeezed onto the bed, and they sat side by side. She found her coat annoying, so she took it off and tossed it aside, her face turning serious. "Diana, do you really want to have this baby?"
Diana nodded but glanced at the surveillance camera nearby.
Isolde followed her gaze, her face darkening. "What does this mean? He's watching you?" She whispered right into Diana's ear.
Diana didn't answer but pulled out her phone. She opened her chat with Isolde and started typing.
Diana: [I don't want to have this baby. If Clara hadn't snitched, I would have found a chance to get an abortion.]
Isolde knew Diana didn't want Charles to know about their conversation, so she opened her phone, and they began a silent face-to-face chat.
Isolde: [I've been keeping an eye on her, but she's almost done for. The Williams Family has laid off a bunch of servants. Seems like they're out of money. Clara goes to the Spencer Group every day, dragging her team to figure out how to liquidate assets quickly.]
Diana smirked, thinking Clara and her family must hate her now.
Nathan would never have guessed that his $1.5 million ended up in Diana's hands.
Diana added: [Once I can get out, I'll make them pay.]
Isolde didn't follow up on that but typed seriously beside her.
Isolde: [This is the Percy Group's hospital. It seems Charles wants this baby. So, after the baby is born, what about you? Are you going to remarry him?]
Diana shook her head and typed back: [He only wants the baby.]
Isolde's expression darkened.
Since Cecil was kidnapped last time, Isolde no longer trusted human nature.
Finnian was so sinister without any power, let alone Charles who was a powerful man, and he treated Diana like a baby-making machine, with no respect whatsoever.
And the Percy Family was a dangerous place. Charles hadn't experienced the ten months of pregnancy and hated Diana. How could he possibly ensure the child would be safe and unharmed?
Isolde was grateful that Charles had intervened in time to stop Finnian back then. But that incident also showed that Charles was ruthless and merciless, not someone to be trusted.
Isolde typed a solemn promise: [No matter what, I support you. I'll help you.]
Diana smiled slightly at this and closed her phone, speaking directly, "Then thank you in advance, Ms. Porter, for your unwavering support."
Isolde was amused by her flattering manner. "I can't imagine how you'll take care of a child once you're a mom."
Diana instinctively touched her abdomen at these words.
It was still flat, with no sign of life inside, but the child was indeed there.
Diana didn't respond, just gave a silent smile. She still hadn't come to terms with having this baby.
Given the current situation with Charles, it was best to avoid saying anything that might set him off.
The two didn't chat for long. Isolde, aware of the surveillance, kept it brief and left with Cecil.
Before leaving, she told Diana to call her if she needed anything.
Diana nodded. In this situation, phone contact was the easiest.
So she didn't ask Isolde to stay long and had Evelyn see her out.
After they left, Brenda knocked on the door. "Ms. Spencer, may I come in?"
"Come in. What's up?"
Brenda smiled awkwardly and handed her phone over.
Diana raised an eyebrow and saw it was Charles calling.
Realizing he might be upset about Isolde's visit, Diana took a deep breath and tried to keep her tone calm. "Hello, Mr. Percy, what can I do for you?"
"Diana, who gave you permission to see people without my consent?" Charles' cold voice came through the line.
Diana frowned and looked at Brenda, confused.
Isolde was indeed called over by Evelyn, but the entire hospital was under Charles' control.
If he didn't want Isolde to come in, he would have stopped her long ago.
Now that the visit was over and he was questioning her?
Brenda, feeling Diana's gaze, looked away and finally made a pleading gesture with her hands.
Diana shifted her gaze from Brenda and said to Charles, "Mr. Percy, according to the agreement, I am free to go out, right?"
"Yes."
"Then, due to my physical condition, I can't go out now, and my friend wants to visit me. Is there a problem? Besides, your people are everywhere here." Diana's tone was calm, implying that the visit was under his surveillance, so there was no reason to be angry.
Charles was silent for a moment, then coughed lightly. "From now on, anyone who comes must register."
Diana rolled her eyes. "Okay, Mr. Percy, got it. If there's nothing else, I'll hang up now."
She really didn't want to talk to Charles any longer and was eager to hang up.
The next second, Charles' voice came from the phone. "This is my private number. Save it."
Charles seemed to remember Diana's temper and added, "This is an order. If I find out you didn't save it, you should know the consequences."
The next second, the phone screen lit up, showing the call duration of three and a half minutes.
Diana handed the phone back to Brenda, staring at her intently. "What happened?"
Brenda didn't intend to hide anything. As the main person taking care of Diana, she was more inclined to side with Diana.
Compared to the complex relationships in wealthy families, Brenda just wanted Diana to have a healthy pregnancy.
When Isolde arrived, she was stopped by the bodyguards. Brenda saw this and intervened.
Isolde happened to be holding a child, so Brenda didn't question much and let her in.
Now that Diana didn't want her child, maybe seeing Isolde as a mother would give her more feelings.
But Brenda's actions had displeased Charles, which was why he called earlier.
Brenda briefly explained to Diana, and seeing her expression soften, she breathed a sigh of relief.
Diana remembered Charles' words and took out her phone. "Dr. Ramos, let's exchange contact information. And please send me Mr. Percy's number."
In the lobby of the Percy Group's first floor, it was lunchtime, and a bunch of employees were taking a break, heading downstairs to chill.
Right then, Claire showed up and pretty much grabbed everyone's attention.
