Chapter 181 Silence

Diana felt a bit wobbly and had to pause for a moment before she could move again.

She let go of Charles's hand and whispered, "I can walk now, let's head back."

But in the next second, Charles grabbed her hand again, wrapping his fingers around hers, and pulled her along.

Diana tried to pull away, but his grip just got tighter. Eventually, she gave up and let him lead her.

It wasn't until they got into the car that he finally let go of her hand, slipping back into his usual cold demeanor.

They sat in the back seat in silence, the air thick with tension. The driver, noticing this through the rearview mirror, raised the partition between the front and back seats at just the right moment.

Diana quietly shrank into the corner, trying to make herself as small as possible. Her mind was a mess, and the torn clothes and red marks on her wrist were a stark reminder that what had just happened was real.

But why did Charles do this?

Was it because of her looks? If he was really that easily swayed by beauty, she would have had him wrapped around her finger ages ago.

Was it because of her personality? Diana quickly dismissed that idea.

Since the divorce, she had pissed Charles off so many times he probably wanted to strangle her. How could he possibly think she had a good personality?

But right now, this situation was really bad for her.

She didn't want this confusing relationship; she just wanted to get away as soon as possible.

Thinking this, Diana touched the bruises on her wrist, the pain making her a bit more clear-headed.

Charles noticed her movement and frowned.

Did he really use that much force? Just a squeeze and there were marks; was her skin that delicate?

"You..." He was about to say something when his phone vibrated in his pocket, the sound especially loud in the quiet car.

Diana shrank back again.

Charles's expression grew more impatient, but he still took out his phone.

It was Eugene.

The reason he had shown up in time today was because of Eugene's heads-up.

Thinking of this, Charles's expression softened a bit, and he swiped to answer the call. "What is it?"

Eugene's teasing voice came through the receiver, though it was low, Diana could hear it clearly.

"How's it going, Mr. Percy? Did you pick her up? You know, since you're there, why not stay and have some fun?"

"Is that all you have to say?" Charles's face remained expressionless. In hindsight, if it weren't for Eugene organizing this party, Diana wouldn't have gone.

Meanwhile, the party wasn't over, but everyone had been pretty shaken by the earlier scene. In particular, Charlotte looked pale.

Diana was divorced, so how could she still call Charles over? Could it be that she had this confidence from the start, which allowed her to remain so calm?

Thinking of this, Charlotte's face turned even worse.

If her suspicion turned out to be true, and Charles knew what she had done and said today, the entire Rose family would be doomed.

Not only was Charlotte scared, but everyone who had targeted Diana was also uneasy, yet they didn't dare to leave.

They could only glance at Eugene, trying to gauge Charles's mood through Eugene's expression.

"Of course not. I called to ask..." Eugene's playful expression faded, and his tone became somewhat serious, "Have you fallen in love with Diana?"

This question caught Charles off guard, and he instinctively turned to Diana. She must have heard it, yet when he glanced over, she seemed to be asleep, leaning against the corner.

Charles felt a surge of anger. Fall in love with her? That was absurd. He just didn't like his things being messed with by others.

And Eugene, was he getting too comfortable, thinking he could mock him like this?

Charles closed his eyes, lowering his voice, "You're done for..."

Eugene felt a shiver of unease. The last time Charles said that, he ended up supervising a mining site for a month.

That remote place in the mountains had terrible living conditions and awful food. The workers were all rough men, and just being around them was annoying.

Why had he pissed off Charles again this time? His guess couldn't be wrong. Charles definitely liked Diana. Eugene had been through countless relationships and could easily detect changes in Charles.

Charles, who never attended such parties, came immediately upon hearing Diana was there.

For any other guy, this might not mean much. But for Charles, who was notoriously insensitive to emotions, it was significant.

Eugene felt that if he didn't mention it, Charles might never realize it himself. But right now, protecting himself was more important.

Eugene's expression turned pitiful, and he pleaded, "Charles! Please, I won't ask again, just spare me, don't send me to the mountains..."

Eugene clutched his phone and bolted, leaving his jacket behind without hesitation. He couldn't afford to give Charles any chance of catching him.

Seeing him sprint away, everyone felt a chill. If even Eugene had no good outcome, they were doomed.

In no time, people around Charlotte began to disperse, knowing she was the mastermind and wanting to avoid being implicated.

In the car, Charles ended the call. He sent a message to Nolan, then put away his phone, leaning back in the seat with a dark expression.

Charles's mind raced as he tried to understand his feelings for Diana. Was it because she was obedient? No, she always opposed him. Was it because she was beautiful?

He caught a glimpse of Diana's profile. Her nose was high, her skin delicate, and as she slept, she seemed to be enveloped in a soft glow, looking much more docile than usual. She was beautiful.

But there were many beautiful women; why would he be attracted to this familiar face?

Charles closed his eyes, but the scene from the Mirage Nights Club room replayed in his mind. His Adam's apple bobbed, and when he opened his eyes, there was a noticeable bulge in his pants.

He reluctantly admitted that he desired to have sex with Diana.

He wanted to kiss her and see her eyes filled with tears, crying only for him.

"Lunatic, don't touch me..." A murmur reached his ears, though soft, it was clear.

Charles's thoughts were disrupted by her words.

Diana frowned lightly, her sleep restless, probably dreaming of something unpleasant.

Was she dreaming of him, making her so unhappy?

Charles felt a sudden pang of pain in his heart and, with a stern face, pushed Diana awake.

Diana shuddered, her eyes snapping open, clutching her chest and breathing heavily. She looked around and realized she was still in the car.

Charles sat next to her, his cold demeanor causing her to feel scared.

Diana had dozed off listening to the phone call. She had no idea what Eugene and Charles had talked about. But judging by his expression, it couldn't have been anything good.
