Chapter 521 Amnesia

The doctor shook his head sympathetically. "We don't really know much about that, but don't worry. Your wife will be here soon. You can ask her about your family situation."

Wife?

Charles was even more confused. In his memory, he had never felt anything special for any girl.

At seventeen, he had built high walls around his heart, keeping everyone out.

Hurried footsteps echoed down the hallway, and the door to the hospital room swung open again.

A young woman in a beige trench coat rushed in, her long hair slightly disheveled from running, her cheeks flushed with urgency. She had bright eyes, now filled with worry.

She stopped at the door, and upon seeing Charles awake, she instinctively took a step forward but then quickly stepped back, as if remembering something.

The doctor noticed her hesitant movements but still spoke up, "Mrs. Percy, Mr. Percy is awake. However, the explosion caused retrograde amnesia, and he doesn't remember many things."

The doctor's words pulled Diana back from her urge to flee. She stood there, stunned, mirroring the expression on Charles's face.

"Amnesia?" she asked.

Charles was also looking at her, and his first thought was, she was very beautiful.

The doctor cleared his throat. "Yes, Mrs. Percy. Why don't you come in and talk? We just did a brief check, and Mr. Percy has severe memory loss. He only remembers things up to when he was seventeen."

Diana blinked, her initial worry and fear turning into surprise.

Charles was still Charles, but now he only had the memories of a seventeen-year-old. He didn't know her!

She stepped forward and stood by the bed, cautiously speaking, "Charles, do you remember me? I'm Diana Spencer."

A faint sweet scent wafted over, and Charles stared at her for a few seconds before looking away. "Where's my grandmother?"

Diana's expression changed slightly, and she looked at the doctor.

"Mr. Percy," the doctor chose his words carefully, "given your current condition, we recommend gradually learning about the past to avoid too much shock..."

"Tell me," Charles's voice turned cold. Even though he was younger, his temper was still formidable.

Diana bit her lip. "Your grandmother passed away seven years ago."

Charles felt a wave of dizziness. His grandmother was the only person who cared for him after he lost his mother. Hearing this news was like a heavy blow to his chest.

His grandmother was dead, and he couldn't even remember their last meeting.

"What about my father?" he asked, taking a deep breath.

"He passed away too," Diana's voice was even softer, "three years before your grandmother."

Charles closed his eyes, seemingly trying to escape. The room fell into silence.

The doctor took the opportunity to instruct Diana, "Mrs. Percy, this news is very shocking for Mr. Percy. Please keep an eye on him tonight to prevent any incidents."

"If there's any problem, call us immediately. Tomorrow, the hospital will arrange a thorough examination for Mr. Percy."

Diana nodded, and soon the doctor and nurses left quickly, leaving just the two of them in the room.

She turned her head and realized Charles had opened his eyes again and was staring at her.

Deceased relatives, a stranger for a wife.

Charles realized there was a huge gap in his understanding of the world.

A seventeen-year-old soul trapped in a thirty-year-old body, facing a completely unfamiliar future.

"How do you feel? Are you in any pain?"

Diana broke the silence, her voice tinged with concern. Knowing Charles had amnesia, her heart was in turmoil.

Was seventeen-year-old Charles always like this? Although his face hadn't changed, he seemed much more polite and gentle.

Charles shook his head and then asked the question that had been on his mind, "Do you know who tried to kill me?"

Diana was reminded of why she had been called to the hospital in the middle of the night—not just because Charles had woken up, but because someone had tried to murder him.

She quickly stood up and went out to call Nolan.

When she returned twenty minutes later, having calmed down, she saw Charles was still awake.

She hesitated for a moment before answering his earlier question, "It was probably your brother."

"My brother?" Charles pictured the middle school boy he remembered, unable to imagine him hiring someone to kill.

But now, he was over thirty, which meant Zachary wasn't young anymore either. So he continued to ask, "Why?"

Diana was silent for a moment, then scratched her face. "Probably because you're now the head of the Percy Group. If you die, he can take over."

Charles almost laughed. In his memory, his father had never looked at him favorably, let alone handed over the family business. His stepmother's son was his father's favorite.

And now, he had somehow kicked them out and become the one in charge?

Charles couldn't reconcile this achievement with his memories. At seventeen, he was full of resentment and hostility towards the world. What had changed him? This woman in front of him?

"How did we meet?" he asked tentatively.

Diana's eyes flickered, and she quickly replied, "We had an arranged marriage, no feelings involved. You hated me. We were about to get divorced. Now that you're awake, we should sign the divorce papers soon."

However, Charles, who had been stunned earlier, shook his head at this. He placed a hand on his chest. "I don't hate you. My heart races because of you. You're lying."

Even though his brain had forgotten, his body remembered the feeling of affection.

Diana was so shocked by his bluntness that she couldn't speak, her heart pounding in response.

"If we were getting divorced, why did you come to the hospital in the middle of the night? You care about me," Charles continued confidently.

His grandmother loved him and would never have chosen the wrong person for him.

"Stop talking nonsense," Diana wanted to cover his mouth, but Charles seemed pleased, thinking he had guessed right.

There were still people in this world who cared about him.

"What kind of person am I now? Did we have a fight? Did I make you angry?"

The young Charles's thoughts were lively, more energetic than the thirty-year-old version. He frowned slightly, seeming to care about his unfamiliar wife's opinion.

Diana moved her chair back a bit and said sternly, "Don't overthink it. The doctor said you need to rest. You have tests in the morning. Close your mouth and go to sleep."

Charles looked at Diana's face and suddenly remembered the girls in his class.

There were plenty who liked him, but most spoke to him with gentle flattery or acted overly coy, making him want to keep his distance.

But Diana's commanding tone gave him a sense of satisfaction, the kind that only comes from close relationships.

Seeing him still awake, Diana urged, "Sleep!"
