Chapter 380 Psychologist

Charles didn't rush to reveal her identity; instead, he watched her reaction closely.

He could tell Diana didn't want anyone to recognize her.

So, he decided to play along and act like he hadn't recognized her either.

If even Charles, who used to be so close to her, claimed she just looked similar, who else would dare to confirm her identity?

Sure enough, when she realized her identity was still hidden, she breathed a sigh of relief.

But Diana didn't know that it was because he was cooperating that everything went so smoothly.

Charles took a deep breath to calm his inner turmoil.

Although he had managed to keep Diana around, the feeling that he could lose her at any moment made him intensely uneasy.

If it weren't for the need to keep up appearances and not scare her, he would have wanted to discharge himself and go home right away.

His wound was starting to ache again. Charles reached for his phone on the bedside table and dialed a number.

Since it was late at night, it took a while for the other person to answer, their voice heavy with sleep, likely woken up by the call.

Charles' psychologist, Maya Garcia, was initially furious at being woken up in the middle of the night, ready to lash out.

But when she saw who was calling, she quickly composed herself and answered the phone,

"Mr. Percy, what can I do for you?"

"Dr. Garcia, I saw her. She's back."

Charles' voice was urgent and dry, a stark contrast to his usual demeanor, indicating his emotional turmoil.

Maya's brow furrowed.

When she first started treating Charles' psychological issues, she discovered he had experienced hallucinations—imagining his deceased lover was still alive.

She was both surprised that the CEO of the immensely wealthy Percy Group could be brought to such a state by love and moved by his deep affection.

But now, hearing Charles mention "her" again, she suspected his condition might be worsening, requiring immediate intervention.

To avoid agitating him, Maya thought for a moment and decided to be tactful, "Really? What does she look like? Was she happy to see you?"

"She hasn't changed, still beautiful, though she has some dark circles, probably from staying up late. I'll keep an eye on that from now on."

"Was she happy to see me?"

Charles repeated her question, trying to recall her subtle expressions.

After a moment, his smile widened, and he replied to Maya, "Not happy. She doesn't want to be with me."

Charles' heart ached, but this was the real Diana. She was truly alive.

Maya's expression darkened. This hallucination was clearly affecting him.

"What did you two talk about?"

"We didn't talk, but I kept her. She's staying at my house. I'll be home soon."

Maya was puzzled, trying to discern the truth in his words, "What did you have her come back for? Did she say anything?"

Charles thought for a moment, his voice low, "Of course, to come back and be the lady of the Percy Group. We'll talk when I get home."

After a brief pause, he asked, "Dr. Garcia, have you ever met her? You could come to my house and see. Maybe there's some psychological method to make her willingly stay with me?"

Maya was startled by his words, wiping the thin sweat from her forehead. She was a psychologist, not a magician.

If she could really control people's minds, the first thing she'd do would be to cure him.

Patients with high intelligence like him were the most terrifying when they lost control.

"Sorry, Mr. Percy, whether she stays depends on your actions."

Maya forced a smile.

Charles, however, pondered her words, thinking about what he should do when he got home.

Just as he began to form a plan, Maya interrupted his thoughts, "In what kind of environment did you see her? Did anyone else see her besides you?"

"The hospital."

Realizing Maya was questioning the truth of his words, Charles grew agitated, "I'm telling the truth. She really came back. I'm not crazy. Everyone saw her."

Sensing his agitation, Maya soothed, "Okay, I understand. It's wonderful that she's back. This is very beneficial for you, Mr. Percy."

"Dr. Garcia, what do you think I should do? I don't want her to leave me again."

Faced with this question, Maya hesitated.

After a moment's thought, she decided to believe him for now and offer some advice.

"This could be a good start. You can treat this as the beginning of your relationship. As for how to keep her, that might depend on the actual situation. You can tell me some details about your past interactions."

Maya was grateful she was a woman, as she had a better understanding of female psychology in relationships.

But unexpectedly, when she offered her suggestion, Charles began to reject it, "No need, Dr. Garcia. I know what to do. Thank you for taking my call."

Maya saw him starting to shut down again and wanted to say a few more words, but the line went dead.

She sighed. She had been providing psychological counseling to Charles for four years.

Charles was unique. Describing him as powerful and influential was fitting.

Besides that, his emotions during treatment were eerily calm. Even when experiencing hallucinations, he remained composed, like a programmed robot.

Recalling what Charles had just said, Maya felt he might be heading towards another extreme.

His relationship with his parents was distant. Under the pressure of his work, he was mentally strained, lacking social interactions and time for romance.

From a professional standpoint, patients like him, who had high and strict self-expectations, were used to constantly pressuring themselves, avoiding social interactions, and developing a cold and solitary personality.

But this wasn't a psychological issue that required extensive treatment. The most pressing issue for Charles was how he dealt with emotions.

His way of expressing love was extreme, almost childlike—like a child who, to keep a bird, would choose to break its wings.

Maya scratched her disheveled hair, lay back down, and decided to schedule an in-person session with Charles next time.

When Charles returned to The Percy Mansion, it was a week later.

Initially, Diana felt uneasy staying at The Percy Mansion, but with him not returning, she gradually relaxed.

However, she noticed the security had tightened. Whenever she wanted to go out, a driver and a bodyguard accompanied her.

Running away with Benjamin was out of the question. Even escaping alone seemed difficult.

Because of this, Diana had to rethink her plans.

Charles returned one afternoon, his Maybach quietly pulling into the estate, unnoticed by anyone.

Diana and Benjamin had just finished lunch and were playing with Snowy.

She was surprised that the puppy she had adopted hadn't been discarded by Charles but had grown so much.

But soon, she was charmed by Snowy's lively and adorable nature.

At the moment, she and Benjamin were dressing up the dog.

Jacob watched them play, a kind smile on his face.

The last child he had cared for was Charles when he was young.

But Charles was different from ordinary children, always calm and quiet.

Benjamin was much more lively and cheerful.
