Chapter 298 Misunderstanding
This was way more frustrating than going through company reports, but Charles still managed to finish reading.
His thin lips were pressed tightly together, and his face was ice-cold.
Tessa couldn't help but ask, "Mr. Percy, are you okay?"
Seeing that Charles stayed silent, she took a few steps closer, tentatively reaching out a hand.
"Mr. Percy, don't be so mad. It's not worth it to mess up your health. You're young and successful, any woman would..."
Before her hand could touch Charles' back, he grabbed her arm and threw her to the ground.
The intense pain made Tessa feel like her bones were about to shatter. She had only wanted to offer some comfort, how did it come to this?
She clutched her arm and whimpered on the floor, looking up at Charles' face filled with disgust. She had to bite her lip to swallow the scream.
Charles looked down at her as if she were trash. His face was dark as he pulled a tissue from the table and meticulously wiped his hands.
When he was done, he tossed the tissue onto her and said coldly, "Get out."
His presence was so intimidating that Tessa didn't dare move until she heard those words.
She scrambled to the door, and just as she opened it, someone else was coming in.
Diana stood at the doorway, looking shocked at the scene, her hand still on the doorknob.
Tessa didn't care about anything else and shoved past her to escape this hellish place.
Diana was knocked against the wall, regaining her balance and her senses with the pain.
The room was a mess, and Charles stood amidst the chaos, his face dark.
His hair covered his eyes, making his expression unreadable, but it sent a chill down Diana's spine.
She swallowed and asked, "What happened? Did a burglar break in?"
Under different circumstances, this might have been a funny question.
But Charles couldn't hear anything. All he could see was her appearance today.
Her unstyled hair, white coat, and blue dress matched exactly what Eugene had described.
If everything at his feet was fake, then her date with another man today was definitely real.
It all pointed to one fact: she wasn't focused on him at all.
She wanted to leave, to run away!
Eugene had once said that having a child would keep a woman from leaving, that as a mother, she would always consider her child.
But Diana was never like that. She only thought about herself.
Seeing him silently staring at her, Diana was confused.
She casually hung up her coat and took a few steps forward to pick up a letter that was closest to her.
When she saw the name on the envelope, her eyes widened in shock, "What is this?"
The letters inside had already been opened by Charles. Diana didn't know their contents and could only search through the scattered papers on the floor.
But all she found were envelopes with her name on them.
They were just like the ones she had received that day. How did they end up in her room?
Charles took in her expression and let out a cold laugh, "You don't know what this is?"
He picked up a letter and read aloud, "Dear Diana, hope you're doing alright. I miss you..."
The content was very short, but reading it felt like an eternity.
Diana clenched her fists and interrupted, "Enough!"
"Enough? There's plenty more! Do you want me to read them all to you?"
"It's not like that, let me explain!" Diana's voice was urgent and sharp.
"I don't know who sent these. Even though it says Billy, it's really not him. You have to believe me, I promised you I wouldn't see him again."
The room fell silent for a moment. Diana's heart pounded. She knew that Charles' most hated person right now was Billy.
She wasn't stupid; she wouldn't repeatedly test his limits! If someone could send these things in, they could be traced.
Diana wanted to explain further, but Charles suddenly took a step forward, closing the distance between them.
In his right hand, he held a rose. It seemed to be a dried flower, fragile and ready to fall apart.
In the next second, Charles raised his hand and crushed the petals in his palm, letting the pieces fall onto Diana's hair.
His voice was cold, "A single rose, symbolizing the beginning and the only love. Your past relationship was really pure and flawless."
He finished with a mocking smile that looked sinister and terrifying.
Diana felt a chill in her heart, knowing that he hadn't listened to any of her explanations.
She closed her eyes and took a step forward, trying a different approach.
Her soft arms wrapped around his waist. Charles found it amusing to see her trying to be affectionate despite wanting to stay away.
He remained silent, his gaze fixed on her face, waiting to hear what lies she would come up with next.
"I don't know what you're talking about. These things have nothing to do with me or Billy. Really, please believe me."
Diana's eyelashes fluttered, and she gave him a pitiful, innocent look.
Charles' Adam's apple bobbed, his irritation growing.
He pulled her into his arms, his mouth close to her ear, whispering, "Then who did you meet today?"
His voice was gentle, but it sent Diana into a cold sweat. Her eyes widened, and she pulled her hands back, trying to break free.
But his grip on her waist was tight, forcing her to push against his chest to create some distance.
"Are you spying on me?"
This question didn't deny that she had met someone today; it shifted the blame onto him.
Charles chuckled, "You secretly meet other men and don't even try to hide it from me?"
"It was just a friend, don't overthink it!"
Diana's mind raced, filled with thoughts of "What if Dean gets found out?" She couldn't focus on the current situation.
"Is it a friend you hug when you meet? A friend you spend time alone with in a room?"
As he spoke, he lowered his head, his lips brushing her neck, his eyes searching for any suspicious marks.
Diana was both scared and shocked, instinctively pushing his head away, "No!"
How did he know? There was no one following her, and the place they met had great privacy.
Dean was fully covered, and she used her name for the reservation. How did he find out?
"You say these letters don't prove your secret relationship, but how do you explain meeting him?"
Charles' voice was low, his anger almost visible in his eyes. He grabbed Diana's arms, squeezing them painfully.
"Wait, you think I met Billy?"
Diana's expression changed, surprised.
Not Dean? Did he figure it out or not? How did it turn into her meeting Billy?
Ignoring the pain, Diana realized the situation. Charles had misunderstood.
He saw the letters and assumed she met Billy.
Good news, Dean wasn't exposed.
Bad news, she might be done for.
"Is there another man besides him?"
