Chapter 434 Understanding

Diana followed his finger and looked over. On the crib's railing, two letters were carved.

"What is this?"

Her voice was hesitant as she reached out to touch it. She hadn't noticed any carvings when she and Charles assembled it.

Benjamin pouted and explained, "He carved it after you left, Mommy. Those letters are the initials of your names."

As he spoke, he leaned his fluffy head closer, his expression becoming more serious.

"Mommy, I think he likes you. And he doesn't hate me as much as Dean says."

Benjamin pressed his small hand into the crib, which was lined with a soft blanket, as if he had really slept there.

Diana understood his meaning and her expression grew serious.

All along, Dean had only ever told Benjamin about the bad side of Charles. Mostly about how he abandoned his family.

Dean genuinely hated Charles and didn't want Benjamin to have any expectations of this stranger.

But the truth was far more cruel than words could express.

Diana had sensed that Charles liked her back then.

But his affection was too obsessive, like a starving vampire craving fresh blood.

When she was with Charles, Diana never felt respected.

Forget about the carvings; Charles had even opened her coffin once. His possessiveness was like a venomous snake, something no normal person would have.

He was a madman.

That was Diana's most honest assessment of Charles.

Now, with Benjamin presenting this fact to her, she had to face it. She respected Benjamin's thoughts but wouldn't compromise herself.

Diana crouched down to look Benjamin in the eye, her gaze serious.

"Benjamin, I rarely talk to you about him. It's not that I want to hide things from you; I just don't want to face those memories. You're still young. When you grow up, I'll tell you everything. For now, just remember that no one can separate us. I love you very much."

Her eyes began to sting with tears.

Benjamin had been so well-behaved even in her womb, hardly causing her any discomfort during pregnancy.

This strong little life had accompanied her through countless days and nights, and now he had grown so much.

She fought back her emotions, her voice choked, "If you want to stay with him, then stay. I'll find a way to visit you, and Dean will protect you secretly. I respect..."

Before she could finish, Benjamin cupped her face with his warm little hands, his tone urgent.

"Mommy, what are you talking about? I don't want to be separated from you. I wasn't saying I wanted to stay. It's just..."

Benjamin's eyes flickered with sadness as he took a deep breath and slowed his speech.

"I used to think I was an unwanted child, and that's why you were abandoned. I thought I was the reason you suffered. But now I know that's not true. I was wanted by both my parents, and that makes me really happy! Really, really happy!"

As soon as he finished speaking, Diana pulled him into her arms, tears streaming down her face and soaking into her clothes.

She hadn't realized Benjamin felt this way.

She blamed herself for being too busy with work to notice, leading him to self-doubt.

Diana apologized, "I'm sorry, it's my fault. Benjamin, you're a gift from God, and I will always love you."

Benjamin rested his chin on Diana's shoulder, feeling content, and continued, "I never wanted to stay. Even though he's not bad to me, he can be really annoying. He's not as good to me as Dean is. Besides, if he had treated you well, you wouldn't have left with me."

Benjamin didn't know the whole story, but he trusted his mother's character.

As for Charles, his unpredictable attitude deserved no love.

But considering Charles had protected him before, Benjamin thought he might show some mercy and put Charles in a nursing home when he was old and alone.

Benjamin patted Diana's back, "Alright, Mommy, let's go. We don't want Mr. Hearst to see us."

Diana snapped back to reality, quickly wiped her tears, stood up, and playfully flicked Benjamin's forehead, "You little rascal, this is all your doing."

Benjamin covered his forehead, pretending to be in pain, but he held back his laughter, afraid of really upsetting Diana. He quickly shut his mouth and blinked innocently.

They hurried out of the nursery, and Benjamin locked the door as if nothing had happened.

Downstairs, Jacob had just arranged the car and security when he saw them coming down.

He smiled, "Benjamin, Ms. Wipere, everything is ready. When would you like to leave?"

Diana's eyes were still a bit red. To avoid suspicion, she pretended to yawn and rubbed her eyes, "Now, let's go early so we can come back early. I need to sleep."

"Alright, this way please."

Jacob gestured for them to follow and escorted them to the car.

Diana noticed that, as usual, there were two men in black sitting in the driver and passenger seats.

They nodded at her through the rearview mirror once she and Benjamin were seated.

Jacob had already informed the men of their destination, so the ride was silent.

Diana and Benjamin exchanged a look, both seeing the determination in each other's eyes.

An hour later, the car stopped at the amusement park entrance.

It was the weekend, and the park was crowded with singles and families alike.

Inside, the two men in black followed them at a distance.

Despite their low-key attire, their intimidating presence made many people avoid them.

"Mommy, let's go to the haunted house. We can lose them there."

Benjamin whispered his suggestion.

Diana looked up. The haunted house was right in front of them, with staff wearing scary masks and blood-stained clothes, creating a perfect atmosphere.

But would they be afraid of ghosts?

With this doubt, Diana decided to give it a try.

She didn't want to use "that thing" unless absolutely necessary.

"Alright, let's check it out."

"Welcome to the real-life horror maze, start your thrilling journey..."

The staff member wearing the scary mask was a girl. Her sweet voice contrasted sharply with her appearance.

Seeing Diana about to take Benjamin inside, she changed her tone and advised, "Ma'am, our maze is horror-themed. It's not suitable for young children; it might give them psychological trauma."

Benjamin squeezed Diana's hand, stepped forward confidently, and replied, "It's okay. I'm a materialist; I don't believe in ghosts!"
