Chapter 465 Uninvited Guest
Diana and Robert froze at the sound.
They turned to see someone in a beret and sunglasses, their mouth hidden behind a mask.
No one else would be so covered up except for that celebrity.
Diana couldn't be bothered to argue and turned back to continue her conversation with Robert.
She didn't expect Stella to suddenly rip off her hat and sunglasses, shouting, "Hey! Are you pretending you can't hear me?"
Diana was shocked by her boldness in public, but looking around, she realized the café was now empty except for their table.
Clearly, Stella had orchestrated this.
Robert, who didn't know her, was visibly annoyed by her attitude.
He adjusted his gold-rimmed glasses and said sternly, "Miss, watch your tone. I'm a lawyer, and if you keep this up, I can sue you for harassment."
Of course, the last part was just to scare her.
Stella ignored his threat, her eyes fixed on Diana's hand.
Even though Diana quickly withdrew her hand, it was too late.
Diana and Robert hadn't been following the news, but Stella was well aware.
Recently, an international auction house had put up a ring for sale.
Typically, this ring would be auctioned off with other jewelry as a set.
But over time, the set had been scattered, and even its famous designer, Owen Mitchell, had been dead for nearly a century.
The ring, named True Love, was created by Owen during a passionate romance, themed around love.
Rumor had it that the ring was blessed to bring lifelong happiness to its wearer.
Auction houses often exaggerated the significance of such items to please the bidders.
No one expected the ring, with a starting bid of $5 million, to sell for an astronomical price.
A jeweler from Windcrest and a mysterious bidder from the Rainbow Federation had fiercely competed for it.
The bidding war was intense, with each bid immediately countered by the other.
In the end, the ring sold for $150 million, far exceeding the auction's highlight piece.
The news didn't stir much reaction among the elite.
But the general public, who had never seen a ring worth over a hundred million dollars, was abuzz with curiosity about the buyer.
The first person they ruled out was Charles.
Everyone knew that while Charles was handsome and wealthy, his love life was a mess.
So, Stella was stunned to see Diana wearing True Love.
Especially since she had just overheard Diana mention she was married.
So, True Love was a wedding ring.
Realizing the truth, Stella nearly fainted, her body swaying as if she might collapse.
She had worked so hard for so many years, only to be outdone by Diana in a few months.
"You got married? How is that possible? You're faking it. Charles would never marry you. You must be in a sham marriage. It's all fake!"
Stella's face twisted with anger, her words becoming increasingly irrational.
If not for the table between them and the bodyguard behind Diana, she might have lunged at Diana.
After previous encounters with Stella, Diana had no patience left for her.
Diana had once thought Stella was just a confused young woman, but now she realized they were all adults, and there was no need to coddle her.
Robert kept a close eye on Stella, ready to step in if she made any aggressive moves.
Diana wanted to take a sip of coffee but remembered she hadn't ordered anything yet, so she called for the waiter.
The waiter approached with his head down, avoiding eye contact.
Stella had cleared the café upon arrival, and now the tension between the few remaining people suggested a conflict.
But the owner had said as long as no one got seriously hurt, they could do as they pleased. Stella had paid enough to cover any damages.
"An iced Americano, please," Diana said.
She had no intention of ordering anything for Stella and waved the waiter away after placing her order.
Diana's nonchalant attitude further infuriated Stella, who screeched, "Are you ignoring me, Diana?"
Finally addressed, Diana looked up at her.
She gave Stella a once-over and said, "You know who I am. What's the point of arguing with me? If you have time, go find Charles. Don't you like him?"
What an idiot.
Diana held back from calling her that. If Stella had any sense, she'd be trying to win over Charles.
Diana wasn't Charles' mother; she couldn't control who he married.
But to Stella, Diana's words were a provocation.
She stepped forward and sat down across from Diana, pushing Robert aside.
The atmosphere grew tense.
Robert, now squeezed to the side, looked at her like she was crazy.
He quickly moved his coffee away, anticipating it might be thrown in someone's face during the argument.
"What do you want? I'll give you anything if you leave Charles," Stella hissed through gritted teeth.
Diana wasn't sure if the bodyguard could hear their conversation, so she replied dismissively, "Do you not understand what I'm saying? I told you I can't control Charles. If you can take me away from him, be my guest."
If Stella had been smarter, she might have realized Diana wasn't happy being with Charles.
But her mind was clouded with anger. Just seeing Diana reminded her that she had only stayed by Charles' side for four years because she resembled Diana.
She had once thought Diana was truly dead, feeling both sympathy and relief.
Sympathy for Diana dying when Charles loved her most, and relief at her own good fortune.
But now that Diana was back, all sympathy vanished, replaced by a burning hatred.
Why hadn't Diana just stayed dead?
If Diana knew what Stella was thinking, she might have slapped her to snap her out of it.
But she felt a twinge of pity and simply pursed her lips, then raised her voice, "Bodyguard, please escort this lady out. She's interrupting my conversation with a friend."
The bodyguard, who had been standing by for a long time, finally stepped in.
He approached quickly and politely gestured, "Miss, please leave. Otherwise, I'll have to use force."
He was broad and muscular, nearly twice Stella's size.
Seeing the situation, Stella bit her lip, her face flushed with anger.
At that moment, the waiter brought Diana's coffee.
As she reached for it, the ring on her finger caught the light, dazzlingly bright.
The bodyguard took a step closer, his presence even more imposing. "Miss..."
Before he could finish, Stella flipped her hair and stormed out, slamming the café door behind her with surprising force.
