Chapter 85 Stakeout
Since the company was broke, borrowing a bit from these two seemed like a good idea. Plus, Diana was so capable that with a little working capital, she could pay it back in no time.
Diana shook her head. Isolde and Billy couldn't know about this. If they did, they'd definitely try to help her out. But with Charles suppressing the Spencer Group, no one could stop it. No one could help, and it would just cause more trouble for them.
Isolde had just taken over the Porter Group, and her position there was still shaky, so she couldn't get involved. And Billy? Forget it. With Vance still around, it was out of the question. The last charity gala at Harmony Haven Estate was all about showing goodwill to Charles. No way Billy would risk the future of the Richardson Group for a stranger.
Diana closed her eyes and gave herself a pep talk. "It's okay. I'll go talk to Charles. There's always a way."
Seeing Evelyn's worried face, Diana added, "Really, it's okay. I'll talk to Isolde and Billy. If things don't work out, they can come to save me. And when Robert comes back, tell him I went to the Percy Group, so he doesn't worry."
Evelyn reluctantly nodded, watching Diana go upstairs to change clothes.
Diana left the house and first contacted Nolan. Luckily, Nolan didn't have the habit of deleting contacts, so the message went through smoothly.
Diana: [Nolan, I want to meet with Mr. Percy. Please help me pass the message.]
When Nolan got the message, he wasn't surprised. He didn't want to bother Charles and was going to refuse, but he didn't want a repeat of the last charity gala incident. So, he reported it.
Charles stared at the document in his hand, his expression cold. "I won't see her. Tell her to get lost."
Diana waited a long time before getting Nolan's reply.
Nolan: [Mr. Percy said he won't see you and told you to get lost.]
He relayed the message without any reservation. Fine, that was totally in line with Charles's character. Diana gripped her phone tightly, closed her eyes, and thought deeply. To succeed, she had to be a bit shameless.
'Since he doesn't want to see me, I'll wait until he does. He said he wanted to bankrupt the Spencer Group before, and even though he didn't want to see me then, I still found a way,' she thought.
Diana encouraged herself, her gaze becoming determined. But this time, she didn't have the same luck. Her access to the parking lot was revoked, so she couldn't get in. The company's receptionist recognized her and called security to throw her out.
Diana seemed abandoned by the whole world, squatting at the entrance for a long time. Her hands were frozen stiff, but she kept pestering Nolan.
Diana: [Nolan, I'm begging you. Let me see Mr. Percy. I'm here to apologize.]
Diana: [If you let me in, I can promise you one condition.]
Diana: [Nolan, you better pray I never succeed in this life, or I will make you regret it.]
But no matter how Diana threatened or bribed, Nolan ignored her. Diana sent so many messages that Nolan simply blocked her. Seeing her messages couldn't go through, Diana took a deep breath in anger but ended up sneezing hard.
She stood up and decided to wait at the coffee shop across the street. In the company, upstairs, Charles stood by the floor-to-ceiling window, watching the small white figure move to the coffee shop. He sneered and returned to his seat.
But he underestimated Diana's determination. For five straight days, she came to the Percy Group every morning. After being thrown out, she squatted at the entrance for a while and spent the rest of the time in the coffee shop. The company's security and receptionists had gotten used to Diana's antics. Sometimes, when they saw her coming, they'd just wave her off.
Luckily, Diana played along. Usually, when she saw them making that gesture, she'd leave on her own, saving them the hassle. She knew that even though she couldn't get into the company, Charles was definitely watching her from somewhere.
She still didn't know what exactly had ticked Charles off, but she had to show she was genuinely sorry. These days, she couldn't sleep well or eat properly. She was constantly trying to guess Charles's thoughts, and she'd lost a lot of weight.
The negative news about the Spencer Group kept popping up online. Just when one or two rumors were cleared up, more would surface.
Even Billy and Isolde noticed something was off, but Diana insisted it was just competitors stirring up trouble and didn't tell them the truth, so they didn't push further. Billy also kept things from Diana. The Richardson Group's cooperation with the Percy Group had been completely cut off.
If it weren't for the Richardson Group's strong foundation, it would've been a big hit. Billy knew this was Charles's way of warning him, but if he couldn't handle this, he could forget about marrying Diana. So, both of them were busy with their own tasks while trying to reassure each other.
If Charles knew that the pressure he applied was actually bringing Diana and Billy closer, he'd probably be really pissed.
Today was the sixth day, and the receptionist and security didn't see Diana around, feeling a bit off. Not only were they unaccustomed, but Charles upstairs also frowned, muttering to himself, "Did she give up so quickly?"
He said this, but he was visibly unhappy all day. Even Abigail, who was usually pretty oblivious, noticed and quietly asked Nolan, "Nolan, what's up with Mr. Percy? Who ticked him off?"
Nolan nodded, not saying it directly but agreeing with Abigail's words, "Be careful while working. He's in a bad mood and finds everyone annoying."
Abigail nodded, her work attitude becoming even more serious. Before they could part ways, Charles suddenly came out of his office, his face dark and his steps hurried. He passed by them, heading downstairs.
Nolan quickly reacted, jogging to catch up. "Mr. Percy, are you going out? Need me to drive for you?"
Charles entered the elevator, quickly pressing the close button with one hand, and replied, "No need."
Nolan also breathed a sigh of relief. If he didn't need him, that was good. Seeing Charles like this, Nolan felt it was definitely not a good thing. But the next second, Nolan started to worry again. If Charles went crazy and did something drastic, he'd have to clean up the mess. He hoped everything would go smoothly.
Charles anxiously glanced at his watch. Two minutes ago, a call came from the Percy Mansion. On the phone, Jacob's voice was hesitant. "Mr. Percy, that woman is at the door now. Should we have her removed?"
Charles frowned, not understanding what he was talking about. "What woman?" Then he realized and asked, "Diana?"
Charles had previously forbidden mentioning Diana at home, so Jacob didn't say it directly. "Yes, Mr. Percy. She came early this morning and has been at the door for two hours. But she doesn't seem to want to come in. I was worried you might come home today, so I wondered if we should remove her?"
Charles was silent for a moment and then replied, "Ignore her."
"Okay, Mr. Percy." Jacob felt relieved after hearing this and hung up the phone.
Charles, however, smirked. He had underestimated Diana's determination. 'She couldn't see me at the company, so she went to my home? But it is time to see her and see what tricks she can play.'
