Chapter 119 Stay
Diana was on the attack, and Nolan, who was nearby, started sweating bullets. No one had ever dared to talk to Charles like that.
Diana was pregnant now, probably thinking she could use the kid to get a grip on the Percy Family.
Charles stayed silent, his eyes showing a flicker of something.
Logically, he should be pissed since Diana was carrying his kid, and she wasn't exactly worthy in his eyes.
But when Diana threw those words at him, Charles lost his cool.
"This kid is mine. Its fate isn't yours to decide," Charles said coldly, trying to squash the weird feeling in his chest.
"Is that so?" Diana smirked, her once beautiful face now looking fierce.
In the next moment, her expression darkened. She shook off Charles' hand and bolted.
In no time, Diana was at the window, one leg out, making both Charles and Nolan freak out.
"Diana, what are you doing?" Charles demanded.
"Making you realize whose hands this kid's life is really in!" Diana shot back.
It was the second floor; Diana wouldn't die from the fall, but the kid's fate was up in the air.
Nolan was scared out of his mind and tried to calm her down, "Ms. Spencer, don't do anything crazy. We won't hurt you. Please come back!"
Charles, however, stayed put and said in a low voice, "Diana! I don't care about your life, but are you sure you have nothing left to live for in this world?"
Diana hesitated.
Seeing his words hit the mark, Charles took a big step forward and continued, "Don't forget about that servant at your house, and that lawyer. Ms. Porter is pretty close to you, right?"
Charles got closer, and Diana clung to the window frame, too scared to move.
She wasn't afraid of dying, and she didn't care about the kid's life.
But Evelyn and Robert were like family to her.
Diana didn't want them to suffer because of her.
Charles finally reached her, pulling her back with one hand.
Diana fell into Charles' arms, listening to the resonance from his chest, her ears tingling slightly. "Be good."
Charles calmly stroked the ends of Diana's hair, like he was trying to calm her down.
But Diana felt like her arm was about to snap from his grip.
The next second, Charles pulled her out of his arms and told Nolan, "Take her back and make sure the family doctor looks after her."
Nolan nodded respectfully, signaling Diana to follow him.
Diana didn't move.
Charles said in a low voice, "Your actions affect the future, even the lives, of your friends."
"Bastard." Diana gritted her teeth, forced by the threat to follow Nolan.
Charles watched them leave, feeling all kinds of conflicted and needing some advice.
So Charles took out his phone and made a call.
Meanwhile, Eugene was taking a bath and was naturally excited to get a call from Charles.
Charles rarely called Eugene out of the blue, maybe once a year tops.
Eugene picked up, his tone as annoyingly chipper as ever. "Hey Charles, what's up? Miss me or something?"
"Where are you?"
Eugene immediately sensed something was off. Normally, Charles would be grossed out by his tone, curse a bit, and then get down to business. But now, he just asked where he was.
Realizing it might be serious, Eugene's face turned serious too. "I'm at the apartment. What's going on? Why the rush?"
Charles didn't answer and just hung up.
Eugene stared at his phone, baffled. Whether Charles was coming over to chat or to beat him up, he had to get ready.
So, he ditched his comfy bubble bath and quickly got dressed.
By the time Charles arrived, Eugene was already sitting seriously on the couch.
Charles's expression looked the same as usual, but if one looked closely, a hint of impatience could be detected.
Seeing Charles stay silent, Eugene couldn't help but ask, "Dude, what's with the silent treatment? Are you trying to kill me with suspense? What happened?"
Charles picked up a glass of water, took a sip, and stared directly at Eugene without saying a word.
Eugene felt a chill under Charles' gaze and started guessing. "Did a business partner back out?"
Obviously not, only the Percy Group backed out on others.
"Bankruptcy?"
Even more impossible, even if the Bailey Family went bankrupt, Charles wouldn't.
"Fell in love with a woman?" When Eugene said this, Charles turned his head, looking dazed.
Seeing Charles like this, Eugene immediately got it.
So Charles had a new love interest, no wonder he seemed so hesitant and silent.
Eugene grinned teasingly, patting Charles on the shoulder. "Who would have thought, Mr. Percy, that you would be troubled by love? Spill it, who's the lucky lady? Let me, the love guru, give you some tips!"
"I'm going to be a father."
"Being a father is great, being a father... Wait, what? Whose father? Who's pregnant with your kid?" Eugene was floored. He thought with Charles' personality, he'd never marry or have kids.
But now, without any hint of him getting close to a woman, he already had a kid on the way.
Charles looked indifferent, like he wasn't the one about to be a dad. "Diana, she's pregnant. Got pregnant the day we divorced."
"Hold up!" Eugene raised his hand, his brain racing to process the bombshell.
"Diana's pregnant with your kid? You two had sex on the day you got divorced? No, that's not the point." Eugene shifted gears. "If that's the case, then that kid is the future heir of the Percy Family? Charles, are you going to keep it?"
Eugene dropped his usual playful tone, sounding unusually serious.
Charles thought for a moment. He hadn't planned on having a kid; it was a total surprise.
But if he claimed the kid, the Percys wouldn't dare question it, and no one would doubt the kid's place as his heir.
"My kid, of course, I'm keeping it," Charles said firmly.
