Chapter 526 Video Call
Nolan nodded and reminded Charles, "Mr. Percy, Eugene's your buddy. You can ask him anything."
With Charles watching, the two left the hospital room.
The room fell silent again, and Charles started piecing together the information he had just received.
It was a mess, but he managed to reconstruct some of the memories he had lost over the years.
The more he thought about it, the more his head hurt, and before long, he drifted back into a hazy sleep.
---
The Percy Group.
In the conference room, the shareholders were gathered again, looking puzzled.
One of them couldn't help but ask Zachary, who was seated at the head of the table, "Zachary, why'd you call us here so early? I haven't even had breakfast yet."
Seeing the growing discontent, Zachary chuckled lightly, "Everyone, please be patient. Let's wait for Diana. She'll be here soon, and it's better if she makes the announcement herself."
Diana had been managing the Percy Group efficiently lately, and even those shareholders who had been skeptical of her were starting to see her in a more favorable light.
Hearing Zachary's words, they speculated that Diana had something important to say.
After another ten minutes, Diana and Nolan finally arrived. "Ms. Spencer, making us old folks wait so long," one shareholder couldn't resist a sarcastic remark.
The others murmured in agreement, clearly displeased with her tardiness.
"Everyone, this meeting wasn't called by me. If you have questions, direct them to Zachary. What's going on?"
Diana said, her tone firm despite her hurried appearance from the hospital.
Zachary, unfazed by her directness, smiled and tapped his fingers on the table. "Diana, I'm doing this for you."
"Zachary, my time is valuable. If you have something to say, get to the point," Diana replied, her patience wearing thin.
"My brother has woken up. Why didn't you inform us of such a significant event?" Zachary's smile faded as he questioned Diana seriously.
The other shareholders, upon hearing this, also began to ask questions.
"Charles is awake? How is he?"
"Diana, why didn't you announce this? Weren't you supposed to step down once he woke up? Are you going back on your word?"
"Can we visit him in the hospital now?"
Most of the shareholders had their own agendas, with only a few genuinely concerned about Charles.
Diana raised her eyes slightly. Charles had only woken up the previous night, and very few people knew about it.
She had suspected that the attempt on Charles' life was orchestrated by Zachary, and his words today confirmed her suspicions.
"Everyone," she raised her voice to quiet the room, "Charles did wake up last night. The news came suddenly, and I didn't have time to inform everyone. There was no intention to hide it. As I said before, once Charles recovers, I will step down. There's no need for certain people to worry."
"Diana, my brother's a workaholic. If he's awake and can talk, he'll want to handle company matters. How about we have him join a video conference?"
Zachary suggested, holding a file, clearly intent on verifying the situation.
He was furious inside, knowing his attempt to eliminate Charles had failed, but he maintained a facade of concern.
"Even if we can't visit, a video call would suffice," another shareholder agreed.
"Yeah, why can't we see him? Zachary, have you seen him?" This question played right into Zachary's hands.
He feigned frustration, "I want to see my brother too, but Diana is keeping him well-hidden. Maybe it's out of deep affection."
"Deep affection? More like she's taking the opportunity to seize control of the company!" an elderly shareholder from Elise's faction scoffed. He was over sixty but still sharp and energetic.
Diana narrowed her eyes. She had researched these shareholders and knew this one had no promising successors, forcing him to hold onto his position.
What an old bastard, she thought, listening silently as the comments grew more outrageous.
"Quiet!" Nolan's voice boomed, silencing the room.
With Charles' memory loss, Nolan knew he had to support Diana and not let the shareholders intimidate her.
Diana spoke again, "I understand your concern for Charles, but there's something else you should know."
She paused, glancing at Zachary, "Charles' injury wasn't an accident. It was an attempted murder."
The shareholders were shocked, though some seemed unsurprised.
After all, anyone in Charles' position would have enemies, both outside and within the company.
Diana continued, "He's lucky to be alive, and he won't be returning to work anytime soon. I will manage the company in his absence and cooperate with the police to find the culprit."
"As for your concerns, I don't care. Charles is still in the hospital and not ready for visitors..."
She was interrupted by Nolan, who showed her a video call from Charles on his screen. They exchanged a look, quickly understanding each other.
Diana cleared her throat and shifted her tone, "But Charles is touched by your concern. So, as you wish, you can now have a video conference with him."
The previously vocal shareholder fell silent as Nolan connected the call and projected it onto the screen.
The shareholders saw Charles, noticeably thinner and paler, yet still exuding authority even in his hospital gown. His gaze seemed to pierce through the screen.
"Thank you all for your concern," Charles said.
"Of course, Mr. Percy. How are you feeling?"
"Take care of yourself, Mr. Percy."
Nolan aimed the camera at the shareholders, and Charles, seeing their chatter, frowned slightly.
"In my absence, my wife will act on my behalf. If anyone has objections..."
