Chapter 159 Fetal Heartbeat
Evelyn saw Diana being taken away and tried to catch up, but Nolan grabbed her.
He had a phone in one hand and held Evelyn back with the other. "Get to the ultrasound room on the third floor now," he said. "There's trouble here."
Nolan hung up and glared at Ursa and Otto. "You better leave now, or it won't be pretty when security gets here."
He only gave this warning because Ursa was pregnant.
Ursa twisted, showing her slightly swollen belly. "Who do you think you are? Do you own this hospital? Why should I leave? And that woman, why is she running away? Seducing my husband and then asking for your help?"
Evelyn was annoyed. "What nonsense are you talking about? It's ridiculous. Even if all the men in the world were gone, Ms. Spencer wouldn't be interested in him. You're the only one who thinks he's a treasure."
Nolan was surprised. He remembered Evelyn as timid, but now she was speaking so harshly that everyone was stunned.
Security arrived and bowed respectfully to Nolan. "Mr. Smith, who's causing trouble?"
Nolan pointed at Ursa and Otto. "Throw them out and don't let them back in."
The guards restrained them.
Ursa struggled and shouted, "What are you doing? We're patients, we paid to be here. Why are you kicking us out?"
Nolan raised an eyebrow. "This hospital is owned by my boss. He doesn't like you, so get out."
"Who's your boss? How dare he treat us like this? Let go of my wife!" Otto yelled, kicking and punching the guards.
"My boss's last name is Percy. If you have a problem, sue him," Nolan said calmly.
Otto stopped struggling, his eyes wide with fear. "Charles Percy?"
Nolan nodded with a smile, thinking about how Charles' name always worked wonders.
Otto's eyes widened, and he immediately apologized. "I'm sorry. We didn't know that was Mrs. Percy. It's all our fault. Please ask Mr. Percy to forgive us."
He pulled Ursa's arm, his voice trembling. "We'll leave now, no need to trouble the security."
Ursa was dragged into the elevator and finally broke free. "What are you doing? Let go of me!" she shouted, angry and confused.
Otto's expression turned fierce. "Do you know who that was? The president of the Percy Group. If we offend him, we can't stay in Evergreen City!"
Ursa quieted down, holding her belly. She let Otto drag her away, realizing they had encountered a big shot.
Meanwhile, Diana was taken to an empty hospital room by Charles. They stared at each other, both looking unhappy.
Charles's face was dark, his tone cold. "What do you mean by 'your husband is dead'?"
Diana blinked innocently. "Mr. Percy, do you actually care about that? You can also say your wife is dead. Let's call it even." She wore a polite, fake smile.
Charles's lips curled into a cold smile. The next second, Diana felt dizzy. She was pressed onto the hospital bed and cried out, "Charles, what are you doing?"
Charles pinned Diana's hands above her head with one hand and grabbed her chin with the other, gently rubbing it.
"Why couldn't you just wait for me? Do you have to flirt with others when I'm not around?" he said, tightening his grip on her chin and forcing her to look into his eyes.
Charles had a prominent nose and deep-set eyes that seemed to draw people in. Even though she was the only one present, Diana couldn't help but feel the magnetic pull of his gaze. They were very close, their breaths mingling.
Diana frowned and turned her head away. "What nonsense are you talking about? I'm not that desperate."
Just as Charles was about to speak, there was a knock on the door. His grip loosened, and Diana pushed him away.
"Who is it?" he asked, clearly annoyed at being interrupted.
Brenda peeked her head in and said softly, "Mr. Percy, Ms. Spencer's prenatal checkup isn't finished yet. She needs to go for an ultrasound."
Before Charles could respond, Diana walked out of the room without a word.
Seeing Charles still standing there, Brenda continued, "Mr. Percy, you should come too. The baby will be happy to see their father."
Maybe her words got to him because his dark expression softened a bit. "Let's go," he said in a low voice.
Brenda watched them leave and breathed a sigh of relief, clutching her chest. She was glad she arrived in time; the two of them almost started arguing again.
Diana walked back to the ultrasound room, and Evelyn hurriedly approached her, concern etched on her face.
"Ms. Spencer, are you okay? Did Mr. Percy..."
But before she could finish, Charles appeared behind Diana. Evelyn quickly fell silent, avoiding his gaze.
Diana didn't notice and held Evelyn's hand, reassuring her, "I'm fine."
At that moment, Brenda hurriedly caught up and waved to Diana, "Mr. Percy, Ms. Spencer. You can go in now, I've arranged everything with the nurse."
Hearing Brenda also call Charles, Diana frowned impatiently. But she couldn't escape now, so she took a deep breath and walked into the ultrasound room without looking around.
Inside the ultrasound room, a young nurse eagerly led Diana to the bed.
"Ms. Spencer, please lie here. You'll need to roll up your clothes to expose your belly for the examination."
Diana nodded and obediently lay down on the bed.
Once she was settled, Brenda walked to her side and said to Charles, "Mr. Percy, you can sit over there."
Charles nodded slightly and sat down, his eyes fixed on Diana.
Brenda rolled up Diana's clothes, exposing her flat belly.
Although Diana had gained some weight recently, her pregnancy was still early, so her belly wasn't very noticeable.
After all the preparations were done, Brenda placed the probe on her belly and slowly moved it.
"Look, that's the baby."
Following Brenda's words, both of their gazes fell on the screen.
The image was gray and white, with a small figure faintly visible in the middle, already distinguishable as a head. Two little hands were clenched into fists by the face, and the legs were curled up, very quiet.
For some reason, Diana felt a sudden tremor in her heart as she looked at the image. This was the first time she truly felt the presence of a little being inside her. He was usually so quiet that it was easy to forget he was there.
To give them a clearer view, Brenda moved the probe to the side of her belly, "Ms. Spencer, look, the baby's nose is very high. Like..."
She trailed off, but her gaze lingered on Charles for a moment. It was a clear hint that the baby's nose resembled his.
