Chapter 290 New Plan
Claire had just made up an excuse, not expecting Abigail to seriously try to find a solution for her.
She was taken aback for a moment, then smiled and asked, "What solution?"
"Badmouthing the boss behind their back! When I'm stressed, I just curse the boss! Damn capitalists, always exploiting us workers!"
Abigail ranted for a bit before realizing that Claire was close friends with Charles.
She mentally kicked herself for being so careless and quickly corrected herself, "Oh, I don't mean Mr. Percy. My direct supervisor is Mr. Smith. He piles on the work, so I have to vent about him."
As she spoke, she couldn't help but add, "But lately, it's been a bit better. As long as Mr. Percy isn't targeting the Richardson Group, we can all relax a bit."
Claire suddenly asked, "Are you saying we've been targeting the Richardson Group?"
Abigail took a sip of water and nodded, "Yeah, you probably didn't know since you weren't handling that part. But recently, Mr. Percy seems to have realized it's tough to suppress the Richardson Group, so he gave up."
What she said wasn't exactly a trade secret.
Many in the industry knew, especially those doing business with the Richardson Group and the Percy Group. They had been on edge, fearing the conflict would affect them.
Claire's eyes grew sharper.
Charles wasn't an impulsive person. Objectively, the Richardson Group's business didn't overlap much with the Percy Group's.
There was no need for Charles to go out of his way to take down the Richardson Group.
Unless there was another reason driving him to act irrationally.
Almost instantly, Claire recalled the scene at Vance's birthday party.
She couldn't be mistaken; there was definitely something between Billy and Diana that had made Charles so angry.
People are complicated creatures. They don't always cherish what they have, but once someone tries to take it, it becomes incredibly valuable.
So that's it. Diana was playing a strategic game.
She appeared to distance herself from Charles, but in reality, she was using Billy to make herself more desirable.
No matter who ended up with her, Diana wouldn't lose out. What a schemer, how shameless!
Claire finally connected the dots, a sly smile forming on her face. 'Since you like playing between two men, I'll give you a hand.'
Unaware of the chain reaction her casual comment had set off, Abigail screwed the cap back on her water bottle and raised an eyebrow at Claire.
"If there's nothing else, I'll get back to work. Standing around in the break room is pretty boring. If you're bored, you can take a walk. It's almost Christmas, and it's quite lively around here."
Claire composed herself and replied, "Sure."
The two of them left the break room one after the other.
Abigail quickly immersed herself in work, while Claire absentmindedly browsed the web, her fingers idly tapping the keyboard.
Her phone buzzed, lighting up with "Clara" on the screen, followed by a series of messages.
Claire quickly silenced her phone and opened the chat app.
Clara had sent a lot of messages, explaining her visit to The Percy Mansion today.
Claire hadn't thought much of Clara, considering her too foolish to be anything more than a nuisance to Diana.
But this time, Clara had brought good news.
Now they had an insider, making things much easier.
Her eyes brightened as she scrolled to the bottom and replied to Clara's last message.
Clara: [What do we do next?]
Claire: [Like you said, have that maid take good care of Diana.]
Clara quickly replied: [Are you nuts? That was just an excuse. Who wants to take care of her? I'd rather she just drop dead!]
Claire rolled her eyes, any admiration she had for Clara vanishing.
Claire: [Do you want the maid to poison her? Do you think Mr. Percy wouldn't figure out who was behind it? If you want to get caught, go ahead.]
Realizing she had spoken too rashly, Clara quickly apologized.
Clara: [Sorry, I wasn't thinking. I told you about this because I wanted to discuss it with you. You said you'd help me.]
Claire: [Of course, I already have a plan.]
Claire calmly sent her plan over.
Clara glanced at it and quickly replied: [Great! Let's do it! I'll contact them tomorrow.]
Seeing her eagerness, Claire smirked and closed her phone.
The plan she shared with Clara was simple.
With Diana under Charles' protection, she couldn't meet Billy.
One of them would surely get impatient.
Now that they had someone inside The Percy Mansion, they would use Tessa to bring Billy and Diana together.
Having an affair right under Charles' nose—this time, no matter how clever Diana was, she wouldn't escape.
Thinking of this, Claire's smile widened, and she even started humming a tune.
At The Percy Mansion.
Without Tessa supervising, Diana and Evelyn felt much more relaxed.
But they didn't just lounge around at home; they played outside with Snowy.
With Christmas approaching, the mansion's staff had started decorating, piling up colorful ornaments.
Diana and Evelyn squatted nearby, picking through the decorations with interest.
A nearby servant, with a gentle expression and a smile, said, "Go ahead and play. This is the first time the mansion is being decorated for Christmas. We bought a lot of ornaments. There's even a Christmas tree on the way."
Diana casually tied a snowflake ornament to Snowy's tail. The silly dog felt the weight on its tail and turned to look.
It started chasing its tail, looking comically cute.
Diana chuckled and asked, "The first time? You never decorated before?"
"That's right. Mr. Percy never celebrated holidays before. The mansion was always so quiet. Ms. Spencer, didn't you know?"
The servant's words made Diana pause, almost forgetting she had been married to Charles.
Seeing the servant's curious look, she quickly corrected herself, "I mean, even before we got married, he didn't celebrate? Why the sudden change this year?"
She smoothly diverted the conversation, and the servant scratched his head.
"I don't know. Jacob arranged it before he got sick. He said now that you and Mr. Percy are getting along, the mansion feels more lively. Celebrating together would be more festive."
"What nonsense! Ms. Spencer isn't getting along with him at all!"
Evelyn, who had been playing with the ornaments, frowned in annoyance.
Charles was clearly bullying Diana, so why did everyone else think they were getting along? Who was being brainwashed here?
The servant, taken aback by her rebuttal, weakly replied, "Jacob said it, not me."
With that, he left with a pile of decorations, not wanting to argue with Evelyn.
Diana patted Evelyn's shoulder, comforting her, "It's okay. At least we can spend Christmas together this year."
