Chapter 534 Family
Charles and Benjamin both turned to look at her simultaneously. Charles pressed his lips together.
"Are you coming back tonight?"
"Are you?" Benjamin echoed, their eyes sparkling with anticipation.
Even Snowy, sitting nearby, looked at Diana with the same hopeful expression.
For a moment, she couldn't help but think that she and Charles had switched roles. He was now the one waiting at home like a wife.
Quickly, Diana shook her head to clear the thought.
"Yeah, I'll be back."
With the sound of the car engine starting, Diana left the Percy Mansion.
Benjamin immediately sidled up to Charles, rubbing his chin and frowning as he stared at him.
His gaze was so direct, but Charles's expression remained neutral. He simply lifted his lips and asked,
"What's up?"
"Mr. Percy, do you really not remember me? Not even a little?"
Benjamin had never encountered such a situation before and couldn't help but want to confirm it again.
"No, I only remember things before I turned seventeen."
Charles answered truthfully. He didn't dislike Benjamin, but he was suspicious of his identity.
He had clearly forgotten about the investigation he had asked Nolan to conduct earlier.
"Alright."
Benjamin drew out the word, but quickly brightened up.
"It doesn't matter if you don't remember. We can get to know each other all over again. I'm Benjamin."
He extended his hand to Charles, and they shook hands politely.
Benjamin, like a happy little bird, pushed Charles's wheelchair around the mansion, introducing him to every servant they encountered.
After they had made a full round, Charles, who had been silent, finally spoke.
"I want to visit the cemetery."
Jacob's smile froze, and his expression turned worried.
"Mr. Percy, my condolences."
The atmosphere instantly became somber. Benjamin glanced between the two of them before speaking up.
"Mr. Percy, let's go together. I want to pay my respects too."
If Charles hadn't lost his memory, he would never have allowed Benjamin, who had no official status, to visit the cemetery.
But the current Charles didn't refuse, and after a bit of preparation, they all headed out.
-
The Percy Group, meeting room.
Billy signed his name on the document and then smiled.
"Looking forward to our cooperation."
Since their last meeting, the collaboration between Percy Group and Richardson Group had been progressing steadily.
Both companies' stocks had risen significantly, and the news of their partnership had shocked many in the industry.
No one had expected these two companies, who had been rivals for so long, to reconcile. It was quite rare.
However, some had different speculations about their cooperation...
Diana didn't care about the outside gossip. She politely shook hands with Billy.
Since they were friends, their cooperation was straightforward. Billy was a very perceptive person and never mixed personal matters with business.
Now that they were done, he invited,
"Ms. Spencer, would you like to join me for a cup of coffee?"
Abigail, standing nearby, felt her temples throb and glanced at Diana, who waved her off.
"No, I need to get home early today."
"Is it because of Charles?" Billy asked.
Diana didn't answer immediately. Instead, she sent Abigail out of the room. Once they were alone, she spoke.
"He was discharged from the hospital. I promised to get home early. Billy, if you have something to say, just say it here."
"I'd rather talk somewhere else."
This was the company, and there were too many eyes and ears around. Recently, rumors about their relationship from five years ago had been circulating.
He didn't want to make things difficult for Diana.
However, Diana didn't mind. There was nothing between them, and meeting outside would only seem suspicious.
"If you don't want to talk now, I'll leave. It was nice working with you."
She tugged at the corner of her mouth, as if about to turn and leave.
As expected, Billy quickly called her back.
"Wait, let's talk here."
They sat back down, and the tea they hadn't finished earlier was still there, ready to be drunk.
Diana took a slow sip and then said,
"Go ahead, Billy. We're friends. You don't need to be so formal."
Billy bit the inside of his cheek, thinking for a moment before speaking.
"Charles is out of the hospital. What are you planning to do? Are you going to stay?"
Diana didn't hesitate and shook her head immediately.
"No, once he's able to take over the company, I'll leave."
"Will he let you go?"
Thinking of the cold and ruthless man, Billy couldn't help but frown.
He hadn't seen Diana in five years and had spent three months rebuilding their relationship.
Billy's question was partly selfish. He had freed himself from his father's control and was now divorced. If Diana didn't want to stay, he would help her.
"He will. We've already agreed."
Diana gave an unexpected answer.
Billy's eyes widened, thinking he had misheard.
"He promised?"
"Yes."
They fell into silence.
Billy's mind raced, trying to figure out under what circumstances Charles would let Diana go.
Soon, a thought crossed his mind, and his eyes showed a hint of pity.
"If you need any help, you can come to me. I'll do everything I can."
Diana guessed his thoughts but didn't explain. The fewer people who knew about Charles's amnesia, the better.
"Thank you."
"No need to thank me. We're good friends."
Billy felt warm inside, looking at Diana's delicate profile and her soft pink lips. She was just as he remembered, and his heart beat with the same excitement as before.
So, he impulsively said,
"I'm divorced now. We could..."
But before he could finish, Diana raised a hand to stop him.
"Thank you for your kindness, but I'm sure our relationship can only go this far. Just because I rejected one man doesn't mean I need to fall into another's arms."
"Sorry, I was too forward."
Realizing his mistake, Billy looked regretful and explained,
"My feelings for you haven't changed. I'll always be here if you need me."
In some ways, a man like Billy was rare, but Diana just didn't like him.
He was too compliant, making him seem dull and uninteresting, not nearly as stimulating as Charles...
Realizing she was thinking nonsense, Diana quickly shook her head and smiled.
"Thank you, but..."
Billy's eyes were a bit red, and seeing she was about to reject him, he quickly stood up and grabbed her hand.
"You don't have to answer right away. I'll leave now. See you next time."
Diana's words got stuck in her throat, but fortunately, Nolan arrived just in time. He knocked on the door and reminded her,
"Ms. Spencer, the car is ready."
She came back to her senses and nodded softly. Thinking of the scene at home that morning, she couldn't help but smile.
