Chapter 104 Aftermath

Diana's tinnitus was still ringing in her ears. She could see Charles's lips moving, but she couldn't catch a word he was saying.

She leaned in closer and practically shouted, "What did you say?"

Her blood-streaked face suddenly loomed large in front of Charles, but it wasn't scary at all.

In fact, the blood added a strange kind of beauty to Diana's pure face.

Charles's breathing got heavier, and his hand started to slide around Diana's waist.

The knitted dress clung to her soft, warm body, feeling so good that he couldn't help but get a little hooked.

That was Diana's sensitive spot, and she shivered at his touch.

In the next second, her expression shifted, and she stomped on his foot without hesitation.

Charles felt the full force of her stomp, and Diana, not satisfied, ground her foot down even harder.

It wasn't until Charles's face turned grim that Diana finally let go and stepped back. Pretending to be surprised, she said, "Oops, sorry, Mr. Percy, it was a reflex. Didn't mean to. Want to stomp back?"

Charles gritted his teeth and said coldly, "The last person who stomped on my foot is still in a wheelchair. You wanna try?"

He glanced at Diana's legs, his eyes dark and serious.

If it had been anyone else, Diana wouldn't have believed them, but Charles had just killed Finnian right in front of her. So, it seemed pretty likely he might actually break her legs.

Diana immediately bowed more sincerely. "I'm sorry, Mr. Percy, I was really wrong. Please forgive me."

Seeing her behave, Charles suddenly lost interest. He raised a hand and tapped her forehead. "Don't forget to repay the money, and also, the condition you promised me."

Diana started thinking about the chances of running away with the money without getting caught, but she asked sweetly, "What condition, Mr. Percy? What can I do for you?"

Charles didn't answer her question but left her with a parting shot before turning to leave. "I'll tell you when I think of it."

Diana's eyes followed him until he was out of sight.

Her hand clenched into a fist. 'What could the request be?'

Even though Charles had left, Nolan was still talking to the police, handling the aftermath.

Robert had been waiting nearby for Diana and Charles to finish their conversation. Seeing Charles leave, he looked thoughtful but kept quiet.

Diana was now most worried about Cecil. The gunshot had scared her, let alone baby Cecil.

Diana turned to leave Robert to deal with the police and went out to find Isolde.

She asked the police at the door and found out that the two had gotten into an ambulance.

Just as the medical staff were about to close the door, Diana climbed into the vehicle.

"Who are you? Are you a family member of the patient?" a nurse asked.

Diana nodded quickly. "Yes, I am. Please hurry to the hospital. The baby can't wait."

After saying that, she sat next to Isolde. The two of them stared at Cecil, who was wearing a respirator, looking tense.

The nurse closed the door and, seeing Diana covered in blood, exclaimed, "Are you okay? That's a lot of blood!"

Isolde also noticed Diana's messy state and asked worriedly, "Are you okay, Diana? Let the doctor take a look at you."

Diana shook her head, indicating it wasn't necessary. "It's not my blood. I'm fine."

Hearing this, Isolde understood that Finnian was really dead, shot right in front of her.

Her face turned pale, and she began to feel scared. "Just a little more, both you and Cecil would be dead."

Thinking about Finnian's fate, Isolde's voice carried a hint of satisfaction. "He deserved it. People like him should die!"

But as she spoke, Isolde started to cry, tears streaming down her face uncontrollably.

The medical staff, seeing her distress, gently said, "Don't worry. I'll give you a sedative. You need to rest."

Isolde leaned on Diana's shoulder without resisting. After receiving the sedative, she slowly drifted off to sleep.

Diana patted her shoulder and laid her down, letting Isolde's head rest on her lap for a more comfortable sleep.

After days of tension, Diana finally relaxed a bit. She was also exhausted but forced herself to stay awake and asked, "Doctor, is the baby okay?"

The doctor said, "The initial examination shows no major issues, but he has low blood sugar and is frightened. He needs to be hospitalized for observation."

Hearing that Cecil was okay, Diana breathed a sigh of relief.

There was still some distance to the hospital. She leaned against the compartment and closed her eyes to rest.

Robert's situation was more complicated. Finnian was shot dead on the spot, and although it was done in a moment of urgency, the person who did it wasn't a police officer.

Fortunately, Nolan was used to cleaning up the mess after Charles. For police of this level, just mentioning Charles' name was enough to make them back off.

But Jasper, not knowing him, wanted to handle things by the book. Nolan simply called the police chief.

How to handle this matter was up to them. Nolan's shift was over.

Robert was dumbfounded, thinking, 'So this is the power of authority. Since Nolan has taken care of it, I am off the hook.'

When Diana arrived at the hospital, she didn't have the energy to catch up with them.

She sat down on a bench and called Evelyn, "Hey, Evelyn, help."

Evelyn was about to sleep when she heard Diana's weak voice on the phone and sat up in fright. "What happened, Ms. Spencer? What's going on?"

"Don't worry, it's nothing serious. Cecil is fine, but I'm at the hospital and exhausted. I don't have the energy to take care of them. Can you come and help me?"

Evelyn agreed repeatedly and immediately got up.

She had felt guilty for not being able to help before. Now that things had settled and she could be of use, she was more than willing to come.

Diana gave Evelyn the ward number and reminded her to be safe on the way.

When Evelyn arrived, Isolde was lying in bed, and Diana was sleeping beside her.

Both looked exhausted.

Evelyn draped a coat over Diana without waking her up.

She then turned to ask the nurse where Cecil was.

The nurse, recognizing them, directed Evelyn to the pediatric ward.

Isolde knew the hospital's director, which saved a lot of bureaucratic steps.

Although she was asleep, a nurse was still assigned to take care of Cecil.

Seeing Evelyn, the nurse asked, "And you are?"

Evelyn immediately replied, "I'm with Ms. Porter. She asked me to take care of Cecil."

The nurse, seeing Evelyn's kind appearance, nodded and let her in.

Having taken care of Cecil for so long, Evelyn had grown attached to him.

But now, Cecil was lying in bed with a respirator and an IV without his previous vitality.

The nurse, noticing Evelyn's tense expression, comforted her, "He's fine now, just a bit scared and has low blood sugar. When he wakes up, just ring the bell for us."

Hearing this, Evelyn felt a bit relieved and replied, "Okay."

Evelyn then adjusted Cecil's blanket and stared at his face in a daze.
