Chapter 393 Invitation
Diana caught a whiff of milk and her eyes flickered as she turned to Jacob.
"Hey, Jacob, where's that calming tea from earlier?"
"Ms. Wipere, would you like some? I can have the staff prepare it right away."
Jacob immediately pulled out his phone to make arrangements.
Diana waved her hand dismissively. "No need, I was just curious. But I've had a lot of water already, I can't drink any more milk. Please take it away. Benjamin can have it."
"Sure thing."
Benjamin, seeing she didn't want the milk, pouted and took a sip from his own glass.
When he looked up, a white milk mustache had formed on his upper lip.
"It's really good. Next time, don't drink so much water. We can enjoy it together."
"Benjamin, look at your face."
Diana laughed at his appearance and bent down to wipe the milk off his face.
Their interaction was so natural and affectionate that Jacob felt a bit out of place, standing awkwardly to the side.
He couldn't help but think, they seemed so much like mother and son.
A knock on the door was followed by a deep voice from outside.
"Quite the lively scene in here."
The three turned to see Charles standing in the doorway, dressed in dark gray loungewear with damp hair, clearly having just showered.
What was he doing here?
Diana was puzzled but followed Jacob's lead and greeted him.
"Mr. Percy, what brings you here?"
"Mr. Percy."
Benjamin, still upset from dinner, ignored him and turned away, clutching his cup as he sat on the couch.
Charles stepped forward, glanced at Benjamin, and said with a smirk, "If I remember correctly, your room isn't here. What are you doing here?"
Diana quickly explained, "Mr. Percy, you said I could look after him. He was bored in the villa, so we played some games."
The screen still showed a game-over screen, and game controllers were scattered on the floor. She wasn't lying.
Jacob remained silent.
Before Charles returned home, Diana and Benjamin often shared a room.
Benjamin claimed he was scared at night but refused to have a servant stay with him, insisting on Diana. Over time, everyone got used to it.
After all, Diana was just taking care of Benjamin, and she hadn't complained, so why should they?
Charles hadn't come to reprimand them. He simply responded with a faint "Hmm" and then turned to Benjamin on the couch.
"Since you've played enough, Jacob, take him back to his room to rest. I need to discuss something with Ms. Wipere."
Benjamin, still drinking his milk, looked up immediately. "No, I haven't finished playing yet."
It wasn't that he didn't want to leave; he just wondered why they had to discuss something so late at night.
"Mr. Percy, whatever it is, can we talk about it tomorrow? It's getting late, and I'm feeling a bit tired."
Diana didn't want to talk to him alone. There was no need to change bandages, and any issues could be communicated directly.
"Fine, I'll get straight to the point."
Charles ignored their comments and continued, "Next week, I need you to accompany me to an event as my date."
"Me?"
Diana pointed to herself, incredulous. "Doesn't your company have plenty of secretaries? They could..."
"How do you know my company has many secretaries?"
Charles interrupted her, looking at her with a half-smile.
Diana's breath caught, but she maintained her composure. "You're a successful boss, right? What kind of boss doesn't have secretaries? I'm not stupid."
Close call, she almost gave herself away.
Her heart raced as she looked at Charles, feeling a bit guilty.
"I do have secretaries, but they all have tasks to handle. To prevent any incidents with my health at the event, it's more suitable for you to accompany me."
Charles' reasoning was solid, making it hard to refuse.
Even Jacob chimed in, "Yes, Ms. Wipere, you are the professional."
Diana's nerves were on edge. She regretted pretending to be a nurse. How could she refuse now?
"I want to go too."
Benjamin's young voice piped up. He had finished his milk and joined the conversation with a burp.
"No. Jacob, take him away."
Charles rejected him coldly.
Although the last press conference had dispelled rumors about Zachary having a child, many people were still watching the Percy family closely. Taking Benjamin out could be risky.
"I don't care! I want to go! I want to go!"
Benjamin threw a tantrum, rolling on the floor and kicking his legs, several times hitting Charles' shins.
Despite his intelligence and maturity, Benjamin knew that children his age could often get away with mischief. So, if his demands weren't met, he was adept at throwing fits.
Seeing Charles' face grow darker, Diana grew anxious and scolded, "Benjamin! Stop misbehaving!"
Benjamin stopped immediately, feeling a bit wronged. 'Why are you scolding me? I just want to go along to protect Mommy.'
Diana bent down and lifted him up by his arms. Once he was standing, she turned to Charles and said, "Mr. Percy, I'll go with you."
Then she turned to Benjamin, frowning and speaking softly, "No more mischief. Go back to your room with Jacob."
Benjamin pouted, looking like he was about to cry.
Diana's heart softened at his expression. She patted his head, "Alright, next time I'll take you out, okay? Adult parties are for work, they're very boring."
Benjamin blinked away his tears and silently walked towards the door.
Jacob quickly followed.
Watching him leave, Diana sighed.
"You two have a great relationship."
Charles' voice came from behind, startling Diana.
She had almost forgotten Charles was still there.
She turned, her expression polite but distant. "Mr. Percy, I've agreed. It's late, I need to rest."
Charles showed no intention of leaving. Instead, he picked up the untouched glass of milk and asked, "Why didn't you drink it? Not to your taste?"
Diana shook her head, "No, I drank a lot of water, I don't want any more."
"Alright."
He responded and then brought the glass to his lips. With a few gulps, he finished the milk, leaving a white mustache similar to Benjamin's.
Diana was speechless. Why did they have to resemble each other in such odd ways?
"Next time, I'll have the staff prepare something else."
Charles said, oblivious to the milk on his lip.
"No need, I sleep well, I don't need any sleep aids."
Diana forced herself to ignore the milk mustache and replied coldly.
"Your sleep is indeed quite good."
Charles remarked meaningfully, then set the glass down.
"Mr. Percy, your mouth."
Diana couldn't hold back and reminded him.
