Chapter 309 Get Sick

Diana's eyes lit up. She quickly buttoned her clothes and pushed the door open.

There was no one outside, except for a servant polishing the banister by the stairs.

Seeing Diana approach, the servant looked up and greeted her, "Good afternoon, Ms. Spencer."

Diana nodded slightly and asked, "Where's Tessa?"

The maid paused, then glanced downstairs, "I haven't seen her. She might have gone out."

She asked, "Are you hungry, Ms. Spencer? The kitchen should have some food. I can have someone bring it to you."

Diana shook her head, "No need, I'll go down myself."

When she reached downstairs, the servants didn't react much to her presence. It seemed Charles had kept his word; she was now free to leave her room.

However, Diana walked around the villa but couldn't find any sign of Evelyn.

She frowned slightly and turned her gaze towards the garden's loft.

"Ms. Spencer, could you please move? You're blocking the way," Tessa's voice suddenly rang out.

She stood with her arms crossed, a hint of disdain on her face.

She had been notified early that morning that Diana could leave her room. What a shameless woman!

Diana ignored her look and asked, "Where's Evelyn? Now that I can come out, you can't keep her locked up."

"Who's locking her up?" Tessa's voice rose, "She doesn't want to come out. We even have to bring her meals. It's such a hassle."

She wrinkled her nose and looked away, clearly displeased.

Diana felt a pang of doubt. She glanced at the loft again and decided to check it out herself.

Tessa didn't stop her but didn't accompany her either. Diana made her way to the back garden and, for the first time, ventured into the small building.

The loft was originally built to mimic the villa, intended for the garden staff's accommodation.

But since Charles didn't care much for the backyard plants, the number of gardeners dwindled, leaving the place mostly empty.

As soon as Diana entered, she felt a chill. She rubbed her arms and muttered, "Why is there no heating?"

The first floor was cluttered with various items, making it hard to walk through.

Diana carefully navigated her way to the stairs. The banister was cleaner than the rest, likely because Evelyn used it often.

Taking a deep breath, Diana ascended the stairs.

The second floor was similar to the first, though slightly less cluttered. Diana walked a bit further and saw the small loft extending upwards.

The cold made her shiver. She had never realized the loft was in such a state. Evelyn always smiled and never complained.

Diana stood at the door and tentatively knocked.

A cough came from inside, followed by Evelyn's weak voice, "I don't want any food. If possible, could you bring me some medicine or hot water?"

Another bout of coughing followed.

Diana's breath caught, and a surge of anger rose within her. She suppressed her emotions and knocked again, "Evelyn, it's me. Open the door!"

There was a sound of something falling inside, then Evelyn spoke, "Ms. Spencer, I'm glad you're okay. This place isn't fit for anyone. You should go back."

Diana's voice grew stern, "Open the door! Why won't you see me? Are you sick? I'll get a doctor for you."

Evelyn tried to stifle her cough, "I'm really fine, just a little cold. Ms. Spencer, you should leave. You're pregnant; it wouldn't be good if you caught it."

But Evelyn couldn't hold back her cough, and her breathing became labored.

She had been sick for days, initially thinking it was just a minor cold.

But the loft was too cold. When she wasn't sick, she could manage with clothes. But once she fell ill, her condition quickly worsened.

Evelyn had asked the servants for help, but they only listened to Tessa.

Tessa had said, "You think you're some rich heiress needing a doctor for a little cold? Ms. Spencer can't even protect herself now."

So, Evelyn stopped asking for help, enduring it silently. Even with Diana outside, she didn't dare go out, fearing it would cause trouble for her.

Diana frowned and knocked harder, the force causing dust to fall and sting her eyes, bringing tears.

Diana, with tears in her eyes, insisted, "Come out. I'll take you to the doctor."

Evelyn weakly replied, "It's no use, Ms. Spencer. I'm going to sleep. You should go."

Diana bit her lip, realizing something was wrong.

Evelyn wasn't one to avoid medical help, and she had asked for medicine and hot water earlier. But upon hearing Diana's voice, she immediately refused.

There was only one possibility: someone had brainwashed Evelyn.

Diana wiped her tears and quickly went downstairs, her eyes red with determination.

She stormed up to Tessa and commanded, "Get a doctor for Evelyn, and where's the first aid kit? Bring it out!"

Tessa was taken aback but quickly retorted, "Ms. Spencer, doctors have days off too. Dr. Ramos is on leave today."

"As for the first aid kit, Jacob put it away. How would I know where it is?"

A sharp slap echoed, drawing all the servants' attention to Diana and Tessa.

Tessa's head turned from the impact, her face stinging and swelling. She held her cheek, disbelief in her eyes, her voice twisted, "You dare hit me?"

Diana stood tall, anger blazing in her eyes, "Yes, I did!"

Tessa, furious, raised her arm to strike back. The servants quickly intervened, holding her back and urging, "Calm down, calm down."

Diana hitting Tessa was one thing, but Tessa hitting Diana was another.

She wasn't just hitting Diana; she was hitting the mother of the future heir of the Percy Group. If Charles found out, everyone present would be in trouble.

Tessa, restrained, glared with fury, "No doctor, no medicine. You can just wait for Evelyn to die!"

With that, she shook off the servants and stormed out, clearly washing her hands of the matter.

Diana clenched her fists and looked at the remaining servants, "Does anyone have any medicine?"

The servants shook their heads, indicating they only had painkillers, which wouldn't help Evelyn's condition.

Taking a deep breath, Diana didn't press them further.

She headed upstairs, remembering her phone was in the next room.

She needed to call Robert or Isolde, anyone who could help get Evelyn to a hospital.
