Chapter 368 Press Conference

At the press conference venue.

The event was supposed to start half an hour ago, but Charles, the host, was nowhere to be seen.

The media personnel in the audience exchanged puzzled glances, unsure of what was happening.

One impatient reporter approached the event staff and asked, "It's been over half an hour. Why hasn't Mr. Percy come out yet? Is the press conference canceled?"

The staff member hesitated before replying, "We haven't received any notice of cancellation. Please be patient. The Percy Group is offering refreshments, so please wait a little longer."

"Who cares about your snacks and drinks? I rescheduled several interviews to be here. Are you messing with us?"

"Exactly! Give us an explanation. How long are we supposed to wait?"

The front row was in an uproar, and the people in the back started whispering among themselves.

"Could something have happened to Mr. Percy?"

"No way. The Percy family already lost one heir. If something happened to him too, who would run the company?"

"I think he's feeling guilty and doesn't dare to show up. Charles' only competitor was Zachary, and now that Zachary had an accident abroad, who can say Charles wasn't involved?"

The crowd grew more animated, making bold accusations without any evidence.

Nolan walked from backstage to the podium. He had received news that Charles was being pursued and needed to stabilize the situation until Charles returned.

"Ladies and gentlemen, please be cautious with your words. The Percy Group's legal team is present, and anyone who dares to spread rumors will face legal consequences."

Nolan's polite smile carried an invisible pressure. Someone who had been by Charles' side for so long was certainly not weak.

The reporters who had been making bold claims suddenly fell silent, wishing they could disappear.

Who would dare provoke the Percy Group's legal team? They must be tired of living.

After Nolan spoke, the staff brought out water and snacks, distributing them to the reporters.

Nolan continued, "Please have some refreshments and take a break. Mr. Percy was delayed on his way here. We appreciate your patience."

Immediately, someone in the audience responded, "Let's wait a bit longer. Maybe Mr. Percy got stuck in traffic."

Others echoed the sentiment, though inwardly rolling their eyes. 'What a show! You were the one complaining the loudest just now.'

In the back corner, a woman didn't relax like the others. She didn't even smile when she received the refreshments.

She glanced around the venue and saw Nolan making a serious phone call, sensing something was wrong.

She quickly discarded her things and stood up.

The reporter next to her, seeing that she was about to leave, tried to persuade her, "Wait a bit longer. This is big news. If we get the most accurate information, we'll hit the jackpot!"

"I'm not here to report. I'm looking for someone," the woman said, lowering her head and nudging his foot. "Please move."

He was taken aback by her determination to leave and was momentarily at a loss for words. But when he saw her face clearly, his expression froze.

So beautiful.

"You..." He stammered, momentarily at a loss for words, feeling dazed.

Diana frowned and tried to step past him.

At that moment, the conference hall doors burst open with a loud bang, drawing everyone's attention.

Before seeing the person, they heard the sound of high heels clicking on the marble floor, resonating in their hearts.

As the sound faded, the person stood on the stage.

The crowd was visibly surprised.

Someone in the audience exclaimed, "Mrs. Percy!"

Wasn't it supposed to be Charles? Why was Elise here?

The crowd was puzzled. Elise and Charles were known to be at odds. Her presence and Charles' absence hinted at big news.

The previously calm crowd grew excited again.

"Mrs. Percy, are you hosting today's press conference?"

"Mrs. Percy, look over here!"

The sound of camera shutters filled the hall.

Elise, who appeared without her usual regal makeup, looked noticeably more haggard. It was likely due to the heartbreak from Zachary's death.

"I'm sorry for the delay. I just received news that Charles was in a car accident on his way here. I will be hosting today's press conference."

The audience erupted in shock.

Diana's face darkened. She had arranged with Benjamin yesterday that he would find a way to attend the press conference, and she would seize the opportunity to leave with him.

But she had overlooked the underlying stakes.

At that moment, Dean's voice came through her earpiece, "Sophia, there's a multi-car collision on a bridge in the northern part of Evergreen City. Benjamin's location is there."

Diana's face turned pale, her heart sinking.

What she feared had come true.

Who would dare harm Charles?

Besides Elise on stage, who else?

But it didn't make sense. Elise believed Benjamin was her grandson, the future heir. Why would she harm him?

Diana closed her eyes, suppressing her emotions, and quickly left the venue.

Eugene and his team were heading to the press conference. His expression was unusually serious, but as he reached the door, he saw a woman coming out.

With everyone inside focused on the big news, Diana's exit was conspicuous.

Eugene squinted, glancing at her.

He suddenly stopped.

Was he mistaken? That woman looked like Diana.

His subordinate noticed his sudden halt and asked, "What's wrong, Mr. Bailey?"

Eugene snapped back to reality and shook his head, "Nothing."

How could it be Diana? It was probably someone who looked similar. With Stella as an example, it's not unusual for faces to resemble each other in a big world.

Eugene entered the venue, smiling.

He clapped his hands, "Everyone, look here."

Instantly, all eyes were on him.

Eugene enjoyed the attention, his smile widening. He greeted Elise on stage, "Mrs. Percy, long time no see."

Elise's expression changed upon seeing him.

Why was Eugene here? Wasn't he abroad?

"What are you doing here? This is the Percy Group's press conference."

Elise's eyes widened, her resistance evident.

Eugene glanced nonchalantly at the reporters present, then walked up to Elise, a polite and appropriate smile curving his lips. However, his narrow eyes held a hint of intriguing amusement.

"Mrs. Percy, you wound me. Have you forgotten that Charles and I are good friends? As his friend, I'm here to host the press conference."

He looked at Nolan, who was being restrained in the corner, and raised his voice, "Isn't that right, Mr. Smith?"

The people holding Nolan immediately stopped.

Nolan stepped forward, his clothes wrinkled, and said sternly, "Yes, this is Mr. Percy's order."
