Chapter 154 Let Go of Prejudice
Charles voiced what Nolan was thinking, "What are you doing here?"
Eugene clutched his chest, pretending to be hurt. "Lyle, look at him, so cold and heartless!"
Lyle, standing nearby, chuckled and said, "I bumped into Eugene here, so I invited him to join us. It's been ages since the three of us hung out. Let's not leave until we're wasted."
Charles glanced at Eugene, who was dressed to the nines, "It's not a coincidence; he's here every day."
Eugene sat up straight, weakly retorting, "I do go to work at the company, okay? Don't make it sound like I'm a playboy."
The girl in his arms chimed in, "Mr. Bailey is amazing, not a playboy at all."
Eugene loved the praise and turned to kiss the girl's cheek.
Their PDA was getting on Charles's nerves. He turned away and handed his coat to the waiter.
Something fell out of the coat, rolling to Lyle's feet.
He picked it up and found a small transparent box with a yellow pacifier inside.
Eugene saw it, too, and burst out laughing.
"Charles, what are you doing? Switching careers to be a stay-at-home dad? Why are you carrying this around?"
Charles's expression changed slightly. He took the pacifier from Lyle and handed it to the waiter.
Then he turned around and gave Eugene a solid kick to shut him up.
Lyle, on the other hand, looked intrigued. "Charles, are you going to be a dad?"
Charles nodded.
"That's awesome. In a couple of months, my kid will be born too."
For a moment, everyone's eyes were on Lyle, even Eugene, who was clutching his leg, looked up at him. "What? Lyle, you're going to be a dad too? Didn't you say you wouldn't get married or have kids?"
Lyle smiled sheepishly.
He, Charles, and Eugene used to be tight.
Since his dad passed away early, Lyle was raised by his mom.
When his dad was alive, he had many affairs and fathered many kids.
After his dad's death, all these siblings came to fight for the inheritance.
Luckily, Lyle's mom took charge and kept a firm grip on the family's power.
When Lyle became capable, she handed over BlueSky Technologies Ltd. to him.
But his mom passed away from overwork.
For many years, Lyle had a tough issue in his heart.
He hated his dad's promiscuity, which betrayed his mom's love. He also feared he would be like his dad, with the same bad traits.
So, when the three of them talked about marriage, Lyle had said he would only date, not marry, and not have kids.
But now, how long had it been since they last met, and Lyle had already gone back on his words?
Eugene couldn't help but wonder what kind of woman Lyle's wife was.
"I got married. It was arranged by my mom before she passed away. She's from a wealthy family too. I didn't like her at first, but after getting to know her, I found her to be really cute, gentle, and kind."
As he spoke, a happy smile spread across Lyle's face. "We fell in love after getting married. People do change. When my kid is born, don't forget to bring gifts!"
Eugene listened and fell silent, staring at Charles. "You guys are really something, both becoming dads."
Charles picked up a drink from the table and took a sip.
"If you want, the lady next to you would probably be happy to have your child."
As soon as he said that, the woman in Eugene's arms blushed and clung to him, breathing softly. "Mr. Bailey, I..."
Eugene saw her like this and recoiled in disgust, pushing her away as if she were something repulsive.
"Get lost. You're ruining my mood."
The woman, realizing her mistake, quickly apologized, "Sorry, Mr. Bailey, I misspoke."
Eugene lost interest and waved her away.
The woman didn't dare linger and quickly left with her head down.
"Charles, are you deliberately trying to disgust me?" Eugene's eyes burned as he stared at the calm Charles, clenching his fists.
Charles took another sip of his drink. "What? Didn't you want to be a dad? Should I contact your brother to arrange a wife for you?"
Eugene finally gave in, raising his hands in surrender. "Alright, you win. I won't say anything."
Lyle laughed heartily at their banter and turned to Charles. "What about you? When did you have a child? How long has it been since you divorced that weirdo Diana? That was fast."
When Lyle heard about Charles's divorce from Diana, he even congratulated him.
He had thought that someone like Charles, who wasn't interested in women, would probably end up alone.
Eugene, sitting nearby, was momentarily stunned when he heard Lyle's words.
Seeing Charles remain silent, Eugene crossed his legs and raised his voice, "How fast? Mr. Percy is still entangled with that Diana."
Talking about someone in their presence was provocative.
Lyle processed Eugene's words and realized what he meant. "Are you divorced or not?"
Eugene raised his glass, gesturing towards the frustrated Charles. "Divorced, and pregnant."
Lyle looked at the silent Charles and then remembered the pacifier in his pocket. His expression turned serious.
"Charles, I'm older than you. As a friend, let me give you some advice. A wife is your own, and only you know if she's good or bad. Now that there's a child, maybe it's a sign from God. Think about it carefully."
Charles listened to him and, for some reason, didn't get angry. Instead, Diana's eyes flashed in his mind—eyes filled with hatred.
He gripped his glass and spoke, "You used to say arranged marriages don't work."
Lyle nodded, "Yes, I dated many women before, but none made me want to marry. I'm actually grateful to my mom for choosing such a good wife for me."
He took a sip of his drink, paused, and continued, "There is always someone in the world meant for you. She's really wonderful, and I'm very happy now, looking forward to our child's birth."
Charles listened, lost in thought, and the atmosphere grew quiet.
Eugene broke the silence, saying, "Alright, guys, why are we talking about family matters at a men's gathering? We said we wouldn't leave until we're drunk, right?"
