Chapter 271 Imprison
Sabrina tugged at Diana's sleeve, her eyes brimming with curiosity. She had spent countless hours at home trying to figure out why Diana and Charles were still hanging out after their divorce.
This was her chance to finally get some answers!
Seeing Diana's hesitation, Sabrina bit her lip and swore, "I promise, I won't tell anyone, not even Noah! If I spill the beans, let my family go broke! I'll never get rich in this lifetime."
For Sabrina, this was a pretty serious vow.
Diana sighed and gave a wry smile, "Alright, I'll tell you. The reason Charles and I divorced is exactly what the rumors say. I used to like him a lot and chased after him. But my family's status didn't match the Percy family's, and Charles didn't like a woman who pursued him so aggressively. So, we divorced. Now we're still together because..."
She paused, deciding not to reveal the deeper truth, and instead said, "Because of an uneven property distribution. Charles' late grandmother liked me a lot and left me some money. Now we're entangled over that."
Sabrina pouted and thought for a moment before speaking, "That doesn't make sense. If it's just a property dispute, why are you two so close? You were holding hands just now."
Diana felt a pang of unease. Sabrina wasn't as easy to fool as she thought!
Wealth, inheritance, love, entanglement—Sabrina turned these words over in her mind until a light bulb went off, and she exclaimed, "I got it!"
Her expression was so certain that Diana became curious, "Got what?"
"You two must have a sexual relationship! It looks like you don't love each other, but in reality, you're entangled in love and hate, unable to be together for various reasons..."
Diana almost choked on her own breath and quickly covered Sabrina's mouth to stop her.
'What kind of wild imagination is this? Sabrina, do you even study at school? What books are you reading?' Diana thought.
"Don't talk nonsense. If Charles hears this, we're both doomed!"
Sabrina nodded quickly, showing she understood.
Once Diana let go, she couldn't help but ask, "Diana, how's Mr. Percy's body? He always dresses so formally, I can't see anything. But he's so handsome!"
As she spoke, she started daydreaming, then quickly snapped back to seriousness with Diana's gaze fixed on her, "Actually, he's not that handsome. Just curious, that's all."
Diana pressed her lips together, unsure how Noah had put up with Sabrina. "Men are all the same, nothing to be curious about. If you think Charles is great, then he's great."
Objectively, Charles did have a perfect body and face, but Diana wasn't a foolish ruler, indifferent to beauty. She meant what she said sincerely.
But to Sabrina, it sounded a bit jealous. She blinked and explained, "Diana, I don't like Mr. Percy. I just appreciate beautiful things. He seems so stern, nothing to like."
Her serious expression and wind-tousled curls made her look like a fluffy little dog.
Diana laughed, pinching her cheek lightly, "I'm the same, so no need to feel sorry."
Sabrina smiled and hugged her waist, "Exactly, men are nothing, friends are more important."
Then she looked up, eyes sparkling, "Diana, let's stay good friends, okay? I'm so lonely here, I can't lose you!"
Diana raised an eyebrow, pretending to think deeply, raising Sabrina's hopes. Just as Sabrina was getting anxious, Diana smiled and said, "Of course."
Hearing the affirmative answer, Sabrina's eyes lit up with joy, showing her white teeth. "Diana, our school is having a food festival the day after tomorrow. Come with me! There'll be tons of delicious food!"
Diana hesitated, a bit skeptical. "You're not tricking me into meeting someone, are you?"
"Of course not!" Sabrina's eyes widened as she pulled out her phone. "It's really a food festival. Our school even sent a notice. It's right near the school, we can just walk around."
She showed the notice, her tone a bit reproachful. "Diana, you said you wouldn't blame me, but now you're doubting me."
Seeing the notice, Diana felt guilty and tapped her head, quickly reassuring her. "No, I was just joking. I can go with you. But Charles won't let me go out."
"What! Imprisonment!" Sabrina's eyes widened, her voice rising several octaves. Her naturally high-pitched voice was almost breaking.
Diana took a deep breath, about to explain, when Charles' deep voice came from behind. "Imprisonment?"
Charles and Noah had arrived unnoticed, catching the tail end of the conversation. Their expressions were not pleased.
'Oh no, what kind of family secret is this? Sabrina's been out of my sight for just half an hour and has already learned so much?' Noah wanted to flee. Knowing too much about this could get him silenced, right?
Diana felt awkward, unable to deny it because Charles was indeed using Evelyn to keep her close.
Seeing Charles and Noah, Sabrina quickly shut her mouth and greeted them nonchalantly. "Noah, Mr. Percy, are you done talking?"
Noah nodded, though they hadn't really talked. Charles, impatient as ever, was already eager to find Diana. But as soon as they walked in, he overheard something incredibly juicy—totally catching him off guard.
Sensing the tense atmosphere, Noah cleared his throat. "Mr. Percy, Ms. Spencer, since the misunderstanding is cleared up, we won't disturb you. Sabrina, let's go home."
Sabrina pouted, reluctant. Her eyes darted between Diana and Charles before she spoke. "Mr. Percy, I want to go out with Diana. Can you let her go?"
She spoke so quickly that Noah couldn't stop her. By the time he processed it, it was too late. He quickly pulled her over, bowing. "I'm sorry, Mr. Percy. Sabrina is spoiled by me, it's my fault."
He paused, then sternly said, "Sabrina! Apologize to Mr. Percy!"
This time, he couldn't let Sabrina's nonsense slide. The last incident was still a sore spot for Charles.
Interfering in their family matters now was asking for trouble.
Noah rarely got this angry, scaring Sabrina into a rapid heartbeat. She quickly bowed her head and apologized. "I'm sorry, Mr. Percy. I shouldn't have meddled."
Charles' face was dark. Diana was the one being disobedient, flirting outside, and now he was the bad guy who was imprisoning her?
Well, it was true. It was imprisonment.
But the truth was the hardest to accept. Diana's silence meant she saw him as the villain too.
So, everything that happened between them recently was just his wishful thinking?
