Chapter 540 The Storm
It was already weird enough that Zachary suddenly called for a shareholders' meeting, but insisting on sitting in Diana's office chair beforehand was just plain provocative.
Dean wasn't even a real employee. If Nolan hadn't stopped him earlier, he would've already decked Zachary.
"Ms. Spencer, is this the new assistant you hired? His manners could use some work."
Zachary was in an unusually good mood today. Even after Dean's insult, he wasn't mad and had the energy to joke with Diana.
Diana frowned slightly, placed her bag on the sofa, and took a few steps forward.
"What's this all about?"
Zachary patted the desk with both hands and spun around in the chair, like he was showing off.
"Nothing much, just wanted to see how it feels to sit here. Ms. Spencer, you don't mind, do you?"
Diana crossed her arms and sneered.
"So, Mr. Percy, you have a habit of marking your territory by scent? If you like it so much, why don't you take the chair and desk home? I'm afraid if I don't give them to you, you'll start marking them by taking off your pants."
She waved a hand in front of her nose mockingly, as if he really had a smell.
Zachary's previously smug expression froze. He gripped the sides of the chair tightly, his eyes practically shooting daggers.
"Are you calling me a dog?"
Diana shrugged.
"I didn't say that. Just a metaphor, Mr. Percy. You're not mad, are you?"
"You!"
Zachary was furious, wanting to tear her apart, but remembering what was about to happen, he suppressed his emotions and forced a cold smile.
"Fine, very fine. As expected of Charles's wife, you've got quite the sharp tongue. I hope you can be just as eloquent at the shareholders' meeting later!"
With that, he stood up abruptly and stormed out. Diana quickly stepped aside, not giving him a chance to bump into her.
Dean, on the other hand, dragged out his words mockingly.
"Mr. Percy, if you like this desk and chair, I'll have them sent over to you later."
Zachary quickened his pace and slammed the door on his way out.
As soon as he left, Nolan's expression turned serious.
"Ms. Spencer, the situation is bad. The major shareholders are keeping their mouths shut. I couldn't find out anything. What should we do now?"
In contrast to his seriousness, Dean rolled his eyes and made a throat-slitting gesture.
"How about I kidnap their families and see if they still dare to gang up on us?"
Diana, not liking the chair Zachary had sat in, chose to sit on the sofa instead.
Hearing Dean's suggestion, she snapped.
"Kidnapping is illegal. Use your brain. Weren't you curious last time? Well, the answer is about to be revealed."
"Oh right! Diana, you saw this coming! No wonder you're not worried. Now I feel better. I'll just wait and see what they have on us."
Dean was suddenly excited, leaving Nolan confused.
He had only been away for a few days, but it felt like he had missed something important.
Given his not-so-close relationship with Diana, Nolan didn't ask further and waited for the shareholders' meeting.
-
In the conference room, the circular table was already filled with shareholders.
Those secretly supporting Zachary looked excited, clearly anticipating what was about to happen.
The shareholders supporting Charles, like Nolan, were confused, whispering to each other, sharing bits of useless information.
"Ms. Spencer is here."
Someone in the crowd announced.
The room immediately fell silent as Diana took the main seat, her expression calm.
Nolan and Dean followed her in and took their seats.
Zachary snorted, turning slightly away as if he didn't want to see her.
"Everyone's here. Let's start the meeting."
Diana glanced around, leaning back, not taking the meeting seriously.
"Mr. Percy, today is my day off, yet you insisted on having this meeting. This isn't the first time you've done this. I hope you have something important to say this time, or I'll report you for violating labor laws."
Dean spoke first. It was his first shareholders' meeting, and he was supposed to just observe, but he said this instead.
The shareholders turned to look at him, clearly surprised by the assistant's boldness.
Was this Diana's person? So impressive?
Surprisingly, Zachary wasn't angry. Instead, he laughed.
"Forget about labor laws. The company is about to be destroyed, and you'll soon be out of a job."
His words were like a bomb, causing an uproar in the room.
"What do you mean, Zachary?"
"Yeah, just say it. I'm too old for guessing games."
"The company's stock hasn't dropped recently. Am I missing something?"
...
"Everyone, please be quiet."
Zachary raised his voice, silencing the others.
"I won't beat around the bush. I'll get straight to the point. I'm here to report that Ms. Spencer has been cheating on her husband and conspiring with her lover to embezzle Percy Group's assets!"
He paused for a moment, heightening everyone's curiosity.
After dropping this bombshell, he quickly turned on the projector, and photos began to cycle through.
At the same time, his assistant started handing out documents.
Even Diana received a copy.
She opened the document to find photos of her and Billy.
In the photos, they were sitting across from each other in a romantic restaurant, seemingly having an intimate conversation by candlelight;
In another photo, Billy's hand appeared to be on Diana's shoulder.
The most damning one showed them at the restaurant entrance, with Billy's hand on Diana's back, almost looking like an embrace from the angle.
There were also photos of them in a café and even at the company. In all the photos, they were smiling, looking like a handsome couple, the atmosphere harmonious.
Dean's face turned pale as he recognized the photos. He finally understood why they had to change rooms that day—they had been under surveillance!
What kind of photography skills were these? How did a meeting of three people make him look like an outsider, not even capturing a corner of his clothes?
"Zachary, what do you mean by these photos? I was there too. Why am I not in any of them?"
Dean slammed the photos on the table, taking the initiative.
"Oh? You were there? Then what were you doing?"
Zachary sneered.
"Of course, we were discussing work. How much has the collaboration between the Richardson Group and the Percy Group earned the company recently? Are you blind? Didn't you see that?"
Dean gritted his teeth, his fists clenched, but Nolan held him back.
Seeing the photos shocked Nolan too, but seeing Diana's unchanged expression from start to finish calmed him down.
At some point, Nolan had also started to trust Diana.
