Chapter 390 Change the Dressing

By the time Diana came to her senses, she had already, somewhat absentmindedly, followed Charles to his room.

He was unbuttoning his shirt as he spoke, "The first aid kit's in the left cabinet."

Following his direction, Diana walked over and retrieved the kit from the cabinet.

It was called a first aid kit, but when she opened it, it only contained some unopened wound care supplies.

Diana's lips twitched; she suspected it was a last-minute preparation.

"Do you know how to bandage wounds, Ms. Wipere? I remember you were a nurse."

Charles' voice came from behind, making Diana's heart skip a beat. She quickly turned to respond, "Of course!"

As she turned, she saw Charles sitting on the bed, shirtless. His well-defined muscles contrasted sharply with his slightly pale face, creating a striking visual impact.

Diana's eyes flickered, but she reminded herself that they had already slept together; seeing his upper body was no big deal.

She quickly composed herself and offered a polite smile, "Mr. Percy, let me help you change the dressing."

Charles didn't respond, waiting for her next move.

Diana had been injured on missions before, so bandaging wounds wasn't too difficult for her.

She opened all the necessary supplies before frowning and starting to remove the bandage on his arm.

"This might hurt a bit, bear with it," Diana said seriously, her head lowered.

When she saw the gruesome wound, she winced empathetically.

Charles chuckled, finding her expression more lively than her usual guarded demeanor.

His thoughts wandered, and when the iodine touched his wound, he couldn't help but gasp in pain.

Though the sound was faint, Diana heard it. Charles was usually unflappable; if he was in pain, it must be her fault.

Thinking this, Diana immediately stopped, "Sorry, I'll be gentler."

It seemed quite serious; she wondered when he would fully recover. Diana grumbled internally but softened her touch considerably.

Charles noticed her change in attitude, feeling a sudden tenderness in his heart.

He lowered his lashes, watching her movements, "It's okay, it doesn't hurt much."

Diana paused for a moment, not exposing his tough act. A strand of her hair fell onto Charles' arm, brushing against it as she worked. It tickled.

His Adam's apple bobbed as he instinctively leaned away to escape the tickling sensation.

"Mr. Percy, it'll be done soon, don't move," Diana said, displeased, as she reached out to steady his arm.

The strand of hair brushed against the inside of his arm, making Charles tense up.

After a moment, he raised his other hand and gently lifted the strand of hair. Though it was light, it felt heavy to him, and he moved slowly.

The next second, Diana felt a touch on her ear, making her jump back as if electrocuted.

Her face reddened, and she covered her ear, exclaiming, "What are you doing?"

Applying medicine and touching her, why wasn't he injured on both hands?

Charles hadn't expected such a strong reaction from her, feeling a surge of displeasure. He rubbed his fingers and looked up at her, "Your hair fell on my arm, it tickled."

To confirm his words, the hair that had been tucked behind her ear indeed fell loose. She considered the truth of his statement.

Before she could think further, a large hand reached out, pulling her arm and drawing her closer. In a flash, their eyes met.

Charles' warm breath brushed her face as he spoke, "See, I wasn't lying."

He then turned his head to look at his arm. Diana followed his gaze and saw it was true. She pressed her lips together, "Sorry, I misunderstood."

Charles' lips curved slightly as he tucked the strand of hair behind her ear again, his fingers lingering for a moment.

Diana's ears were sensitive, and she instinctively shrank her neck, "It tickles."

She tried to pull her hand back, but Charles held onto it. His gaze fell on her face, a teasing smile playing on his lips, waiting for her to speak.

Diana finally understood; he wanted her to empathize. "Mr. Percy, I was wrong. I believe you, it was my fault."

Her face showed frustration; it was the first time she had apologized to Charles like this.

Diana wished she could pray to God to end this quickly; why did applying medicine have to be so complicated?

"It's okay, continue. I just wanted you to know that being misunderstood feels terrible," Charles seemingly forgave her, but the teasing in his eyes was hard to hide.

Diana took a deep breath, reminding herself she was here to work. If she could appease Charles, she could leave sooner.

After some mental preparation, she felt much calmer.

The medicine on the wound hadn't dried yet. Diana bent down and gently blew on it, her cheeks puffing out.

Charles was reminded of something and asked, "How did you sleep last night? Comfortable?"

Diana's mind involuntarily recalled her dream and the feelings in it. She blinked and said, "I slept well, thanks for asking, Mr. Percy."

Though it was just a polite response, Charles felt particularly pleased, his smile growing brighter.

Diana didn't understand what was so funny, so she looked away and quickly finished bandaging the wound.

With the waterproof bandage in place, the dressing was finally done. She sighed in relief and clapped her hands, "Mr. Percy, it's done. If there's nothing else, I'll be leaving now."

She turned to leave, but Charles spoke while putting on his shirt, "You seem to get along well with Benjamin."

More than well, they were practically inseparable, with hardly any room for others.

No matter how special Diana's status was, she was still someone Charles had hired. Having such a good relationship with Benjamin was truly rare.

She paused, unsure of his meaning, and responded cautiously, waiting to see what he would say next.

"Yes, Benjamin is a wonderful child. He gets along well with everyone."

Charles fastened the last button.

"Then could you, Ms. Wipere, help me take care of him? I can pay extra."

Diana's eyes widened in surprise.

This was perfect; she had been worrying about how to get Benjamin out of The Percy Mansion, and now the opportunity was right in front of her.

"Sure," Diana agreed readily, then added, "I think keeping Benjamin cooped up at home isn't good for his health. Can I take him out for walks?"

"Of course," Charles replied with a smile, seeming very agreeable. "You can go out anytime, but for your safety, bodyguards will accompany you."

"But..."

"No buts, Ms. Wipere. Benjamin's identity is special. I'm glad you're willing to take care of him, but you need protection. That's non-negotiable."

He dropped his smile, his tone firm.

Diana's small spark of hope was quickly extinguished.
