Chapter 102 Hostage

Everyone watched as Grace made her way to Finnian's house, then they split up to take action.

It wasn't even 10 o'clock yet, and Finnian was inside, counting the money he had squeezed out of Isolde with a greedy grin.

With this cash, he could get back to living the high life and stop being looked down on.

Cecil was lying nearby. He'd been crying and fussing for days, still clueless that he'd been kidnapped.

All he knew was that crying didn't bring anyone to comfort him anymore, and even when he slept, he was alone.

Finnian had no clue how to take care of a baby. Even though Cecil was his son, he had barely held him since he was born.

Now, he was using Cecil as a pawn to threaten Isolde.

Once he got the rest of the money, he planned to return Cecil and get back to his life without the kid messing things up.

As Finnian was daydreaming about his future, his lookout outside reported that Isolde and her friends were missing.

Finnian freaked out and quickly checked the surveillance cameras, spotting someone pacing at his doorstep.

Moments later, there was a loud banging on the front door, followed by an elderly woman's voice. "Is anyone home? Please, help me."

Hearing this, Finnian peeked out the window and saw an old woman.

But he didn't let his guard down. He grabbed a nearby stick and got ready to go downstairs.

Remembering something, he wrapped Cecil in a bedsheet, leaving a small opening for air, and tied him to his back.

With everything set, Finnian headed downstairs with the stick.

Grace was sitting on the ground at the door, eyes closed, wailing.

Seeing someone come out, she opened one eye, confirmed it was Finnian, and wailed even louder.

Finnian, with a stern face, walked up to her and knocked on the iron gate. The metallic sound was especially jarring in the night. "This isn't a place for you to cry. Get out of here, or don't blame me for being rude."

This was the first time they had met since Finnian returned to the village.

Grace had heard from Robert that he was a kidnapper and had been skeptical, but seeing his fierce demeanor now, she was genuinely scared.

As they faced off, the police outside the wall began to move.

They were well-trained, quietly scaling the wall with ease.

Grace coughed twice to buy time. "You jerk, I held you when you were a child. I even know your parents, and you don't recognize me?"

Finnian hesitated. He had left home early and was unfamiliar with most people in the village.

But whether Grace was telling the truth or not, he didn't care. Finnian waved his hand dismissively, muttering, "Go away, I don't know you. Don't try to scam me!"

Hearing this, Grace got angry, almost jumping up to argue with him.

Realizing that this approach wasn't working, Grace quickly changed her tone. "You ungrateful guy, I just came to borrow some medicine, and you accuse me of scamming."

As she spoke, Grace pulled up her pant leg. In the dim light, Finnian leaned in but still couldn't see if she was really hurt.

Maybe because Grace seemed completely harmless, Finnian relaxed a bit. "Wait here, I'll go find it."

He turned to go back inside.

But the police had just sneaked in to find the child; she couldn't let Finnian go back now.

Grace immediately called out, "In this cold weather, you're just gonna leave me sitting here? Help me up, it hurts."

Finnian's brow twitched, anger bubbling up inside him.

He was used to people kissing up to him, and this Grace was really pushing it.

He turned and knocked on the iron gate, his tone menacing. "You sound pretty strong for someone who's hurt. Forget about the medicine, crawl back yourself. I have surveillance here; whether you live or die is none of my business."

Ignoring Grace's shouts, Finnian turned and headed back inside. Just as he reached the door, an alarm blared from upstairs.

'Damn, someone got in.' Finnian panicked but remembered Cecil was still on his back, forcing himself to stay calm.

Instead of rushing upstairs to confront the intruders, Finnian turned and slipped into an inconspicuous storage room on the first floor.

Grace, sitting at the door, realized the situation had been exposed and quickly got up to inform Diana and the others.

But she didn't need to say much; Diana and the others were already aware of the situation.

The police placed Grace in a safe spot.

Jasper led Diana and the others into the house.

Just as they opened the iron gate, two gunshots rang out from inside, causing everyone's faces to change.

What was going on? Had Finnian resisted, causing the police to fire?

Isolde was especially freaked out. Since entering, she hadn't heard any cries from the child. 'If the police have fired, is Cecil still alive?'

In a panic, Isolde rushed into the villa. "Cecil!"

But what she saw were two police officers supporting each other, one with a gunshot wound to the leg.

The other had a neck wound, bleeding, and they immediately warned Isolde, "Get out, he has a gun!"

As soon as they spoke, a bullet hit the ground near Isolde's feet. If she hadn't taken a step back following the police's warning, she might have been lying on the ground now.

Upstairs, Finnian had a bundle on his back, a stick in one hand, and a gun in the other.

Seeing Isolde, he wasn't surprised, his tone excited. "Honey, why are you here?"

Isolde felt disgusted hearing him call her that and immediately asked, "Where's Cecil? Where did you hide him? If you have a problem, come at me. Why kidnap him?"

"Kidnap?" Finnian dragged out the word, as if genuinely puzzled.

But the next second, he pointed his gun at Isolde downstairs. "What do you mean kidnap? I'm Cecil's father; I have the right to be with him!"

A gunshot rang out, the bullet grazing Isolde's face and hitting the door frame. Her right cheek went numb, then started to itch.

When the blood began to flow, Isolde realized she was injured.

The few people who arrived shortly after saw the situation and their expressions all turned grim.

Diana quickly pulled Isolde behind her.

Jasper immediately notified the others outside that the suspect had a gun and had attacked the police and injured someone.

These charges alone would keep him in prison for a long time.

Seeing more people arriving, Finnian's face darkened. "Just as I thought, you people are all sneaky. You tracked me here. You should have just given me the money. Now, none of you will leave here alive!"

Diana interrupted his rant, "You're dreaming! Your gun only has seven bullets. There are so many of us."
