Chapter 429 A Mess

After their walk in the botanical garden, things started to improve just as Diana had hoped.

The main change was that Charles became less strict about their outings.

As long as they returned within the designated time, there were no issues.

Even when Charles had to go on a business trip to the neighboring city, he readily agreed when Benjamin asked if he could go out and play.

However, they were still followed by men in black every time they went out.

Usually, there were two of them, but occasionally there was just one. They were all burly and looked like they could take down ten Dianas with a single punch.

This bothered Benjamin.

At the moment, he was lying on the carpet, propping his chin up, completely uninterested in the storybook in front of him.

"Mommy, when can we find a chance to escape? What's the plan you mentioned?"

Diana was sitting beside him, fiddling with a Rubik's cube absentmindedly. It was a mess and she couldn't restore it to its original state.

Hearing Benjamin speak, she didn't stop her movements and replied, "We need to wait for the right moment."

Benjamin sighed. He had heard this phrase so many times it was almost ingrained in his ears.

Reflecting on the past few days, Charles had been coming home every day to have dinner with them.

Even Jacob was surprised. When Juniper was still alive, Charles didn't come home this often.

But most of the time, he was very busy, barely having time to say a few words. Benjamin suspected that he might just not want to talk.

Perhaps because these days had been so peaceful and pleasant, Benjamin even felt that if they couldn't go back, living like this forever wouldn't be so bad.

This was the family life he had always dreamed of. If only Charles weren't so cold.

As the sound of pages turning and the Rubik's cube twisting filled the room, Diana's expression gradually became more serious.

Her Rubik's cube was halfway restored, but one color was still a mess. She had forgotten the formula to solve it, feeling completely clueless, just like her escape plan.

Things were developing as she had expected with Charles, but the men in black remained a problem.

She had originally planned to use some sleeping drugs to knock them out.

However, after spending time with them, Diana realized they were very vigilant and never accepted anything she or Benjamin handed them.

Even when it rained, they each held their own umbrellas, looking very strange.

If they had to accept something, like when the two of them fell, only one of them would help.

Diana had tried this method before, resulting in one of the men in black acting as a human cushion, getting a bloody head but still climbing up to continue his work without expression.

This was beyond the scope of a bodyguard; they were like robots!

Previously, waiting seemed hopeful, but now what? How long would they have to wait?

Diana's mind was in turmoil, and she squeezed the Rubik's cube harder, making it creak in protest.

Benjamin heard the sound and turned his head, seeing Diana staring at the Rubik's cube with a troubled expression. He thought she was stuck.

He sat up straight and took the Rubik's cube from her. "Mommy, how could you forget this? It's easier than coding."

As he spoke, his fingers moved quickly, and within a minute, the Rubik's cube was restored, instantly satisfying his OCD.

"Done."

He handed the Rubik's cube back to Diana, just as there was a knock on the door. "Benjamin, Ms. Wipere, it's time for dinner."

"Okay." Benjamin responded and glanced at the clock on the wall. At this time, Charles was probably back.

He stood up, patted his butt, and turned to Diana. "Mommy, I'm starving. Let's go eat. After dinner, I'll show you how to solve the Rubik's cube."

Diana snapped out of her thoughts and smiled at him. "Alright."

Downstairs, Charles was indeed back. He was sitting at the dining table, his gaze fixed on the two of them as they descended the stairs.

Only when they got closer did he look away and take a sip of warm water.

Jacob noticed his subtle actions and couldn't help but smile.

Since Diana and Benjamin arrived, the house had become lively.

The originally monochrome decor had been adorned with some warm and cute items.

Most of them were things Benjamin wanted to buy, but Charles didn't object, and Jacob understood his intentions.

Five years ago, Diana's death had almost torn Charles' heart out. Now, finally, someone could heal him.

If Juniper were alive, she would be happy to see this.

"Mr. Percy, good evening. You've worked hard."

As Benjamin approached, his sweet voice floated over.

Now that they were eating Charles' food and using Charles' things, he would greet him when he was in a good mood.

This was called casting a long line to catch a big fish. If he didn't butter him up, how could he get more things?

Charles appreciated this, though his reaction was not strong on the surface. "Alright, let's eat."

When the three of them dined, they didn't need servants to serve them, preferring to be at ease.

Diana and Benjamin would chat and talk while eating, but with Charles, it became much quieter.

This meal started and ended peacefully, just like usual.

Normally, Charles would go upstairs to continue working after dinner, but today he spoke up. "Ms. Wipere, let's talk."

Diana and Benjamin both paused, looking at him with a hint of confusion.

They hadn't done anything recently, so what was there to talk about? Why so serious?

"Is there something wrong?"

Diana pursed her lips and asked.

Charles didn't beat around the bush. "My injury is almost healed. It's time to discuss the follow-up to your work."

Diana's mind seemed to ring a bell. She suddenly remembered that she had indeed said she would take care of him until he recovered.

She had thought it was just an excuse for Charles to keep her around, since apart from a few times changing his bandages, she hadn't done much to help his recovery.

Given Charles' usual expressionless demeanor, Diana had almost forgotten he was injured.

So now, discussing the follow-up, was he planning to let her go? Or arrange something else?

Diana felt a bit hesitant, leaning more towards the latter.

But regardless, they should talk first.

"Alright, where should we talk?"

"My room."

Charles stood up, his voice calm.

He didn't like moving around the house, so his room also had a work area.

Diana hesitated for a moment, but she had been to his room before, so she quickly followed him.

Benjamin didn't insist on listening in this time, knowing Diana would tell him everything afterward. He decided to go play with Snowy, perfect for digesting his meal.

The two of them went upstairs one after the other.

Once in the room, Diana stopped by the sofa, watching Charles walk to his desk and pull out a stack of documents from a drawer.

Seeing Diana standing still, he raised his chin.

"What are you standing there for? Come over."

"I'll stay here."

Diana shuffled her feet, reluctant to move closer, mainly because this spot was near the door, making it easier to run if something went wrong.

"You need to sign. Do you want me to come over and invite you?"
