Chapter 482 Reminder

Charles would have throttled Eugene right then and there for keeping someone like that around.

"Don't give me that look. We're friends, right? Don't you trust me?"

Seeing the shift in Charles' expression, Eugene felt a shiver run down his spine and took a step back before continuing.

"He graduated from Horizonia, and his mentor was some guy named Terry. I think this has something to do with your brother."

Zachary had been killed in the U.S. He'd been there for years, so it made sense that he knew some professors.

As for why he didn't suspect the intern...

Eugene had tested him later. His skills were decent but nowhere near hacker level.

"But he's already dead. Are you saying he swiped three hundred million dollars from me before he died?"

Charles frowned slightly, clearly skeptical of Eugene's theory.

Such a large cash flow would take even a fraud ring a long time to launder, yet all he had traced led to the Percy Mansion.

He was monitoring Zachary's public accounts, but what Elise held was still unknown.

"Maybe, but it's just a guess. Maybe he died so miserably because he stole your money and got his karma?"

Charles scoffed. He never believed in karma.

But Eugene's information wasn't entirely useless. It could give Nolan a lead to follow.

"Alright, I got it. If there's nothing else, you can leave now."

With that, he turned his attention back to his computer, treating Eugene like he was invisible.

"Hey! That's cold! I came all the way here with useful information. As a friend, shouldn't you at least invite me to lunch?"

Eugene was annoyed at being treated like disposable cutlery.

"I didn't prepare anything for you."

Charles' tone was indifferent, but the next second, there was a knock on the door.

"Come in."

It was Nolan, who had taken on the task of delivering lunch since Abigail and Claire had gone out to eat.

"Mr. Percy, lunch from the Percy Manor is here. And... Mr. Bailey? What are you doing here?"

Nolan had planned to leave after delivering the food but was puzzled to see Eugene.

How had Eugene slipped in without reporting?

But remembering Eugene and Charles' relationship, he realized they might be discussing something important.

He quickly regained his composure and said respectfully, "I'll just leave the food here."

"Wait!"

Eugene smelled the food and realized it was from the Percy Manor. He immediately got up to stop Nolan, grabbed the bag, and grinned at Charles.

"See, I knew you were just pretending to be cold. You did prepare lunch for me."

"Mr. Bailey! That's not—"

Nolan tried to stop him, but Charles spoke up, "Let him have it. Go inform the people with my wife that they should follow her lead today."

Nolan froze for a moment, realizing Diana wouldn't be back today. He nodded stiffly and left the office to them.

Eugene, listening to their conversation, opened the lunch boxes and, seeing they were identical, placed one on the opposite table.

"Alright, let's eat. You're living well now, even calling her 'my wife'?"

Eugene mimicked Charles' tone, dragging out the words with a teasing smile.

"You're really different now, leaving the kid for me to take care of while you two enjoy your happy life."

"If you're not eating, get out."

Charles sat down across from him, his tone icy.

"Fine, I won't say anything more. But..."

Eugene's expression turned serious as he asked, "Dr. Garcia said you haven't visited in a long time. Are you sure you're okay? Seriously, you can't go down that path again."

Eugene still shuddered at the memory of Charles' zombie-like state after Diana left him.

Others might not dare to say it, but as a friend, Eugene had to remind Charles, even if it meant risking a trip to Africa to see wildebeests...

"Yeah."

Charles lowered his eyelashes, slowly picking up a piece of broccoli and putting it in his mouth.

After chewing, he said,

"I'm very aware of my condition. I won't hurt her."

His heartache had always been about Diana. Now that she was back, those numbing medications were meaningless.

The thought of seeing his beloved wife at home made even his tedious work seem interesting.

If his world had been black and white after Diana's death, her return had brought back the colors.

His temper had improved significantly, and he didn't throw Eugene out for asking such questions.

Eugene didn't know his thoughts and twitched his mouth.

"That's not what I meant. I mean... never mind, do what you want. I'll keep an eye on you."

He pointed two fingers at his eyes and then at Charles.

Ignoring his antics, Charles looked up and said, "I asked you to take care of the kid. Why are you still here? Finish eating and get out."

"You really treat me like a nanny?"

Eugene slapped the table, ready to argue, but remembering the benefits he got, he changed his tone.

"Only I can be this nanny. Fine, I'll finish eating and go take care of Benjamin."

Meanwhile, Diana had been waiting for a long time when the bodyguard's phone finally chimed.

He glanced at it, put it away, and reminded them, "Please fasten your seatbelts. We can leave now."

Diana sighed in relief. It seemed Charles was held up by something.

He hadn't replied for a while, and she thought he might back out.

Evelyn was also excited, clinging to Diana's arm and saying,

"Ms. Spencer, we're about to meet Ms. Porter. Are you excited?"

"Excited, but you seem more excited than me."

"Of course! I've been dreaming of this day. I can't believe it's coming true. Ms. Porter must be excited, too."

They chatted casually, the atmosphere harmonious.

Isolde's feelings were indeed as they guessed.

She sat in the reserved room, holding a glass of lemon water, anxiously watching the door.

She wished she had gone to pick them up. Now she wanted to go out and check, but feared missing them, so she stayed put.

When the door finally knocked, Isolde's body tensed. She quickly put down her glass and smoothed her hair.

As the door opened, the server's voice came first, "Hello, ma'am. This is the place. Let us know if you need anything."

Isolde's eyes were fixed on the open door, and she finally saw the familiar figure.

Five years had passed, but Diana's face was unchanged, though her hair seemed shorter, and her eyes calmer.

Their eyes met, and Diana smiled, "Isolde, I'm back."
