Chapter 160 Returning to The Percy Mansion
Diana pursed her lips, her tone stiff. "My nose is quite straight, just like mine."
Seeing Charles's face darken, Brenda quickly changed the subject. "Ms. Spencer, let's listen to the fetal heartbeat. Although it's a bit weak, the ultrasound can amplify it," she said, pressing the amplification button.
With her action, a steady and strong heartbeat came from the device. Listening to the sound, Charles's hand at his side unconsciously clenched a bit, and his heart suddenly felt full.
This was his and Diana's child, a life he had created. Charles couldn't help but imagine what this child would look like after birth, and a hint of anticipation rose in his heart. Even today's anger seemed to dissipate because of this child.
"Mr. Percy, Ms. Spencer, the baby is very healthy," Brenda said with a smile. She could clearly feel that both of their expressions had relaxed a lot.
But Diana remained silent, lost in thought.
After the check-up, Evelyn hurried over. She questioned Brenda about the baby's condition and only relaxed after hearing that the baby was healthy. Nolan also stood by Charles's side, listening quietly.
For a moment, the five of them stood at the door of the ultrasound room, and the atmosphere was a bit tense.
Brenda spoke up, "Ms. Spencer's body has recovered well. The hospital is crowded and not very private; it would be better for her to go home to rest and recuperate in a more comfortable environment."
Hearing this, Diana frowned slightly. Now that she was in the hospital, although there were cameras and bodyguards, it was still quite easy to escape. Once she returned to The Percy Mansion, it would mean being surrounded by Charles' men.
"I think the hospital is fine. I want to stay..." Diana said, trying to sound casual despite the slight unease in her voice.
"Go home. Jacob will arrange everything," Charles interrupted before she could finish, "including your maid."
Arrange what? A storage room? Diana pressed her lips together but didn't voice her question, thinking about the possibility of two people sleeping in that small room.
Seeing her silence, Charles said no more and left Grace General Hospital with Nolan.
Evelyn clutched Diana's sleeve, hesitating, "Ms. Spencer, are we really going to live at The Percy Mansion? I'm scared."
"If I'm not afraid, what are you afraid of?" Diana pinched Evelyn's cheek, her tone light, "But the treatment at The Percy Mansion won't be as good as here."
"As long as I'm with you, I can endure any conditions!" Evelyn wasn't afraid of hardship; she was afraid that Charles would target them again. That Charles was really someone they couldn't afford to provoke. Many times, when Evelyn saw his furious face, she felt that Diana would be beaten to the ground in the next second.
Listening to their conversation, Brenda couldn't help but hold her forehead. Anyone who didn't know would think The Percy Mansion was a slum.
"Alright, ladies. As the family doctor, I'll be going back with you, so don't worry. We can pack up now and head to The Percy Mansion tomorrow."
Hearing this, Evelyn's eyes lit up. She remembered the baby items they had bought and suddenly said, "Ms. Spencer, can we decorate the nursery at The Percy Mansion?"
Diana was taken aback by her question. She had never considered the child's future before. But after hearing the fetal heartbeat, she had a different understanding of this little life.
"Sure, we can ask Jacob about it then."
At The Percy Manor, Elise sat on the sofa, rocking a purple dress, her hair neatly pinned up with a hairpin. Pearls dangled from her ears, giving off a soft white glow, making her look both noble and gentle.
Sitting across from her was Claire. Even though they were distant relatives, they shared a similar gentle demeanor.
All the servants in the living room had been dismissed. Elise took a sip of her tea and said softly, "Claire, how's work at the company going?"
"It's fine, but Charles doesn't let me handle important tasks. It's not very challenging," Claire replied with a slight smile.
She wasn't here for small talk today. Last time Diana went out, Claire had accidentally seen Nolan's phone and immediately informed Elise. Claire wondered if Elise's team had found Diana's whereabouts.
"Elise, did you find out what I told you about that day?"
Elise looked up, her tone light, "You mean her? Charles sent her to Grace General Hospital, but she'll be back at The Percy Mansion in a couple of days."
Claire frowned slightly, unsure where it would be better to take action.
Elise had the same thought. She had long known that Diana was at Grace General Hospital. But Charles had arranged so many spies that she couldn't find an opportunity to act. Even last time when Diana went out, her team could only watch from a distance.
"This Diana, clinging to Charles because of the child. I must make Charles see her true colors." Claire clenched her fist, staring angrily at the snacks in front of her.
Elise smiled. Her stepson had indeed captivated many women. She remembered when he first came. He was only seven, thin and small. Having just lost his mother, his eyes were dull. Although he wore new clothes prepared by Juniper, he didn't look as lively and cute as Zachary.
At that time, Charles held Juniper's hand, standing in this very living room. And his father, James Percy, was the first to speak, "That's not my child. There are many people in the world who look alike."
Juniper was so angry that she slapped him, her tone sharp, "Do you think I would bring a stranger's child home? You forgot what you did back then. His mother is dead! And you, as his father, won't take responsibility!"
Charles watched them argue, neither crying nor making a fuss. Juniper gently squeezed his hand and said softly, "Charles, this is your father."
But the next second, James immediately waved his hand in denial, "I'm not his dad. I only have one child, Zachary, and only one wife, Elise. The past is over. Mom! Just give this child some money and send him away, won't you?"
Juniper was furious, not understanding how James had turned out this way. At this moment, Charles lowered his eyelashes, hiding his emotions, and said calmly, "Grandma, can I live with you?"
