Chapter 422 Understanding
Compared to Diana, Jacob was way more chill.
He checked the time and said, "Ms. Wipere, keep an eye on Mr. Percy. I'm gonna head down first."
Diana didn't argue this time. She nodded, lips tight, and glanced at the bathroom door.
The door was frosted glass, so she couldn't see inside.
But the sound of vomiting had stopped, replaced by the sound of running water, which went on for about ten minutes.
When Charles came out, he was in a bathrobe, his hair still wet.
Diana was taken aback. He showered right after throwing up?
Sure, it made sense, but wasn't he drunk? How did he manage to shower so fast?
Before she could think more about it, Charles walked over and stopped in front of her, saying, "Medicine."
Diana was momentarily surprised but quickly handed him the stomach medicine and a glass of water.
Charles tossed two pills into his mouth and took a big gulp of water.
As his Adam's apple moved up and down, the medicine finally went down after all the fuss.
Diana asked, "Feeling better?"
"Dizzy and really tired," he replied, his breath carrying a hint of mint.
He even brushed his teeth!
Diana was both shocked and impressed. She pointed to the nearby bed, "If you're feeling unwell, you should lie down and rest."
Charles shook his head. "If I lie down, you'll leave."
"I won't. I'll wait until you fall asleep before I go. Don't you need to eat something first?"
"Can we talk now?"
He grabbed Diana's arm, his eyes showing a hint of vulnerability.
Diana's heart skipped a beat, feeling a bit soft-hearted.
Even though their conversation earlier in the day had ended in a big argument, the drunk Charles seemed much more approachable, at least not like a cold robot.
Diana lowered her gaze and said, "Okay, go ahead."
Charles' expression became more serious. "Why don't you like it when I stand up for you? She almost got you killed."
"It's not that I don't like it," Diana instinctively replied, but then felt her words were ambiguous, so she explained, "She did something wrong, but I can handle it myself. Besides, your punishment was too harsh."
Charles looked at her quietly, lifting his chin to signal her to continue.
Diana clutched the hem of her clothes and said earnestly, "Stella didn't do anything unforgivable to me. You've already ruined her career and family. For a girl, that's already very heavy."
Maybe because she had lived another life, Diana saw these women as just girls.
They just liked Charles, and they didn't do anything truly evil.
After all, the reason she almost drowned was because Charles suddenly came over to give her mouth-to-mouth.
Thinking of this, Diana pouted and concluded, "Anyway, thank you for standing up for me, but it's time to let it go. Stella and I won't have any more interactions in the future, so there's no need to go to extremes."
Her last sentence was heartfelt.
If it weren't for Charles, she wouldn't have had any interaction with Stella in this lifetime.
Hearing this, Charles' previously agitated heart calmed down because of her.
He had managed the Percy Group for so long, accustomed to handling things coldly and decisively, always making sure to leave no loose ends.
But hearing Diana's words, he felt he might have been too harsh on Stella.
After all, she had given her youth.
However, Diana's indifference towards Stella still made Charles uncomfortable.
Stella had been with him for four years, yet Diana showed no reaction at all.
If she could care, if she could be jealous...
Charles would be much happier.
Her indifference meant she didn't care about him either.
But at this moment, dwelling on these thoughts would only add to his troubles.
Charles closed his eyes, suppressing his bad mood, and nodded, "You're right. I'll reconsider her compensation."
He had plenty of money, after all.
More than anything, Diana was intrigued by another question.
Charles seemed more human than usual now, so if she didn't ask now, when would she?
"Mr. Percy, are you this generous with all your ex-girlfriends?"
Why was it that when they divorced, she didn't get a penny and was left with a lot of debt?
Charles was taken aback by her question but then replied seriously, "She wasn't my girlfriend. We never had anything. If you must know, we were just contract partners."
'A "contract partner," huh? They even had an engagement, and he is still making excuses.'
Diana had just finished mentally criticizing him when Charles continued, "I only have one wife, and her name is Diana Spencer."
Hearing her name suddenly, Diana was momentarily stunned. She blinked and avoided Charles' intense gaze, saying softly, "You don't need to tell me this."
"But I want to say it."
Diana didn't take his drunken words seriously. She cleared her throat and changed the subject, "You've said enough. Now you can lie down and rest."
As she spoke, she held his arm, trying to help him to the bed.
Charles didn't resist and obediently lay down. His wet hair dampened the pillow, but Diana didn't notice.
She looked around, thinking about when she could leave.
Charles, lying in bed, quietly watched her, showing no sign of wanting to sleep.
It wasn't until Jacob came in with some food and invited Diana to join them that she found an excuse, "Jacob, now that you're here, I'll head out. It's getting late. You two should eat and get some rest."
Jacob glanced at Charles on the bed and didn't stop her this time. Instead, he smiled and said, "Thank you for your help today, Ms. Wipere. We really appreciate it."
Diana nodded, looked at the half-closed-eyed Charles on the bed, and then left the room.
After she left, Jacob spoke softly, "Mr. Percy, you can't keep pushing your body like this. Your stomach isn't healed yet."
Charles didn't respond to that. Instead, he sat up, picked up his phone, and said, "Jacob, you can go now. I'm not eating. I have no appetite. I'll sleep soon."
Knowing he couldn't argue with him, Jacob didn't force him to eat.
After all, Charles had taken his medicine, so he shouldn't feel too bad tonight.
Fortunately, since this "Ms. Wipere" came, Charles' lifestyle had become somewhat healthier.
But who knew how long it would last.
Late at night, Eugene was fast asleep in his apartment, unaware that his phone had received a notification about a fishing job on an island.
It wasn't until the next morning, when men in black barged into his home to wake him up, that poor Eugene realized Charles hadn't mellowed out but was planning revenge.
Similarly, Nolan was informed early in the morning to arrange Eugene's work.
He thought Eugene had done something to anger Charles again, and he himself would be affected by the boss's bad mood.
But when he got back to the office, he found Charles looking particularly refreshed and in a visibly good mood.
Nolan was puzzled.
