Chapter 165 Charles is Good At It

Jacob lugged the toolbox up from downstairs and set it down next to Diana. "Ms. Spencer, be careful with this," he said, sounding a bit worried.

Diana barely nodded, her mind completely absorbed in the instruction manual.

The wooden boards were all different sizes, and since it was a crib, they were covered in cartoon patterns.

But the pictures in the manual were super blurry, making things tough for Diana. She just set aside the ones she could figure out.

"Evelyn, come check this out. Does this pattern go here?"

Evelyn was busy sorting some toys. Hearing Diana, she rushed over.

After staring at it for a while, she scratched her head and mumbled, "Ms. Spencer, I think so, maybe?"

Diana sighed and waved her off. "Never mind, you go ahead. Jacob, can you take a look?"

Jacob saw her struggling and chuckled. "I'm too old for this stuff. We need someone who actually gets it!"

He dragged out the last word, his eyes darting to Charles.

Diana tilted her head slightly, catching a glimpse of Charles.

She didn't say anything. She couldn't believe it; she was the top hacker in the alliance. Could a little crib really stump her?

Charles was watching Diana. Her hair was tied in a low ponytail, with a few loose strands framing her face.

She'd been at it for a while, and a light sheen of sweat had formed on her forehead. Her tanned skin had a faint blush, like a ripe peach.

Diana raised her hand to tuck the loose strands behind her ear, her lips pouting slightly as she thought.

Charles's gaze fell on her lips, and he felt a sudden urge.

What would it be like to kiss those lips that always said such infuriating things?

Unbidden, the night they made love flashed in his mind. It used to disgust him, but now, thinking about it, he felt a burning sensation in his chest, something hot and irritating, making him feel both agitated and thirsty.

"It should be like this, let's just try it first," Diana muttered to herself, arranging the wooden boards.

She picked up the hammer, ready to start, but the next second, someone grabbed her hand.

Charles stood behind her, his voice low and mocking, "Don't be a fool and overestimate yourself."

Diana was squatting on her tiptoes, and when he grabbed her, she lost her balance.

She fell backward, landing on Charles's foot. Realizing she was in the wrong spot, she quickly stood up.

But squatting for so long made her dizzy, and as soon as she stood up, her vision went black, and she wobbled.

Seeing Diana about to fall, Jacob shouted, "Ms. Spencer!"

Evelyn turned at the sound of his voice to see what was happening.

Charles quickly extended his arm, wrapping it around Diana's waist and pulling her into his arms.

Diana's head was buried in Charles's chest, his heartbeat loud in her ears.

The familiar woody scent filled her nose, with a hint of tobacco.

"Did you smoke?" Diana suddenly looked up and asked.

"Yeah." He'd been feeling really stressed and had a cigarette today.

Diana frowned, covering her nose and pushing Charles away in disgust. "I'm pregnant, and you're still smoking. Get away."

Charles was taken aback. He'd never really paid attention to the dos and don'ts of pregnancy; he just thought taking care of Diana was enough.

Seeing Diana's boldness, Evelyn quickly chimed in, "Mr. Percy, Ms. Spencer is pregnant and can't be around secondhand smoke. But a little bit of smell on you is okay."

After saying that, Evelyn quietly stepped aside, trying to make herself invisible.

Hearing Evelyn's words, Diana felt a bit relieved and lowered her hand from her nose.

Charles's Adam's apple bobbed, and he subtly moved a bit further away from her. He corrected the misplaced wooden boards on the ground. After glancing at the manual, he began to assemble it.

Diana stood by, surprised by his good mood today. She was a bit dazed, her gaze fixed on Charles, unable to look away.

Could he really endure this much for the child?

"What are you standing there for? Give me the hammer." Charles extended his hand, his thin lips moving slightly, pulling her drifting thoughts back.

Diana snapped out of it, suppressing her inner complaints. She handed him the hammer.

But as soon as she got a bit closer, Charles said coldly, "Stay away from me."

Seeing Diana pause, he slightly pursed his lips and added, "I smell like cigarettes."

He was explaining.

Diana blinked, then squatted next to Charles and placed the hammer in his hand, "Evelyn said a little bit of smell is okay."

She took the manual and pointed at the finished product image, "How do you know you're right? I think these two pieces are about the same."

As Diana got closer, Charles could even smell the sweet floral scent on her. He moved a couple of steps to the side and said in a deep voice, "I told you, I'm good at this. Your efforts are worthless compared to my talent."

"You!" Diana felt a strong sense of provocation. The last person who provoked her like this was Dean, who was now her follower.

But as Charles hammered away, the crib really started to take shape.

Charles turned to her, raising an eyebrow as if to say, 'See, this is my talent.'

Diana gritted her teeth and turned her head away from him.

But Charles started ordering her around, "Don't just stand there, give me the wrench."

So arrogant! Diana grabbed the wrench and pushed Charles aside. "I'll do it. I don't believe I can't assemble this crib."

Charles saw her like a cat with its fur standing on end, and a barely noticeable smile appeared on his lips.

He put down the wooden board in his hand and took two steps back, nodding at Diana, "Go ahead."

Diana was indeed smart. Initially, she just couldn't distinguish the cartoon patterns. Once Charles arranged the wooden boards, everything became clear.

Her nimble fingers, usually on the keyboard, moved quickly. She was so focused that she didn't notice Charles watching her.

When Diana was halfway through, she couldn't help but turn her head to show off, "How about it? You still doubt my intelligence? It is ridiculous!"

Charles raised an eyebrow, saying nothing, and continued watching.

In less than five minutes, the previously confident Diana hit a snag.

According to the manual, she needed to insert three small parts to secure it before moving on to the next step. But there were no such small parts on the ground.

"How can they be missing?" She squatted down, flipping the wooden boards and shaking the box they came in.

Still, she couldn't find the small parts.

Jacob asked, "What's wrong, Ms. Spencer? Are we missing something? I'll go get it."

Diana turned her head, lips tightly pressed, and after a moment, concluded, "The store forgot to send the parts."

Jacob thought for a moment, "Mr. Smith sent this. He probably knows the situation."

Logically, anything sent to The Percy Mansion, especially for the future heir of the Percy family, should be flawless.

Jacob and Diana were chatting when Nolan strolled in after his break.

The moment he walked in, both of them turned to look at him, and he felt a bit confused. "What's up?"

Diana jumped in, "Mr. Smith, the baby crib is missing some parts. Did they forget to include them when they shipped it?"

Nolan didn't even hesitate before shooting back, "No way. This platform works with the Percy Group. They always send the best stuff. Missing parts? They'd be out of business if they did that."

Diana got mad at his confidence. If the seller didn't forget the parts, was she lying?

She stood up and gestured, "Alright, Mr. Smith, if you're so sure, then you find it. If you do, I'll take your last name."

"Really? Then what's this?" Charles's voice came from behind before Nolan could respond.
