Chapter 151 Shopping
Inside the box was a cute yellow pacifier shaped like a bear.
"The book says babies use sucking to explore the world. This pacifier can calm the baby and make him feel secure," Evelyn explained, watching Diana's reaction closely.
Isolde, done with paying, came over and checked out the pacifier. "Evelyn picked this one right away and bought it on the spot. It looks nice, right? But who knows if the baby will like it."
Diana's expression softened. She closed the box and smiled. "I really like it, thank you, Evelyn."
Evelyn felt a warm glow inside and took the box to the clerk for packing.
After Evelyn left, Isolde whispered to Diana, "Diana, I know you hate Charles. But if you can't get away, try to love this child."
Diana's face was calm as she replied, "I still don't feel like a mother. I might as well have an abortion while I don't have any maternal feelings. I don't want my child to turn out like Charles."
Isolde was taken aback by her words and needed a moment to recover.
In some ways, she and Diana were alike. They both had kids with awful men. But now Finnian was dead, and Isolde had money and looks, so her past wouldn't mess up Cecil's life.
But Diana was different; all her pain was tied to Charles. She couldn't love an unborn child without any distractions.
Diana gave a bitter smile. "Isolde, I'm actually just like Charles. We're both cold and ruthless. He wants to get rid of me after the baby is born, but I won't let him have his way."
Isolde suddenly grabbed Diana's hand, speaking earnestly, "You're not like him, Diana. I know you're a good person. If I were in your shoes, pushed this far by Charles, I wouldn't have held on."
She paused, her expression turning scornful. "Damn Charles, I used to think his genes were good. He deserves to die alone. He thinks he can push you out after the baby's born? Forget it! That bastard Charles."
Diana was amused by her sudden change in attitude, and her mood lifted. She held Isolde's hand, comforting her, "I'm fine, I have a will to survive that's as tough as nails."
This made Isolde laugh out loud, and for a moment, they were both laughing together.
Meanwhile, Evelyn was busy sorting out the bags and boxes. The two bodyguards had big, strong hands, perfect for carrying all the stuff. Evelyn smiled and thanked them while handing over the items. Even though each item wasn't heavy on its own, together they were quite a load.
Bodyguard Idris had his hands full and even had shopping bags hanging around his neck. The other bodyguard, Jett, wasn't in much better shape, holding a stack of boxes and unable to see where he was going. Their faces, hidden behind sunglasses, were turning red.
Jett couldn't help but speak up, "Stop piling more on us, we can make another trip. It's not like we're never coming back."
Evelyn scratched her head, realizing she might have overdone it, and smiled apologetically. "Sorry, I was trying to be efficient."
The clerk nearby covered her mouth, laughing. "Miss, we can help carry things too."
"Then please help us!"
Evelyn got everything sorted and then turned to Diana, "Ms. Spencer, we can head out now!"
In the end, the three women carried a few bags each, followed by two bodyguards and two clerks who looked like walking Christmas trees.
Meanwhile, Charles and Nolan were downstairs. Nolan had received the bodyguards' location on the way, but after arriving at the mall, the bodyguards suddenly stopped responding.
"Where are they?" Charles frowned, a vein throbbing on his forehead, his tone full of impatience.
Nolan checked his phone again, but Idris was unreachable, as if he had vanished. "Mr. Percy, this mall is also a property of the Percy Group. I'll contact the manager right away to find Ms. Spencer."
Charles was about to speak when he caught sight of Diana and her group approaching. They had so many bags that they were attracting a lot of attention.
Nolan saw Charles staring intently in one direction and followed his gaze. Was that Diana? If he remembered correctly, almost everything in Spark Plaza was luxury goods. Why did it look like she had shopped at a warehouse club, buying so much?
Nolan couldn't help but twitch his mouth, watching Charles stride over angrily.
Diana was chatting and laughing with Isolde when suddenly a shadow loomed over her, and she bumped into it before she could react.
"Hey, why don't you watch where you're going..." Isolde was also startled and about to curse, but seeing Charles's face, she held back the rest of her words. "Mr. Percy, you're here."
Diana, holding her head, heard Isolde say it was Charles. She looked up, meeting Charles's gaze without flinching. "Mr. Percy, if I remember correctly, I'm free to move around. The two bodyguards are here, so are you here just to block my way?"
Diana had beautiful eyes that curved when she smiled, with a noticeable arc under her lower eyelids, making her look playful, her pupils shining like gems. But now, looking at Charles, her eyes were devoid of any spark, filled with cold sarcasm.
Charles was momentarily stunned by her gaze, forgetting what he wanted to say. Seeing everyone standing there in a daze, Charles felt a surge of irritation. He grabbed Diana's arm, dragging her towards the emergency exit.
Evelyn saw this and quickly tried to follow, "Ms. Spencer!"
Nolan immediately stopped her, whispering, "Don't go."
Evelyn, teary-eyed, didn't understand why Charles suddenly came over so angrily. They hadn't caused any trouble today. "What about Ms. Spencer? Mr. Smith, don't stop me!"
Nolan didn't let go, his expression stern. "She'll be fine, Mr. Percy isn't that kind of person."
Although Charles was impatient with Diana, she was pregnant, so nothing would happen. Isolde understood and held Evelyn back, shaking her head silently.
Diana stumbled as she was dragged, still holding things. She lost her balance and almost fell.
Fortunately, Charles quickly caught her. Once Diana steadied herself, she lifted her gaze and saw Charles's deadpan expression.
"Charles, are you out of your mind?" She couldn't hold back and cursed out loud.
"Why don't you think about what you did today?" Charles restrained his anger, veins bulging on his hand, his knuckles slightly bent. It seemed like he was about to slap Diana any second.
"Your two bodyguards monitor me all day, don't you know what I've been doing?"
Charles laughed angrily, "Really? Is finding handsome guys part of your plan too?"
Charles's eyes landed on the bag Diana was holding, but he couldn't make out the logo.
He sneered, "Out having fun with some guys and then coming here to spend money, huh? Living the good life, aren't you?"
"Greedy and lustful," he spat out through gritted teeth.
Charles looked up to see Diana standing there silently, her face clearly showing disgust.
For a moment, Charles was taken aback. When he snapped back, his expression darkened even more. He grabbed Diana's jaw with his large hand.
In a cold voice, he demanded, "What's the matter? You had a lot to say just now. Speak up!"
