Chapter 479 Meet Again
Diana's heart skipped a beat. Instead of tossing the flower aside, she moved it to a different spot.
The man in black, noticing her standing in front of the tombstone with her hands clasped, perceptively stepped back about thirty feet.
He gave Diana the space to have a moment with her mother.
"Long time no see, Ms. Spencer."
Contrary to what the bodyguard might have expected, Diana didn't say much to the tombstone. She simply bowed deeply and remained silent.
Fate works in mysterious ways. The original Diana had given her body to her, allowing her to continue living.
Diana never thought she would have the chance to come back.
Thinking of this, she wiped the photo clean and revealed a helpless smile.
Diana stood up and tilted her head slightly. Next to Bianca's tombstone was her own grave.
Except there was no coffin inside, just some of her belongings.
Her original coffin had been buried in the Percy family cemetery by Charles.
And her face was on this tombstone, which looked rather eerie.
Diana sighed, took a flower from the bouquet originally placed in front of Bianca, and put it in front of her own tombstone.
As she stood up, she heard something fall to the ground, followed by a gasp.
"Ms. Spencer?"
Diana froze at the familiar address.
She slowly turned her head and saw Evelyn standing not far away. She looked more mature, wearing a black dress with her hair neatly tied back.
Her eyes were wide, her lips slightly parted, and a large bouquet of lilies lay at her feet.
Seeing Diana turn around, Evelyn almost stopped breathing, covering her mouth with her hands and trembling as she spoke,
"Ms. Spencer? Is it really you? Are you a person or a ghost?"
Evelyn's eyes were red, showing no fear of ghosts, only the excitement of a long-awaited reunion.
Diana hadn't planned to see her, but she hadn't expected to run into her here.
Instead of answering her question, Diana asked,
"Did you bring these flowers?"
"Yes, it's me. Whenever I miss Ms. Diana Spencer, I come to pay my respects and bring flowers for Ms. Bianca Spencer too."
Evelyn answered blankly, then shook her head and said excitedly,
"Ms. Spencer, am I seeing things? You're not dead? You're back!"
She hurried over, reaching out a hand to touch Diana but hesitating, leaving it suspended in mid-air.
The next moment, Diana opened her arms to her,
"Ghosts don't have bodies. You can try."
As she said this, her eyes also began to well up. After five years, they were finally reunited.
Evelyn's chin trembled, and she let out a sob before throwing herself into Diana's arms.
Feeling the warmth of her body, Evelyn couldn't hold back her tears, crying and mumbling,
"Ms. Spencer, why didn't you take me with you back then? When I heard you died, I couldn't believe it. We promised to face everything together. Why did you leave me behind?"
Evelyn felt both longing and resentment towards Diana.
She had thought Charles might change, and their relationship might improve.
But after Diana entrusted her to Isolde, the next news she heard about Diana was her death.
After everything they had been through, their bond had long surpassed that of employer and servant.
So, over the years, Evelyn would come to the cemetery to pay her respects whenever she had the chance.
Diana couldn't hold back her tears either. She patted Evelyn's back, comforting her,
"Things were too complicated back then. It's hard to explain in a few words. I'm sorry."
Hearing her apology, Evelyn immediately shook her head.
"No, Ms. Spencer, it's not your fault. It's my fault for not being there with you."
Not daring to imagine how Diana survived after jumping into the sea, Evelyn felt a dull pain in her heart. She pulled back to check Diana over, making sure she was unharmed before finally breathing a sigh of relief.
"As long as you're okay, Ms. Spencer. It's good that you're back."
The bodyguard, noticing the scene from a distance, hurried over, not knowing who Diana was talking to. He asked seriously,
"Mrs. Percy, are you alright? Who is this?"
The tender moment was interrupted. Diana took a deep breath, not hiding her impatience.
"This is an old friend of mine. Charles knows her. You can take a picture and show him. Now, can you give us some space?"
The bodyguard, hearing this, lowered his head and stepped back without further interruption.
Evelyn wiped her tears, her eyes full of confusion. She glanced at the bodyguard and then at Diana, whispering,
"Ms. Spencer, what's going on?"
"It's a long story."
Diana pressed her lips together, seeing the concern in Evelyn's eyes, and finally relented.
"I'll give you a brief explanation."
So, in front of the tombstone, she briefly told Evelyn how she had escaped and how she was now forced to stay in Evergreen City because of Charles.
But she kept Benjamin's existence a secret, as the fewer people who knew about him, the better.
Evelyn's expression was a mix of joy and worry upon hearing that Diana could stay.
She was happy to see Diana more often, but worried that this wasn't the life Diana wanted.
Lowering her voice, she whispered,
"Ms. Spencer, if you want to leave, I'll help you. I've saved a lot of money over the years, and it's all yours."
She had earned quite a bit helping Isolde with her children, and with the money Diana had left her, Evelyn was quite well-off. But she was shy and timid, preferring to stay with familiar people. Otherwise, she could have settled down somewhere she liked.
Now that Diana was back, she was willing to give her money to Diana to help her find freedom.
Diana was amused by her naive idea. Evelyn hadn't changed a bit over the years.
"No need. My issues with him can't be solved with money."
Even Diana couldn't say how her relationship with Charles would end.
"But thank you."
She sincerely thanked her, but Evelyn shook her head.
"Ms. Spencer, if I can't help you, what about Ms. Porter? Or Robert? They can help. Ms. Porter misses you a lot too."
If Evelyn had superpowers, she would probably choose to send Diana away immediately.
She couldn't bear to hear about Diana's death again.
As long as Diana was doing well abroad, it didn't matter if she came back or not.
"How is Isolde doing lately?"
Reminded of her, Diana thought of her old friend.
"She's doing well. Everyone is. But Ms. Porter has been very busy with work and hasn't been home for a week. But I'll call her and tell her you're back. She'll be thrilled."
Saying this, Evelyn took out her phone, her fingers trembling as she unlocked it.
The next moment, Diana stopped her.
"Wait."
Meeting Evelyn was a coincidence. Seeing Isolde might be an intrusion.
After all, it had been five years. Everyone had their own lives.
As she hesitated, Evelyn ignored her and turned away, making the call.
Waiting for it to connect, she looked at Diana with tear-filled eyes.
"Ms. Spencer, this time, you won't face it alone."
