Chapter 425 True Purpose

Before getting out of the car, Diana let her hair down and put on a face mask.

Benjamin pulled up his hoodie, making sure the hood covered his eyes.

"Do we really have to do this?" he asked, sounding a bit nervous.

With so many people at the company, Diana didn't want to expose him to everyone's stares.

"It's fine, we'll be okay once we're in the elevator," she reassured him, putting a mask with a cute cat mouth design on Benjamin as well.

"Please wait downstairs. Going up together would be too obvious," Diana said to the driver, holding Benjamin's hand.

The two men in black exchanged glances before one of them spoke up, "Ms. Wipere, you take Benjamin up first. We'll stay here and keep watch."

Diana smirked slightly. They were certainly thorough.

Luckily, she wasn't planning to run today, so she didn't mind. She nodded and led Benjamin out of the car.

Before they even reached the reception desk, Diana spotted Nolan standing at the entrance, checking his watch and looking around as if waiting for someone.

Benjamin quickly let go of Diana's hand and ran over with his short legs. "Mr. Smith, we're here."

Diana and the child stood out in this setting, and with Nolan's special status, they were already drawing curious glances from passersby.

Nolan bent down to greet Benjamin, "Hey there, Mr. Percy is waiting for you upstairs. We'll take the private elevator to the CEO's office."

Benjamin's eyes widened in amazement. "Wow, a private elevator. That's so cool."

Diana, holding a lunchbox, walked over. "Thanks, Mr. Smith, please lead the way."

Although Diana knew the way, she had to pretend she didn't to avoid suspicion.

Nolan nodded and the three of them headed towards the elevator.

Once they were inside, the employees who had been pretending not to notice them started whispering among themselves.

"Who was that? A woman and a kid. Are they mother and son?"

"They were heading towards Mr. Percy's elevator, right? Could they be relatives of Mr. Percy?"

Someone speculated.

But another quickly refuted, "When have you ever seen Mr. Percy's relatives visit the company? I think it's more like..."

He trailed off, unable to find the right word.

Everyone knew Charles and Stella had broken up. If it were just a woman, they might guess she was his new girlfriend.

But a woman with a kid? Charles wouldn't date someone with a kid, would he?

"I think she might be Mr. Percy's old flame," another woman said seriously, drawing everyone's attention and curiosity.

"What old flame? Do you know something? Spill it!"

The woman cleared her throat. "You don't know? It's like one of those stories where a one-night stand results in a kid, and years later, she returns with the kid, and they go from enemies to lovers..."

Before she could finish, the others, who had been curious, now looked disappointed and started shushing her.

"You've been reading too many novels. That's impossible."

The girl chuckled, and the group quickly dismissed the conversation as a workday distraction.

The elevator dinged, signaling their arrival at the CEO's office.

Nolan stepped out first and gestured, "Just go straight ahead from here."

Outside the CEO's office were the assistants' and secretaries' desks. Diana and Benjamin had to pass by them to get inside.

Diana glanced around. Not much had changed in five years. Even the people were the same.

She spotted Claire, who was sitting at her desk, watching them.

'Who are they?' Claire wondered. They weren't servants or bodyguards, but a woman and a child?

Both were heavily disguised, so she couldn't see their faces.

She racked her brain but couldn't think of anyone who matched their description.

It wasn't until they entered the CEO's office that Claire snapped out of it and asked, "Nolan, who are they?"

Nolan returned to his desk and replied nonchalantly, "I don't know. I was just asked to show them the way."

The fewer people who knew their identities, the better. Especially since Claire was on Elise's side.

Seeing he didn't want to say more, Claire felt frustrated but didn't press further. She returned to her seat, keeping an eye on the CEO's office door, waiting for them to come out.

Inside the CEO's office, Charles sat behind his desk, wearing glasses that made him look more refined than usual.

Hearing the door, he moved his hand on the mouse, accidentally closing a webpage.

Benjamin's childish voice reached his ears, "Mr. Percy, we brought you lunch."

Charles looked up to see Diana and Benjamin standing at the door.

Benjamin took the lunchbox from Diana and quickly ran to the desk, placing it on top.

He then removed his mask, "Mr. Percy, here's your lunch."

He smiled, trying to be endearing.

Charles snapped out of it, took off his glasses, and rubbed his temples. "Don't put it there."

Such a cold tone.

Benjamin's excitement was doused like a bucket of cold water, and he immediately deflated.

Diana, used to this, stepped forward and moved the lunchbox to a side table.

She explained to Benjamin, "The desk is full of documents. If they get stained with oil, it'll look strange to the staff."

Benjamin pouted but nodded, seeing her point. He sat on the sofa, waiting obediently.

"Mr. Percy, aren't you going to eat? It'll get cold," he urged.

"In a bit. Let me finish this first," Charles replied, his tone still indifferent, though he did start typing faster.

Benjamin frowned, dissatisfied with his reaction. Did Charles think they were a bother?

He whispered to Diana, "Does he think we're a nuisance?"

Diana, accustomed to this, squeezed his fingers reassuringly. "It's okay. Let's wait."

So, the two of them sat on the sofa, staring at Charles.

Their gaze was hard to ignore.

After five minutes, Charles couldn't take it anymore. He stopped what he was doing and looked back at them.

Benjamin's eyes lit up, and he waved, "Mr. Percy, come eat."

This time, Charles didn't refuse. He stretched his stiff neck and walked over to sit across from them.

The lunchbox, prepared by Jacob, had a cartoon design, likely because of Benjamin. Holding it, Charles felt a sense of incongruity.

He suddenly asked, "Have you eaten?"

Benjamin nodded, "Yes, we have."

The conversation was awkward, but it was about to get worse.

Since both mother and son had already eaten, they just watched Charles eat.

Their big, bright eyes were fixed on him, unblinking. Charles paused, feeling like an animal on display at the zoo.
