Chapter 322 Jealousy

Just as Charles was about to give up, Diana spoke up, her lips curling slightly.

"If you wanna stay, then stay."

Her expression was indifferent as she turned and headed to the bathroom to wash off the antiseptic spray on her hands.

Warm water flowed over her hands, and Diana's thoughts began to wander.

She had just considered that if Clara worked here, she might have a key to the room.

Charles' claim about a bad guy might just be an excuse to stay, but Diana knew someone was indeed watching her.

If Clara came in at night, she couldn't guarantee she would wake up as quickly as she did earlier.

And since Charles had already said he would sleep on the couch, she might as well let him.

When she came out of the bathroom, Charles was still sitting on the couch, clearly still processing everything.

Diana tilted her head slightly, dried her hands, and said, "I'm going to bed. Do whatever you want."

With that, she walked to the bed, pulled back the covers, and prepared to get in.

As if remembering something, Diana paused, walked around to the other side of the bed, and pulled out a blanket.

She placed the blanket on the couch where Charles was sitting and emphasized, "You can use this to cover yourself while you sleep on the couch."

Charles' eyes followed her movements, recognizing the cartoon-patterned blanket as one from home.

His heart warmed; she still cared about him.

"Alright, you sleep. Goodnight."

Diana didn't respond, just nodded and got into bed.

The room's lights were still on, and she couldn't sleep, keeping her eyes on Charles to prevent him from doing anything inappropriate.

Fortunately, he only took off his jacket and went to take a shower.

Listening to the sound of the water, Diana felt drowsy but forced herself to stay awake until he was fully settled on the couch.

She didn't know how long it took, but eventually, she fell asleep.

Charles had just finished his shower and realized he didn't have any clothes here.

Frowning, he wrapped a towel around himself and came out of the bathroom, saying, "I don't have any clothes here."

His voice was neither loud nor soft, but clear. Yet, no one responded after a while.

"Diana?" Charles called out tentatively, still getting no response.

When he walked closer, he saw that Diana was already asleep.

Her eyes were closed, her pink lips slightly parted, and her long eyelashes cast shadows on her cheeks like a butterfly about to take flight.

He quieted down, reached up, and turned off the light.

The room plunged into darkness, and in the night, Charles bent down and planted a kiss on her lips, his voice low and husky, "Goodnight."

In the early morning, the crew's quarters were cramped and filled with an unknown stench and the sound of snoring.

Clara slept in the middle bunk, unfortunately sandwiched between two people with terrible sleeping habits, their snores like tractors on a country road.

She had just returned from outside, the noise of the door waking one of her roommates.

Seeing it was Clara, the roommate sighed impatiently and turned over to continue sleeping.

Clara's face was dark as she pulled out her bag from the corner.

The sound of the zipper was particularly loud in the dark room, but she didn't care, opening it and placing the dagger she had hidden inside.

Her movements were so loud that several people woke up.

One couldn't help but curse, "Can you be quiet? You don't work during the day, but you're all lively at night. Are you a rat?"

Clara paused but ignored the anger, forcefully zipping up the bag.

Her movements getting into bed were also loud, clearly intentional.

"Are you doing this on purpose? I say a few words, and you get all worked up?" Her upper bunkmate couldn't help but sit up, raising her voice.

Clara clenched her fists, the malice in her eyes clear to the person on the opposite bed.

Before the two could start arguing, another roommate quickly spoke to diffuse the situation.

"Alright, alright, it's late. Let's get some sleep. We have work tomorrow, and if we keep arguing, no one will be able to sleep."

She continued, "Clara, are you in a bad mood? I heard you twisted your ankle today. Get some rest, and let's all take a step back."

Her words were smooth, and the girl in the upper bunk calmed down, accepting her bad luck.

The room fell silent again, but Clara couldn't sleep.

Half a month ago, Claire had told her that Diana had been in a car accident.

Originally, she had planned to continue getting information about Diana through Tessa, whom she had bribed at The Percy Mansion.

But Tessa had been kicked out.

Clara had gone to great lengths to find out that Diana had a miscarriage.

She had been overjoyed; it was perfect. Diana's only leverage was gone!

Clara had waited at home, expecting Charles to kick Diana out so she could "welcome" her.

But half a month had passed, and instead of Diana being thrown out, she saw Diana and Charles attending Billy's engagement party together.

Was the world going crazy? Billy was clearly in love with Diana, and Charles hated him. How could they be there to congratulate him?

But after analyzing it with Claire, they quickly realized that Charles must have fallen for Diana.

That's why he kept her by his side even after her miscarriage.

She had seen them holding hands and watching fireworks together today, and the sight had shocked her so much she fell.

Though it wasn't serious, the sight of them together was a heavy blow to her heart.

Why? What did she have?

Clara couldn't understand what charm Diana had after the divorce that made so many men flock to her.

In contrast, her own life was getting worse.

Since Nathan went to prison, all their assets had been sold off.

Clara and Mia had to live in a shabby apartment, dirty and crowded. She couldn't even afford a whole room, having to share with others.

Her former friends avoided her like the plague.

She couldn't find a job because once employers saw her history and knew she had been kicked out of the Percy Group, they wouldn't hire her.

Clara had to do simple manual labor.

Before boarding the ship, she worked at a coffee shop, standing for ten hours a day, earning less in a month than she used to spend on a pair of shoes.

The stark contrast nearly drove her to collapse, but seeing Diana living better than her had twisted her mind completely.

Claire had told her about Diana boarding the ship, and despite Mia's objections, she had quit her job at the coffee shop.

This was her only chance to destroy Diana.

If she missed this opportunity, once Diana returned to The Percy Mansion, she would never get close to her again.

Though Mia didn't support her, Claire did.

Claire had even given her money to bribe the ship's staff.

This job was something she had begged for.

She had figured out Diana's room but found Bronte guarding her.

She had to wait in the shadows for Bronte to leave.

Once Bronte was gone, she could sneak in and scar Diana's face.

Clara believed that Diana's only asset that made men pity her was her face.

'Destroying her face will ensure Diana is abandoned, and no one will compete with me anymore.'

The thought made Clara tremble with excitement.
