Chapter 333 Coma
Billy broke free from the security guards and rushed out of the cabin. The moment he saw the body, he froze.
Tears streamed down his face as he clenched his fists and, with a choked voice, demanded, "Are you happy now?"
"Two years ago, Diana married you. But you never treated her well. Now you're divorced, and you still wouldn't leave her alone. Because of you, she lost her child and now her life! Why wasn't it you who died?"
Charles staggered, his eyes bloodshot, as a metallic taste rose in his throat.
Without any warning, he coughed up a mouthful of blood and then everything went black as he lost consciousness.
Nolan, who had been chasing from behind, saw this and cried out in alarm, "Mr. Percy!"
In the hospital.
Jacob, looking haggard, sighed deeply as he gazed at the still-unconscious Charles on the bed.
Outside the door, Nolan knocked twice before entering.
Seeing Charles still on the hospital bed, he spoke softly, "Jacob, Mr. Percy still hasn't woken up?"
Jacob nodded, his face full of worry.
Charles had been unconscious for three days.
The doctors had examined him thoroughly; physically, he was fine, and all his vital signs were normal. Yet, he just wouldn't wake up.
The doctors speculated that his subconscious might be avoiding something, which was why he was unwilling to regain consciousness.
Meanwhile, as Charles lay in the hospital bed, rumors were spreading outside.
Some said that Charles was gravely ill and that the Percy Group was about to change hands.
Even the Percy Group's stock had been affected.
Everyone in the company was on edge, and Nolan was doing his best to keep things under control.
The reason he came today was because the shareholders were demanding a meeting.
If Charles couldn't attend, then Zachary, who was abroad, would have to return to take his place.
But with Charles still unconscious, it was impossible for him to be there.
It was only then that Nolan realized just how many people harbored animosity towards Charles, eagerly waiting for his downfall so they could divide his assets.
"If Mr. Percy can't attend today's shareholders' meeting, those people will definitely push for Zachary to come back."
Nolan's thin lips moved slightly as he looked at Charles on the hospital bed, his eyes filled with a sense of gloom.
Jacob, upon hearing this, became furious. "What are these people doing? Mr. Percy is lying here right now; how can he possibly attend? During his illness, not a single one of them came to see him! And now this!"
"Forcing him to step down, huh? Those ungrateful bastards! After all Mrs. Percy did for them back in the day! Mr. Percy's only been unconscious for three days, and they're already eager to burn their bridges! Bastards!"
He cursed vehemently, while Nolan stood by, lips pressed together, saying nothing.
Right now, the most important thing was for Charles to wake up.
"When is the shareholders' meeting?"
As the two were at their wits' end, a low, hoarse voice came from beside them.
Charles had woken up.
"Mr. Percy! You're awake!"
Jacob exclaimed in surprise and quickly went out to call the doctor.
Nolan stepped forward to help Charles sit up, his expression worried.
"Mr. Percy, are you alright?"
Charles leaned back against the bed, silently taking a couple of sips of water.
"Still alive. You mentioned the shareholders' meeting? Those people are causing trouble again?"
Nolan silently nodded. It wasn't just trouble; it was utter chaos.
Seeing this, Charles let out a cold snort.
"Tell them I'll attend the shareholders' meeting on time. It's about time we sorted some things out."
At this moment, Jacob entered with the doctor.
Seeing that Charles was awake, the doctor quickly stepped forward and conducted a brief examination before speaking,"It's good that you're awake, but since you've been unconscious for so long, it's best to stay in the hospital for observation and undergo a thorough check-up."
Charles looked up, as if just realizing the situation, and asked, "How long was I out?"
"Three days," the doctor replied bluntly.
Charles was taken aback. Three days? It felt like he had been trapped in a never-ending nightmare.
One moment he was a child in his mother's warm embrace, the next, a truck came out of nowhere, and there was blood everywhere. His mother died instantly.
Then he was on a ship, kissing Diana one moment, and the next, she was cold and lifeless in his arms.
He wanted to wake up, but the nightmares held him tight, making it impossible to move.
Seeing Charles' pale face and lost expression, Jacob couldn't help but say, "Mr. Percy, since you're awake, there's no rush for the shareholders' meeting. You should rest first."
Charles clutched his chest, feeling an emptiness that couldn't be filled.
After a long pause, he hoarsely asked, "Where is she?"
He was, of course, referring to Diana. She was dead.
Jacob met Charles' gaze but couldn't bring himself to say it.
Seeing no response, Charles frowned and turned to Nolan, "You tell me."
Nolan hesitated for a moment before speaking, "Ms. Spencer was buried yesterday."
"Who buried her?" Charles' emotions suddenly erupted.
He ripped out the IV in his hand, causing blood to gush from the back of his hand.
The doctor quickly pressed down on his hand, urgently saying, "Don't say anything to upset him! Everyone out! Let him calm down!"
Charles pushed the doctor away, gasping and shouting, "Come back! Explain it clearly!"
Nolan knew Charles' personality; he wouldn't stop until he got what he wanted.
Besides, this wasn't a secret. Charles would find out sooner or later.
To avoid prolonged pain, Nolan explained, "Ms. Spencer's lawyer arranged the funeral. He was a friend of her mother's. All of Ms. Spencer's friends attended the funeral. Her tombstone is next to her mother's. If Ms. Spencer can see from heaven, she will be at peace."
'At peace? At peace with what? She may be at peace, but she left me, a living person, to suffer alone in this world! Diana, you selfish woman! Why did you have to die like that?' Charles thought bitterly.
Nolan glanced at Charles and softly asked, "Mr. Percy, the shareholders' meeting starts in three hours. Should we go to the company or visit Ms. Spencer's tombstone?"
His eyes were intense, seemingly giving Charles a choice, but he really wanted him to go to the company.
After all, the dead couldn't come back to life, but without Charles, the company would be in real trouble.
Sure enough, after he spoke, Charles calmed down, his eyes darkening, "To the company."
A week later, Evergreen City welcomed the New Year. The streets were peaceful, decorated with bright red ornaments.
But the Percy Group's executives were on edge, with no festive atmosphere.
In the CEO's office, Eugene lounged on the sofa, his eyes unusually excited, "Charles, you really have guts."
"You handed over evidence of those shareholders' crimes to the police? I didn't know you were such a civic-minded person."
Just yesterday, four Percy Group shareholders were found guilty of embezzling company funds and accepting bribes.
The evidence was so overwhelming that the authorities quickly arrested them. The speed was so fast that they didn't even have time to react.
Normally, key figures like these shareholders were cunning and wouldn't leave evidence easily.
But someone had reported them, and everyone was guessing who it was.
Eugene knew it was Charles' doing, especially since some of the evidence came from the Bailey family.
It was a risky move, but it paid off.
Now, the remaining shareholders would have to keep a low profile.
