Chapter 155 See You Again at Night

Lyle turned to Eugene, who was just chilling, and said, "You're still young now, but when you get to..."

Before Lyle could start his lecture, Eugene quickly slapped his hand over Lyle's mouth.

"Seriously, Lyle? You sound like my dad! I get enough of this at home. Why are you bugging me about marriage and kids even when we're out drinking?"

Lyle couldn't help but laugh at Eugene's scrunched-up face. He gently moved Eugene's hand away. "Alright, alright, I'll stop. Let's just drink."

Charles stayed quiet, lost in his own thoughts.

After the drinking session, Charles had downed at least half a bottle of red wine.

Nolan was driving, heading slowly towards The Percy Mansion.

It was already ten at night, and the wind was getting chilly.

But Charles rolled down the window, letting the wind hit his face.

After a while, he suddenly said, "Go to Grace General Hospital."

Nolan was a bit surprised and glanced at the rearview mirror. "Mr. Percy, are you going to see Ms. Spencer?"

They had a big fight today, and usually, Charles would be punishing Diana.

But today was different; Diana hadn't done anything wrong, and Charles had lost his temper.

Nolan wondered if Charles was going to apologize.

The thought made Nolan shiver. He couldn't imagine the proud Charles apologizing to anyone.

He had followed Charles for years and had never seen him back down.

"Nolan, you're talking too much." Charles's eyes darkened as he spoke slowly.

Nolan realized his mistake and quickly said, "Sorry, Mr. Percy."

Then he changed direction and headed towards Grace General Hospital.

Forty minutes later, they arrived at the hospital and stopped at the entrance of the inpatient department.

Charles looked up; the lights in the VIP room on the top floor were already off.

At this time, the nightlife in Evergreen City was just starting. How could she be asleep so early?

This was the first time Charles had come over at night.

Brenda was organizing Diana's recent health reports and adjusting her new diet plan.

When she looked up and saw Charles, she was momentarily stunned. "Mr. Percy?"

"Yeah." Charles glanced at the documents in her hand, frowning slightly.

Brenda explained, "These are from before. After some adjustments, Ms. Spencer's health has improved a lot."

"Is she asleep?" Charles glanced towards the dark ward.

Brenda nodded. "Ms. Spencer's pregnancy symptoms aren't severe, but she's been really sleepy. She usually falls asleep around eight or nine at night and can sleep until noon the next day."

Charles had never paid attention to pregnancy stuff, and Brenda's explanation surprised him.

So Diana could sleep that much.

"How was she when she came back today?"

Brenda's expression changed slightly. It seemed Diana's bad mood was related to him.

So Brenda added some details, "Ms. Spencer begged me all morning to let her go out. She was really happy when I agreed. But for some reason, when she came back in the evening, her eyes were red, and she ate less than usual. She didn't respond when I talked to her. I was planning to ask Mr. Smith what happened, and then you showed up, Mr. Percy."

As she spoke, Brenda glanced at Nolan.

Nolan shivered under her gaze.

What? Why was he being dragged into this again?

After hearing Brenda's words, Charles fell silent.

If she was unhappy, why didn't she tell him at the time?

She cried secretly on the way, but he couldn't see it.

In his mind, he pictured Diana's stubborn and proud face again.

Charles felt a sharp pain in his heart.

The pacifier box in his pocket was almost crushed from his grip.

Seeing his state, Brenda softly called out, "Mr. Percy? Mr. Percy, are you okay?"

Charles's eyelashes trembled slightly, and he looked up, saying, "I'll go in and check on her."

Brenda nodded and reminded him, "Mr. Percy, please be gentle and don't wake her up."

He slowly opened the door to the ward.

For the first time, Charles was very careful with his movements, afraid of waking Diana.

It had been many days since he last came, and the room seemed to have been rearranged.

A warm yellow mushroom-shaped night light hung on the wall, keeping the room from falling into complete darkness.

There were also two funny-looking stuffed animals at Diana's bedside.

By the dim night light, Charles could see her face clearly.

Even in her sleep, Diana's brows were slightly furrowed, as if she was having a nightmare.

Brenda's words were half true. Diana indeed didn't eat much when she came back.

Partly because she was angry with Charles, and partly because she had eaten a lot outside.

After being out all day, she was indeed very tired, so she went to bed early.

Charles stood by the bed for a long time, his fingers gently touching her brow.

With a slight pressure, the furrowed brows smoothed out.

As her brows relaxed, Diana's sleeping face looked more peaceful and gentle, much cuter than during the day.

Charles's Adam's apple moved, and he couldn't help but look at her for a while longer.

Ten minutes later, he took out the pacifier and socks from his pocket and placed them on Diana's bedside table.

Then he turned and left the ward.

Outside the ward, Brenda was chatting with Nolan, trying to find out why Diana was unhappy.

As a woman, she understood Diana very well.

Charles suddenly came out, nearly causing Brenda to jump. "Mr. Percy."

"I'm leaving. Take good care of her," Charles said.

Nolan quickly followed Charles's steps.

Behind them, Brenda suddenly spoke, "Mr. Percy."

Charles turned his head, asking, "What is it?"

"Well, the day after tomorrow is Ms. Spencer's prenatal checkup. She's three months pregnant, and you can already hear the fetal heartbeat. Do you have time to come?"

Brenda carefully chose her words. She had finally found an opportunity to tell him; now it was up to Charles to agree.

"Okay, send me the specific time then." Charles almost didn't hesitate and immediately agreed to Brenda's request.

After they left, Brenda felt quite pleased with herself.

She had worked in the obstetrics and gynecology department for so long and had seen many couples reconcile because of their children.

These days, Brenda and Diana had gotten along very well. She just didn't know what had happened between Diana and Charles to make them so resentful of each other.

Now, Brenda hoped that this child could help Diana and Charles reconcile quickly.

The next day, when Diana woke up, she saw the pacifier and socks on the bedside table.

Yesterday, when she and Evelyn were organizing the things they bought, Evelyn was a bit sad when she heard that the pacifier was gone.

Now that the pacifier was back, it should have been a good thing.

But remembering that Charles had taken it away before, she felt particularly annoyed.

It was like a phone that had fallen into the toilet.

"Dr. Ramos, did Charles ask you to put this here?" Diana asked.

Brenda's eyes flickered with a quick idea, and she continued with her fabrications. "No, Mr. Percy came to see you in person last night. But you were asleep, so he didn't wake you. He left the things here and even said sorry."

Diana listened to her words, her eyes narrowing.

The next second, Diana mercilessly exposed her lie, "Charles apologized to me? No way! Dr. Ramos, stop making excuses for him. I'm not falling for it."

Brenda awkwardly scratched her head. It worked well last night. Why didn't it work with Diana?
