Chapter 283 Accompany and Care

Despite her complaints, when Diana woke up, Brenda was the first to arrive at her hospital room.

Next to her, Charles sat stiffly, his face cold and expressionless.

Brenda didn't mind. She smiled warmly and asked about Diana's condition.

Diana felt much better, though she was very hungry. But there was something more pressing on her mind.

"How's my baby?"

"The baby's fine."

Before Brenda could answer, Charles jumped in.

Diana ignored him and looked at Brenda, trusting her more as the doctor.

"The baby is fine. The contractions were caused by external stress, which led to some bleeding. I've already explained the precautions. Ms. Spencer, just focus on resting, eating well, and staying happy."

Brenda tried to keep the explanation clinical to avoid embarrassing Diana.

Diana sighed in relief and nodded at Brenda. "Okay."

With that settled, Brenda didn't linger. The intense gaze from behind her was hard to ignore, almost burning a hole through her.

After Brenda left, Diana lay in bed with her eyes open.

She was very hungry, but there was no one else in the room except Charles. Asking him for food was out of the question; she'd rather starve.

"Eat something."

There was a rustling sound beside her, followed by the aroma of food.

The servants at The Percy Mansion had brought it while Diana was asleep, keeping it warm in a thermal container.

Diana turned her head away, not wanting to acknowledge him, but her stomach growled loudly.

Annoyed, she turned over, accidentally pulling on the IV in her hand, causing her to yelp in pain.

Charles put down what he was holding and frowned, gently pressing her back onto the bed.

Once he was sure the IV was still in place, he relaxed a bit.

He felt awkward. This situation was partly his fault, but Diana had a role in it too.

If she hadn't lied to him and met with Billy, things wouldn't have escalated to this point.

Guilt and resentment intertwined within him. He couldn't be angry with Diana, but he also couldn't bring himself to apologize, leaving him feeling stifled.

Without a word, he raised the head of the bed, helping Diana sit up.

After that, he sat back down and picked up the bowl of oatmeal.

He scooped a spoonful and brought it to Diana's lips. "Eat."

Diana pursed her lips and turned away, her tone harsh. "I can eat by myself!"

She was indeed very hungry. Starving herself out of spite would be foolish.

But the idea of being fed by him made her feel disgusted. It was so frustrating!

Charles' expression shifted slightly, but he persisted.

"Your right hand has an IV. It's inconvenient for you to eat. Be good and open your mouth."

They stared each other down for a while before Diana gave in.

She had no choice. Since yesterday, all she had eaten were a few samples at the food festival, which she had thrown up.

The oatmeal smelled delicious, with bits of vegetables she recognized as Evelyn's cooking.

It would be a shame to waste such good food.

So she opened her mouth and awkwardly took a bite.

The oatmeal had cooled down, so it didn't irritate the cuts on her lips. It tasted quite good.

For the second bite, she commanded, "I want it cooler. My mouth hurts."

Charles paused, looking at her.

Her lips were still swollen from yesterday. When she opened her mouth, her tongue peeked out slightly, looking soft.

His eyes darkened, and he looked away. He blew on the oatmeal before offering it to her again.

This time, Diana was less resistant. She opened her mouth and ate, her eyes fixed on the bowl, waiting for more.

For once, the atmosphere between them was peaceful.

It took half an hour to finish the bowl of oatmeal, and Diana's stomach finally felt a bit better.

Charles took a napkin and dabbed at her lips before handing her some water.

"Drink some. You lost a lot of fluids yesterday and cried a lot."

No wonder Brenda had suggested he stay away from Diana as much as possible.

Diana had been in a better mood after eating, but his comment reignited her anger.

She grabbed a pillow and threw it at his face.

"You have the nerve to say that? Whose fault is it?"

The pillow hit Charles squarely, spilling some of the water on him.

He frowned, his veins throbbing, but just as Diana thought he might explode, he stepped closer and brought the water to her lips, speaking in a low voice only they could hear.

"I'm sorry. It's all my fault. I'll be more careful next time."

The cup had a straw, and Diana instinctively took a sip. The cool water soothed her dry mouth, making her feel refreshed.

She drank half the cup before resuming her tirade.

Charles' face was bandaged, and now, with Diana clutching his collar and scolding him, he looked rather pitiful.

An hour earlier, he had called Eugene for advice.

"What do you do when you've made a woman angry?"

Eugene quickly realized Charles was starting to understand relationships and knew that women needed to be comforted when upset.

He shared his own experiences and sent Charles some tips he found online.

The main points were to apologize sincerely and use money to win her over.

Charles thought for a moment and decided to admit he had been too rough in bed and hadn't considered Diana's feelings.

But he wouldn't compromise on anything else.

His unresponsive demeanor made Diana feel like she was punching into thin air, her anger finding no outlet.

After a while, she let go of his collar and pushed him away.

"Get Evelyn here. I don't want to see you."

Charles' calm expression finally showed a hint of emotion. He spoke up, "I'll stay with you."

"You? What about the Percy Group? Or do you think you can take care of me? The great Mr. Percy, playing nurse?"

Diana's tone was mocking. Taking care of a patient involved more than just bringing food and water.

"The company has Nolan, and with my face like this, I can't go out and be seen. It would affect the company."

He was being honest.

News of Charles getting into a fight would cause a huge stir.

Diana frowned. The smell of disinfectant and the stark white of the hospital made her uncomfortable.

When she was hospitalized before, Evelyn had been with her. Now, being stuck with Charles? She'd rather die.

"I don't want to stay here with you. If Evelyn doesn't come, I'm leaving the hospital."

Her words made Charles' expression darken.

He leaned in, pointing to the wound on his face.

"Who do you want to be with? This injury is related to you. You need to take responsibility."

What a heavy accusation. He got into a fight, and it was her fault?

Diana closed her eyes, not buying it.

"Do you have to bring him up? Didn't you two fight each other? Should I be responsible for him too?"

She meant it sarcastically, but Charles became anxious, lowering his voice in a threat. "Don't you dare!"

This was the Percy family's private hospital, secure but not immune to prying eyes. Billy could show up at any moment.

A strong sense of danger washed over Charles. He stood up and said, "If you don't want to stay in the hospital, then let's go home."
