Chapter 143 Claire Starts Her Job

Claire chuckled and waved her hand. "Just kidding, don't be so nervous. I just got here, and I noticed there aren't many people on this floor."

Nolan nodded. "Yes, Mr. Percy likes it quiet. Ms. Murphy, let me show you around."

Charles didn't like crowds. On this entire floor of the CEO's office, besides Charles, there were only Nolan and Abigail.

At the moment, Abigail was nowhere to be seen, so Nolan had to show Claire around.

After that, Nolan led Claire over to Clara's old desk.

Since Clara had been banned from returning to the Percy Group, her spot had been left empty.

Charles had even tossed out all her stuff.

Claire's timing couldn't have been better.

Having scoped out the workstation yesterday, Claire casually dropped her bag on the desk.

Noticing Claire's calm vibe, Nolan extended a hand and said, "Ms. Murphy, this will be your desk from now on. The person next to you is Abigail, another one of Mr. Percy's secretaries. She's super nice, so feel free to ask her if you need anything."

Claire glanced around. This spot wasn't far from the CEO's office; she could see the door with just a quick look.

In terms of location, Nolan's desk was the closest to the CEO's office.

Claire gave a small smile. "Nolan, just call me Claire. We're colleagues now, no need to be so formal."

Nolan's jaw tightened, his expression unchanged, but he thought to himself, 'Ms. Murphy, you're a friend of Mr. Percy, how could I dare to be informal with you?'

"Ms. Murphy, I'm a bit set in my ways and might need some time to get used to this. Please bear with me."

Claire didn't push it and asked, "So Nolan, as Mr. Percy's secretary, what do I need to do?"

Nolan was silent for a moment, thinking about Clara's old tasks.

Most of it was just tagging along with Charles on outings, and the rest was helping Abigail with some work.

But Claire had said yesterday that she came to the Percy Group to work seriously. Giving her a fluff job might be a bit disrespectful.

Nolan frowned slightly, thought for a moment, and made a big decision. "Abigail will hand over your work to you. The rest will be arranged by Mr. Percy."

Claire felt a bit let down. She had hoped that being Charles' secretary would bring her closer to him. But now it seemed she was even lower on the totem pole than Nolan.

Just then, Abigail came over with some documents and saw Nolan and Claire.

She looked a bit surprised. Since Clara left, she had been working solo for a while and wasn't used to seeing new faces. "Nolan, is this a new colleague?"

Hearing Abigail's voice, Claire's gaze fell on her.

Objectively speaking, Abigail was very pretty.

Charles not only looked at abilities when picking people but also paid a lot of attention to looks.

The close employees around him, including the now-gone Clara, were all good-looking.

Claire didn't know this, and for a moment, she became wary of Abigail.

But Claire didn't show it and kept a gentle smile.

"Yes, this is Claire. You two will be colleagues from now on. Share half of your work with her." Nolan briefly introduced them.

Abigail, who had been calm, almost jumped up in excitement when she heard that Claire was here to share her workload.

Indeed, Abigail had been doing the work of at least three people alone.

And Clara, who was also a secretary, mostly just needed to be a decoration.

Looking at the very approachable Claire in front of her, Abigail excitedly grabbed Claire's hands and shook them up and down. "Hello, Claire, if you have any questions, feel free to ask me."

Claire was a bit overwhelmed by her enthusiasm. She had thought that Abigail, sitting in this position, wouldn't be simple. But why was this different from what she imagined?

Before Claire could react, Abigail quickly let go of her hand and moved a third of the documents on her desk to Claire's. "Claire, these are the documents you need to review today. Try to go through some of them, and we'll take it slow."

Claire was taken aback, thinking, 'What? We're diving into work already?'

Seeing that the two were getting along, Nolan politely said, "Ms. Murphy, get settled in. If you have any questions, feel free to ask."

With that, Nolan turned to leave.

But halfway through, he seemed to remember something and added, "Ms. Murphy, Mr. Percy doesn't like being disturbed. If it's not important, don't go to him."

Seeing Claire nod obediently, Nolan thought she understood and left at ease.

Claire wasn't an idiot. Now that she was in the company, there was no need to always seek Charles' attention.

The most important thing now was Diana and her unborn child.

Thinking of this, Claire smiled. "Abigail, when does Mr. Percy usually get off work?"

Abigail didn't expect Claire to ask this. After thinking for a moment, she replied, "Mr. Percy doesn't have a fixed time to get off work, but he's a workaholic and often sleeps at the company."

Claire pretended to be surprised and widened her eyes. "So hardworking? Then Mr. Percy's wife must be alone at home?"

"Mr. Percy has been divorced for a long time, so there's no need to worry about that," Abigail said nonchalantly while typing on the keyboard, as this wasn't a secret in the company.

"Mr. Percy is such an excellent man, and he got divorced. His ex-wife must be very outstanding," Claire added.

Hearing this, Abigail frowned slightly.

Although Abigail wasn't very good at socializing, her intuition told her that Claire might be interested in Charles.

The last person who had the same idea as Claire, Clara, had already been dealt with. Who knew how long Claire could last?

Thinking of this, Abigail sighed, not understanding those who would fall for Charles.

For Abigail, her special feelings for Charles were probably just a hatred for the leader's oppression.

"I don't know much about Mr. Percy's private affairs. Nolan knows a lot more than I do," Abigail said while looking through the documents.

Sensing that Abigail didn't want to talk, Claire wisely kept quiet.

After all, she had plenty of time. There was nothing she couldn't find out.

Now that she was in the company, she had to at least make an effort at work.

So Claire started looking at the documents like Abigail.

The work wasn't difficult but required attention and patience.

Fortunately, Claire had helped manage the family business before, so reading documents wasn't too stressful.

But for every document she reviewed, Abigail added another one.

After a few cycles, Claire's eyes were filled with anger. "Abigail, what are you doing?"

Abigail laughed awkwardly. "Technically, I shouldn't give you so much work on your first day. But Claire, I feel you're very capable. So I gave you half."

With that, Abigail quickly added another stack to her desk.

Claire couldn't refuse. Abigail's compliment had put her on a pedestal. If she said she couldn't do it now, wouldn't that be denying her own ability?

Claire gritted her teeth, suddenly regretting choosing this job.

She just wanted to be a decoration, not expected to do so much work now.

And the culprit, Nolan, was at his workstation, marveling at his perfect work arrangement.

This way, his work was handed to Abigail. Abigail then passed it to Claire, greatly improving work efficiency. It also satisfied Claire's desire to work seriously.
