Chapter 213 I Am the Owner
Seeing her ignore him again and walk out of the bushes with the dog in her arms, Charles's face turned cold. "Diana, why did you bring this filthy thing here?"
The little stray dog was dirty and muddy, and Diana's white cotton coat got a large stain from holding it.
It wasn't just that he found it dirty; he was more concerned because Diana was pregnant. If the dog had any diseases, it would be a big problem if she got infected.
"Charles, can you stop being so ruthless? This isn't some filthy thing; it's a living being. And you don't have to hold it, so why do you care?" Diana frowned and couldn't help but retort.
After spending so much time at Rainbow Orphanage, hadn't he learned any kindness from the children?
It was hard to imagine how such a ruthless person would be a father in the future.
Her eyes were filled with undisguised disgust, making Charles's heart clench and causing him to have difficulty breathing.
Noticing him silent, Diana walked past him with a cold face.
The puppy's voice was weak, and it needed to be warmed up quickly.
She almost ran back to the front yard, where the snowman's body was already built, only missing the facial features and arms.
Seeing her return, the children exclaimed in surprise. "Diana, you're back!"
Diana nodded and apologized to them, "Sorry, kids, I have something to do right now. I'll play with you later."
With that, she hurried back into the house, and Evelyn quickly followed.
As soon as she reached the entrance, Diana stopped. She took off her scarf and made a temporary nest for the puppy.
Evelyn looked puzzled, "Ms. Spencer, what are you..."
Seeing the puppy, her voice changed, "Oh, my god! A puppy! Where did it come from?"
Diana put her finger to her lips, signaling her to be quiet.
Evelyn immediately closed her mouth obediently.
There were still children outside, and if they saw the puppy, they would definitely make a fuss.
The puppy's breed was unrecognizable, its ears drooping against its head, and its eyes watery, looking somewhat pitiful.
Sensing that Diana meant no harm, it even stuck out its soft little tongue to lick her palm.
Diana smiled slightly and checked the puppy all over, finding no wounds.
It was probably too cold outside earlier, and now that it had been in the warm house for a while; the puppy wobbled as it tried to stand up.
Evelyn saw that Diana liked it but couldn't help but say, "Ms. Spencer, it's best for pregnant women not to be around cats and dogs. This puppy is pitiful. If it has any diseases, If it has any diseases, it wouldn't be good for you to get infected."
Diana gently pinched the puppy's ear, "It's okay. It's still so young, and it hasn't been long since it left its mother and started wandering. It can't infect me. It's too cold outside; it wouldn't survive."
Evelyn scratched her head and asked, "Ms. Spencer, are you going to adopt it?"
Diana paused for a moment and then shook her head.
"I found it at Rainbow Orphanage. I'll leave it with Ms. Hope. I'll cover the cost of dog supplies and give her extra for feeding."
She was destined to leave, and forming a bond with a dog only to abandon it would be too cruel.
"But..." Evelyn hesitated and said slowly, "Ms. Hope is allergic to dogs."
"What?" Diana looked up, her expression quite surprised.
Just then, Kennedy came out of the house. Seeing the two standing at the entrance, she was puzzled.
"Why aren't you coming in...!" Kennedy sneezed before she could finish her sentence.
Then she sneezed three more times in a row, leaving Diana stunned.
Evelyn looked helpless, as if to say, "See, I wasn't lying."
"What's going on? My nose is so itchy." Kennedy rubbed her nose, muttering.
Diana quickly stopped her from coming closer, "Ms. Hope, don't come over. I just picked up a puppy in the backyard. I was afraid it would freeze to death, so I brought it back. I didn't know you were allergic to dogs."
Hearing this, Kennedy's expression changed, and she quickly pulled a mask from the coffee table and put it on.
She actually liked dogs, but her allergy prevented her from getting too close. "I'm fine. There used to be an old dog hole in the backyard. It probably came in through there. It's so cold, and it's lucky to have met you."
Diana shook her head. It was the puppy's resilience that had kept it alive until now; she was just giving it a bit of warmth.
But now, what should they do with the puppy?
They were going back to The Percy Mansion in the afternoon, and Charles hated the dog and would definitely not agree to keep it.
But Kennedy was allergic to dogs. Where could they find a reliable adopter in such a short time?
Diana asked, "Ms. Hope, do you have any friends who want to adopt a puppy?"
Kennedy thought for a moment and shook her head, "No, they're all busy with their kids and don't have the energy to take care of a dog."
She paused for a moment and added, "Diana, if you like the dog, just take it back. If it gets caught by dog catchers in Sunset Hamlet, it won't survive."
Diana and Evelyn exchanged glances, both hesitant.
The entrance door opened, and Charles walked in.
Kennedy smiled, "Look, Mr. Percy is back. Just talk to him."
Hearing this, Evelyn quickly moved to Kennedy's side, not wanting to be in the way.
Diana turned her head to see Charles's gloomy face, clearly still upset from their earlier argument.
Their eyes met, and the atmosphere became tense.
The puppy, feeling better, nudged Diana's hand as if urging her.
Diana looked away, her tone hesitant, "Charles, can I take this puppy home?"
He let out a snort, clearly finding her plea amusing. "No, after all, someone said I'm ruthless and meddlesome."
Sensing the tension, Kennedy quickly tried to ease the situation, "Don't argue. It's just a dog. With the internet, we can quickly find it a home. If not, I'll take care of it..." She sneezed again before finishing her words.
She was clearly too allergic to be around the dog.
Evelyn quickly pulled her back to her room, leaving the living room to Diana and Charles.
"You saw it too, Ms. Hope is allergic to dogs. I won't keep it for long. Once we find a suitable owner, we'll give it away."
Diana's tone was sincere. She was living with Charles, and even rescuing a dog required his approval.
Seeing him remain silent, Diana continued, "I was too harsh earlier. Mr. Percy, I hope you, being so generous, can forgive..."
Before she could finish, Charles reached out and grabbed her chin.
His tone was cold, "Diana, do you remember you're pregnant? I said you can't touch dirty things. Don't you understand?"
Diana's eyes widened. He wasn't squeezing hard, but the feeling of being controlled was very unpleasant.
She added, "It's also a life."
Charles grinned, seemingly amused by her persistence, "I'm the master of The Percy Mansion. You don't have the right to make this decision."
