Chapter 263 Play?

Charles was nearly thrown from his seat by the sudden jolt, but he quickly grabbed onto the seat to steady himself.

He let out an impatient sigh.

How hard could it be to drive on a straight, smooth road?

The driver, gripping the steering wheel with a look of lingering fear, snapped out of it when he heard Charles and quickly apologized.

"Sorry, Mr. Percy. I didn't mean to. That bush over there is trimmed so weirdly—I thought it was a ghost or something. Scared the hell out of me."

A ghost? Charles turned to look out the window.

In the thick of the night, only the streetlights were on.

During the day, the rows of bushes looked no different from each other, but under the streetlights now, the one ahead looked particularly odd.

At first glance, it did resemble a person with a tilted head.

No wonder the driver got spooked.

He was silent for a moment, then quickly figured out the culprit. "I see. Drive on."

The driver nodded, feeling unlucky, muttering a few words before restarting the car.

It was already late. Jacob and a group of servants were discussing work matters when they saw Charles return. Jacob's face lit up.

"Mr. Percy, you're back! Are you hungry? I can have the chef prepare some food."

"No need." Charles's thin lips barely moved. He was so busy that even coming home for lunch was rare. If he skipped dinner too, his stomach would surely rebel.

"Who trimmed the bush at the entrance?"

Jacob wasn't surprised by the question and replied, "Ms. Spencer and the servants did it today. She had a lot of fun, but since she's a novice, the trimming is a bit rough."

Charles raised an eyebrow, surprised that Diana was happily working with the servants.

He had expected her to throw a fit and sulk for days.

Jacob noticed his thoughts and smiled slightly. "Ms. Spencer gets along well with the servants. Everyone says she's very pleasant now."

The old Diana was too meek. Even though she was "Mrs. Percy", she had no authority.

The servants treated her like a doormat, but the new Diana was neither humble nor arrogant. Even being confined here, she held her head high.

People are strange creatures. The kinder you are, the more they take advantage. But if you keep your distance, they praise you as unattainable, seeing the gap as normal.

Charles nodded slightly in response.

Her good behavior at home improved his mood considerably.

Maybe in a few days, he could find time to take her out.

He headed upstairs.

In the room, Diana was playing an online game with Evelyn, each controlled a character, using controllers to navigate the game.

It was Evelyn's first time with such a thing, and despite learning for a while, she was still a bit clumsy.

Whenever she was slow to react, the screen would display "Game Over."

After another mistake, Evelyn pouted and said, "Ms. Spencer, I don't want to play anymore. I keep dying. We've only reached the third level after all this time."

Diana laughed so hard she could barely stand. Evelyn's mistakes were always amusing.

Seeing her complain, Diana stopped laughing and comforted her. "It's okay. It's the process that matters. I find it fun. Want to try my character?"

Evelyn shook her head, not wanting to play anymore.

Just then, there was a knock at the door.

The two exchanged a glance, and Evelyn quickly went to open it.

Seeing Charles, Evelyn's face turned pale. She had lost track of time while playing and didn't expect Charles to come here right after getting home.

Evelyn quickly lowered her head, greeted him hastily, put down the controller, and left the room.

Diana's good mood soured at the sight.

She silently put away the game they had been playing, not bothering to initiate any conversation.

Charles moved closer, glancing at the scattered items on the floor.

He realized it was a gift from a college friend.

He had found it too childish and tossed it aside.

It seemed Jacob had brought it out for them to play with, making good use of it.

"Is it fun?" he asked casually, his voice indifferent.

Diana paused, then put the controller back in the box, replying, "Just passing the time."

"Want to play a round with me?"

"What?"

Diana was stunned. The heir to the Percy Group, willing to play such a childish game with her?

But she had been eyeing a duel game earlier, though Evelyn, being a novice, wasn't up for it.

Since he offered, Diana's playful side emerged.

Today, she'd show him what "true domination" meant.

She couldn't harm Charles in real life, but in the game, she could vent her frustrations.

"Sure, let's play this one." Diana smiled, handing Charles a controller.

They sat on the bed, one on each side, in rare harmony.

As a hacker, Diana was naturally adept at these games.

Charles, on the other hand, seemed a bit rusty.

His character jumped around, occasionally throwing punches and kicks.

Diana, with a mischievous streak, had chosen a cute, twin-tailed girl character for him.

Watching the tall Charles control this character, Diana stifled a laugh.

"How do you play this?" Charles turned to ask Diana.

Her hair was in a bun, and she wore a loose, yellow pajama set. The round neckline revealed her smooth earlobes and delicate collarbone from his angle.

A woman's beauty comes in many forms. When Diana dressed up, she exuded a cold, unapproachable aura.

But now, without makeup and dressed casually, she seemed soft and gentle, giving the illusion that she considered him one of her own.

"You run a huge company but can't handle a simple game?" Diana leaned in, her tone slightly disdainful.

But she still picked up his controller and started teaching him. "Push this forward to make the character run. This button is for..."

As she leaned closer, Charles could almost touch her hair. A faint sweet scent lingered around his nose.

His Adam's apple bobbed, his eyelashes fluttered, and his gaze fell on her chattering lips.

He wanted to kiss her!

"Okay, that's how you play. Want to try?" Diana finished explaining and handed the controller back. Their fingers brushed briefly, sending a tingle through him.

"Sure." Charles turned his attention back to the screen.

Diana nodded slightly, planning to let him get used to it before starting to smurf.

She set up a match against the computer for him.

But within a minute, Charles's character let out a whimper and lay flat on the ground.

The screen turned gray, displaying "Defeat."

Diana was incredulous. "Charles, is this even humanly possible?"

She pursed her lips and continued, "This is the easiest level. Forget it, you're worse than Evelyn. I'm done playing. Time for bed."

She put down the controller and started to leave.

The next second, Charles grabbed her wrist.
